Amazon offers the lowest prices?
Amazon lists this book for over 100 dead presidents. The campus book stores in the area sell it for around 90 dead presidents. College book stores are not known for their great discount prices, so why does Amazon sell this book for so much?

Compleat Guide: How Firms Make & Provide Goods and Services
Studying for APICS CIRM (Certification in Integrated Resource Management), I have accumulated a shelf full of books about enterprise management. "Operations Management: A Value-Driven Approach" rises above all the others. It is large book, almost 1000 pages. It covers all the operations management bases (and all the acronyms), including just-in-time, total quality, demand and supply chain, inventory and materials including MRP and MRPII, planning and scheduling, and so forth. It is a well organized and clearly written textbook, with good examples and problems throughout.

The best, however, is this book's point of view: Delivering VALUE to customers and stakeholders is the raison d'etre for the enterprise. If it doesn't do this well - compared to customer expectations and the competition - it won't survive. Moreover, delivering value is dynamic. The enterprise must constantly improve and its processes, products and services, to respond to the constantly changing needs of its customers. This book brilliantly applies this value-delivery critera throughout, putting techniques and frameworks such as JIT and TQM in proper perspective. Published in 1996, this book is becoming a bit dated in this age of the World Wide Web and virtual marketplaces. (A suggestion: revise and expand the book to cover e-Commerce, including business-to-consumer and business-to-business, to maintain, in my opinion, it solid 5-star rating.) Still, "Operations Management" does a good job anticipating new technologies and marketplaces, and the fact that the enterprise must constantly respond to these changes.

This book is a classic. It deserves to be read by every serious student - and every practicing manager - of operations.

The Complete Guide to Barber Quarters
Published in Hardcover by D L R C Pr (1994)
Author: David Lawrence
Amazon base price: $44.95
Average review score:

An essential reference for US numismatists
David Lawrence has shared with us his experience as the leading dealer of Barber dimes, quarters, and half dollars (minted from 1892 to 1916). This volume, dealing only with the quarters, has plenty of photographs and diagrams showing what the non-Barber collector would consider trivia: mintmark positions, repunched date varieties, and die cracks. Mr. Lawrence also uses major coin grading services' population reports and 1994 prices to calculate rarity ratings and recommendations on which coins are undervalued. While the coin market may change, his research belongs on the shelf of anyone serious about collecting this series

studied for the ID boards
I used this book to study for the ID boards in 2001. I found
it well organized and thorough enough for most topics. The travel medicine sections were excellent as were the sections on
bacterial infections. The chapters on viral infection could
have been a bit more thorough but were for the most part adequate. The sections on parasitic diseases were very well
written and appropriate for board review. Overall, I recommend
this text for ID fellows and ID practicing physicians but not for physicians in other fields.

D.H. Lawrence on Screen: Re-Visioning Prose Style in the Films of "the Rocking-Horse Winner," Sons and Lovers, and Women in Love (Literature and the Visual Arts, Vol. 12)
Published in Hardcover by Peter Lang Publishing (1999)
Author: Jane Jaffe Young
Amazon base price: $59.95
Average review score:

An insightful book for literary film buffs
What goes in to translating true literary works into cinematic images? The author of this fine new book neither pretends to know what was on D.H. Lawrence's mind when he penned works that would become classics or what was on the minds of directors who crafted some of these work into films. Instead, she offers something more valuable: an almost scene-by-scene assessment of book/movie translation. She astutely looks at what was on the page of "Sons and Lovers," "The Rocking-Horse Winner" and "Women in Love" and the images that were use to convey (and sometimes) alter meanings on screen. It goes without saying that true Lawrence fans will find something interesting here. But this study might also rivet any serious, maturing film director or critic. It contributes meaningfully to our consideration of 20th-Century artistic vision and expression. And fortunately, the author writes clearly and with sharper opinion, than many academics. Dozens of black and white film stills also help us see she what she saw.

A piece of life
Lawrence David's outstanding first novel is a delicious piece of work which depicts the main events in the Wallaces' family life (it could be YOUR OWN family life) through the 70's and 80's. One of those thousands of families whose parents still wanted to keep loyal to the picture of the true American Family while their children had already inherited the 60's winds of change. In David's detailed, present-tensed, minimalistic writing, the reader is allowed to watch through a keyhole the Wallaces' struggling with incidents year by year, and above all, the mother's interior doubts, those who affected so many other women of the 70's who decided that being "a homemaker" just wasn't good enough anymore. Sandy Wallace is one of the best female characters I've read in a long time.

David's second novel (Need) is equally recommendable, and I'm eagerly awaiting his third one. For the time being, Family Values is a magnificent read, especially for those who have been, are or aspire to become parents.

Buy this book, it's very exciting
My mommy bought me this book. I liked this book very much. It was very funny. I liked that the cupcaked crusader had superpowers because he ate cupcakes, that was exciting. The powers only last for a few hours and it was sad when he lost them. I like that this book is about a boy, there are many books about girls already. The pictures very neat too.
I am now reading the second book and hope it is as good as the first one. Maybe it will be even better.

"Why and How Accounting"
Spiceland and Sepe's "Intermediate Accounting II" is written in familiar language. It is not a struggle to understand the concepts, because you don't need to deceifer the language. The book and related materials teach why methods are used to enable the student to learn how and when to use different methods of accounting. I rated it a 4 because I did not recieve the CD's that are supposed to come with it. By itself, the book should be a sufficient learning tool.

Good introduction to media advocacy
This was assigned reading for my graduate level course in health communications. Admittedly it was a little hard to get into (not sure if it was because I had to read it or if it was a bit thick). I'm glad a got past the beginning introductory and descriptive stuff because the rest of the book was great! It offers a different perspective on health communications and really stimulated my thinking about how to use the media and how the media is used. I found the examples Wallack, et al., used were the most educational in understanding media advocacy and public health.

Sons and Lovers

Excellent text, but other editions are better
This was a great psychological novel, proving that D.H. Lawrence is messed up. It stars an artist who cannot get into any serious relationships with women because he is obsessed with his mother. I like the story itself, but I would like it if this edition at least provided some information about the author. So that's why rate this edition four stars, because some other editions with more biographical information are better. Still the text itself is certainly a masterpiece. Supposedly this story is semi-autobigraphical. If you're into great literature and not too scared of Freud, then this book it excellent.
