On a recent trip we purchased quite a few sticker books to keep our toddler occupied, and I thought this was one of the best. In addition to having almost 30 reusable stickers, there was also a Dora story involved, adding some depth to the play. Children plaster stickers to the map, solve minor puzzles, dodge Swiper, and open a treasure chest as Dora and Boots dance with joy. Nicely done.

Grace Services book is not only an amzing account of an important period in modern Chinese history, it is also an important personal, first-hand account of how foreigners worked and lived in pre-liberated China. Set during the late Qing and early Repebulican period, the book tells the story of a family who goes to China committed to serving the Chinese people and how they stand strong in that commitment through wars, civil unrest, and personal tragedies. This book is a must for anyone interested in the pioneering spirit that led foreigners from around the world to settle and live amongst what most westerner at that time (stupidly) considered an "uncivilized" people. The book is made more vivid through detailed historical and personal footnotes added by Grace's son, the noted dipolomat and "China Expert" John S. Service. A wonderful contirubtion to history and a wonderful read!

In Tune With God: A User-Friendly Theology

This is a great book for those who enjoy the intellectual as well as spiritual side of Christianity. I have always enjoyed the "study" of my faith, and this book gives you lots to think about. Using examples from modern life, references to great Christian writers such as C.S. Lewis and Dietrich Bonhoffer, and a study of the scriptures, Dr. Inch delves into why we believe what we believe, and the solid foundation we have as Christians. You'll like this book if you enjoy lively discussion and thoughtful debate. With questions following each chapter, this book is excellent as a study on your own, or with a small group of friends.

The Japanese counterpart of Tom Thumb, Issumboshi, finds adventure. Great for teaching measurement through quality children's literature.

This is a wonderful book with a good message about the value of inner strength as opposed to external size. The pictures are great and the rhyme scheme throughout the story adds a lot. My 2nd grade students want me to read it again and again!

Memoirs of Extraordinary Popular Delusions -- a public domain edition [3.5 INCH DISKETTE]
Published in Diskette by B & R Samizdat Express (01 July, 1999)

EXTRAORDINARY POPULAR DELUSIONS has long been one of my favorite books, and I've shared it with so many other people that I find myself having to replace it every few years. Needless to say, this is expensive and inconvenient. I also like to use passages from the book in my teaching. There are two phrases from Dickens novels that are included in the "Popular Follies of Great Cities" chapter, and I like to point these out to my students. The first is "Walker!" which is the reply of the boy on the street to Scrooge's request that he buy the big goose in the butcher's window; the second is "Who are you?" which is used by Bentley Drummle to sneer at Pip in GREAT EXPECTATIONS. I used to use a hard to read photocopy from Mackay's book, but now I can select portions for class use and run them through my printer. I can even offer entire chapters (even, occasionally, the entire book on disk) to students who express more interest in learning about the remarkable "madness of crowds." I cannot say enough to thank whomever is responsible for this marvelous innovation! I recommend it without reservation to teachers and other eccentrics as a useful and user-friendly tool.

This is one of my favorite books! Wes Seeliger recounts, as only he can, experiences from his life in one or two page vignettes. He reflects on each experience with theological insight and application in a way that makes each memorable. His theology, while profound, is presented in a highly entertaining fashion, just as he does in his other work, Western Theology, another of my favorites.

Another much different book which I have used is "Statistics" by Freedman et. al. This is an elementary book and does not emphasize practical skills so much, but gives very good understanding of statistical principles and pitfalls. Even though elementary, some of our Ph.D. students could have benefited from a few of the insights.
