The War Prayer

..The best example of opposing viewpoints ever written.
Mark Twain's The War Prayer forces us to examine the hypocrisy that lies beneath our patriotism. It either shatters our comfort zone and leaves us reeling with a feeling of shame that we can be so inhumane to others, or it compels us to place the "lunatic" burden out of print. The War Prayer should be mandatory reading for high school students.

I thought I was well educated on war until I read this work.
I read this in college a couple years back in an english class. I had always seen war from the winner's side, forgetting the pain and heartache felt by the opposition. This work made me reflect on how horrible and devastating war can be. I recommend this reading to anyone interested in exploring the complex results of winning a war.

All leaders of nations should be required to read this book
I first read The War Prayer when I was in college during the Viet Nam era, and now am using it to teach my children about war. Schools teach students the "glories" of war. Sam Clements shows us there is another side to this coin. Would that we could learn his lesson before it is too late.

What the Dying Teach Us: Lessons on Living

Getting to the heart of hospice care!
From an experienced hospice minister comes a revelation of the heart of the Hospice mission. This book conveys the inner experience of hospice care, death and dying and questions about the meaning of life, death and the Spirit. Read along and get back in touch with what is really going on during the most intimate moments of the dying process as well as life itself.

An Excellent Guide to Living in the Aftermath of Death
Reverend Samuel Oliver has written an outstanding guide to learning to live life in the aftermath of the death of a loved one. I asked to review this book because it is something that is particularly relevant to families of those coping with life-threatening diseases and disorders. People with such illnesses and their families often face the unknown, but this book seeks to bring some peace of mind and spirit. Written in a series of 19 lessons, the author guides us through the questions that plague us all and accompany the death of those close to us. The author succeeds at his task, though because of the book's non-sectarian take, some of the wisdom it imparts leaves you asking even more questions - specifics that can only be answered by your own religious convictions. Despite occasional generalities, this book is full of wisdom and will go far to bringing peace to a transition that often troubles us all.

Truely a Spiritually Inspired Writing
At the time I discovered Sam Olivers Book, I was enrolled in a chaplaincy program at a local hospital. I believed the content would be most helpful in my own ministry. Little did I realize that this book would be my own source of comfort, strength and guidance only a few short months later when I was thrown into an unwanted, unexpected divorce.

I have discovered that the pain of a divorce can be almost as devastating as the death of a loved one. This book served as a guide through that darkness. The comfort and spiritual direction I derived has contributed greatly in my healing process and the continuation of my ministry.

Thank you Sam Oliver for your contribution to my life.

Know Someone Who Is Expecting? Buy THIS BOOK!
Just ordered another 3 copies of Healy's book (1994 edition). This book was recommended in my doctorate program in education as a MUST HAVE for anyone who is expecting. The suggestions of how to build brain capacity and learning begin while a woman is pregnant, so I've purchased it for all female family members who are now expecting as well as those who have recently had babies. I've also purchased a copy for my elementary school's parent resource center. The information presented in Healy's book presents the transitions of the brain through the school years in a practical, easy to understand manner.

Great for parents of newborns AND older kids!
If you buy this book to learn about your baby, plan to hang on to it for many, many years. I have a newborn AND a 14-year-old. Although there was a lot of interesting information concerning my newborn, I learned even MORE about my older child! I really wish I had had this book a few years ago when she was struggling through sixth and seventh grades. I finally understand why she struggled! There were tips in this book that would have helped. This is a book I will try to reread at least once a year because the information is relevant to so many stages in your child's life. It is easy to read, enjoyable and useful. I especially like the bullet points of things to do at the end of each section.

Every parent should read this book!
It details in a clear, parent-friendly way the various developmental phases growing children go through and explains why it is so important that they be allowed to go through those phases. I wish this book had been available when my children were young! It makes an excellent gift to give to new parents.

Angelic Revelations of Divine Truth, Volume I

Jesus and the Celestials give us the True Gospel
This is truly 'the book' for the New Millenium. If you ever wondered what is the nature of God, what 'the soul' really is, if there will be a second coming of Jesus on earth, what were the actual events surrounding the death and resurrection of Jesus (the account of the events of Easter are like nothing I'd ever imagined) ,and more, much more...this 'is 'the book for you. I had been a biblical scholar for over thirty years when I was fortunate to stumble across this wonderfully powerful and most believable book. The contents, even if they are read as fiction, will astonish most readers. I feel I have been given a real account of the Gospels by those who were actually there. This book offers no shortage of attempts to correct the many errors and interpolations of the Gospels as well; something most open-minded biblical scholars will embrace. As an ordained Christian minister,I cannot give a higher recommendation...read this book!

Incredible & wonderful - it will change your life
I thank my lucky stars every day that this book (& volume II) came into my life. As a very dubious & cynical atheist, I approached these books with considerable skepticism... and to my utter amazement, found that they contain the Truth. My life is entirely transformed & I've seen others' lives transformed also, thanks to the Truths contained in "The Angelics".

Do yourself a favour, read this book... God's Divine Love is waiting for you & this book tells you how to receive it.

The most important, life-altering book I've ever read
Quite simply, this is the single most important, life-altering book I've ever read or will read. The messages ring with truth, beauty and authority. For all those seeking the Truth, this book should be read, reread and treasured. In it can be found "the pearl of great price."

UNBEARABLY WONDERFUL!!!...
OH MY..You know how sometimes you find a rare book and it just hits you that it is going to be amazing?? Well.."Bed of Spices" is one of those rare gems..I am telling you this story had me wild. I ABSOLUTELY LOVED Solomon and Rica. When I found out what the conflict in this book was..I have to admit I was a bit worried...I just couldnt see how it was going to work out..infact, at one point I was so wildly frustrated and worried that Rica and Solomon wouldnt be together , that I flipped ahead to the ending just to make sure..this is something that I have NEVER done before, but in this case I just couldnt take it and had to reassure myself. "Bed of Spices" is without a doubt a definite keeper. It may be a little hard to come by, but believe me it is sooo worth the search. PLEASE DO NOT PASS UP THE CHANCE TO READ THIS UNBELIEVABLY BEAUTIFUL AND EMOTIONAL LOVE STORY!

Fantastic medieval romance in unusual setting...
This is going to be a very short review, because I won't really be able to do this book justice. The story is set in Strassburg 1348 (the time when the Black Death has just arrived in Europe). The protagonists are Solomon, a trainee physician, who is the son of a prosperous Jewish merchant; and Rica (Frederica), the daughter of a "new" nobleman. Both face familial constraints, but they are also divided by their religions, their class, and the expectations each family has of them. Rica is expected by her father to marry a rather religious German nobleman who cannot tell her apart from her mentally and emotionally disturbed twin sister Etta. Solomon is expected to become a physician, and then to marry a suitable Jewish girl. Add to all this, the fact that Rica and Solomon meet each other secretly at the cottage of her father's mistress (the local wisewoman). Add to this, the fact that mobs are beginning to massacre Jews all over Europe, believing them responsible for the Black Death. Don't worry, our hero and heroine survive - although their sanity is often tested, along with their commitment to each other.

This is one romance I am keeping. It is well worth several re-reads, for the complex social interactions as well as the sheer beauty of the relationship. To learn more about the book, buy a book (used, I'm afraid!), or check out the review at All About Romance which clued me into this wonderful book.

ROMANTIC, GRIPPING STORY!
I bought this used from Amazon and am so happy that I had the opportunity to read and savor it. It is well worth hunting for. The story is rich with great characters. And the trevails of the lovers kept me on the edge of my seat. I have purchased every book, used or new, by Ms. Samuel/Wind that I have been able to find. Thanks to Amazon for offering used books when a book is out of print. This is a beautiful story told by a stunningly fine author.

At last spirituality with Grunt
I find many books on spirituality are mushy and carry no presence, I found the story a facinating journey into a possible REAL future for humanity at large and was for me at last a book that combines spirituality with everyday life, love and war. It really made me fire up as I could truly feel something massive behind it and Barkhan Seer is the ultimate for a FULL ON DUDE.

Anyone who is sick of airy fairy spirituality should read this book.

Bleeding Sun
I love science fiction and read a lot of it - but this one was different! The story twists and turns like all good yarns, but the hero Hiram takes the battle into some pretty interesting dimensions, one of which being the world of the gods. The book gave insights into a possible future which seems scary but very plausible - yet threaded through the text is this very tangible spiritual lineage which goes back to Atlantean Secrets. I loved it!

The future of humanity?
WOOOWW! Bleeding Sun clearly is really the fifth book of the Atlantean Secrets saga, with references to preceding characters and story lines. 13,000 years after Atlantis humanity is in its darkest hour and the Master of Thunder and the Archive people have arisen to challenge the 'Rex's' supremacy over mankind... I found this book incredibly awakening....yep, there still is time to wake up and see the world as it really is...not a pretty sight...I might add...

The World of the Chow Chow
Compared to the other books specifically on Chow Chows, this book is better. However, that is not saying much. A real good book would deal more in-depth on the care, genetics, potential health problems and their cure or prevention, and breeding (whether to breed or not). Also important would be a more detailed and illustrated chapter on what to look for and avoid in the Chow. Other books, including this one, tend to overemphasize pages and pages of glossy photos of show winners, their kennels, their trophies, etc. - none of which are really helpful to the average Chow owner. A good book would stress the importance of health and functionality over show dog looks (which are influenced by passing fads, often downright harmful to a dog.) I sincerely hope that chow breeders get away from overly stocky, overly built chows who can't trot without panting heavily because of overly short muzzles, Chows with overly thick eyefolds that obscure their vision, Chows who don't whelp naturally because either their puppies have overly big heads or their anatomical structure no longer accommodates natural whelping, and chows that can't move right because they are not built right. The greatest travesty to Chows would be reduce the once proud, independent, working dog to a man-made freak like the English bulldog.

Chow Chows Rule....
I contributed 12 photographs to this project and at the time it was printed...this book did a good job of showing where the Chows where today. Also mentioned were the Kennels that raised the Chows and showed them in the ring. If you want a good quality Chow, then I think you should go with a breeder. I have owned 5 Chows and still have a white male that runs the house.
Full blooded Chows are a joy to live with...It was a great
experience to be a part of this project...

A must for any Chow owner!
The World of the Chow Chow is absolutely fantastique! It is filled with stunning photos and an abundance of information on each Chow that is proudly displayed - it is only equaled by Isabella Milani's Chow Chow Champions of Europe in quality and it blows every other Chow book out of the water. Sure, it's a little bit pricey but it is definitely worth every penny. You will not regret owning this book.

Confusing
This book really made me question a lot of things I thought I was certain of in life. It was a strange moral lesson offered through the lives of ordinary people with some of the same struggles I have to deal with at work and at home. The characters were in situations I've been in with my recent divorce, but I saw what could have happened to me and my family if I had not controlled myself when I felt compelled to behave cruelly.

Modern Mad Sensualist
It was pretty clear to me by the end of this book that the author was trying to say something about relationships that is very difficult to pinpoint. The people in this book act irrationally and impulsively and generally seem to be horrible human beings, but they are not. The one thing they all seem to have in common is that they never consider the consequences of their actions; they live without regret or fear and they pay for it dearly. The author is a classic sensualist with a flare for describing disturbing behavior and warped thought processes in average people. I love the way the characters appear to be the same people we pass on the street every day without noticing them, but on the inside, they are just as twisted and insecure as everyone else.

Unnerving
I just started reading this book the other day and I don't really understand everything that is going on yet, but I'm bothered by it. I like it, but there are some parts that are so frightening that I hate to believe there are really people who would do such horrible things to each other. I'm anxious to see what happens and I hope there's a happy ending, but I can't figure out what's going to happen next. At the same time, I can't wait to find out.

All Your Prayers Are Answered

Brilliant! A must-read book!
This reviewer read and endorsed Dr. Menahem's first book, When Therapy Isn't Enough. The publication of his second, All Your Prayers Are Answered, proves two truths to me. One is that education and the resultant enlightenment is ongoing. And the other is that Sam Menahem is even more insightful, compassionate and sharing than I knew.

All Your Prayers Are Answered continues and amplifies the fact that, "...in addition to the personal unconscious self, with all its conflicts, there is also a Higher Spiritual Self...". Thus, Dr. Menahem explores the ways in which prayer and meditation work, how to pray effectively and how to recognize the answers to our prayers.

The reader learns that, "When people seek therapy, they are usually looking for symptomatic relief from depression, anxiety, guilt or relationship problems". But as Dr. Menahem points out, "As we learn to join with the Higher Self, the part of us connected to the divine, our symptoms fade and our relationships improve".

By using his studies in Eastern and Western religions combined with his training in transpersonal psychology and actual case studies of patients he has treated, Dr. Menahem proves the effectiveness of the alliance between ego and Spirit. "It is very difficult to get the ego to acknowledge its inevitable alliance with God. But it is necessary and can be accomplished in different ways by the various forms of prayer".

All Your Prayers Are Answered can enable the reader to realize that the goal of prayer is Self realization, and that prayer helps us to see that the ego gives us an incomplete and erroneous perception of our true nature. Sam Menahem, Ph.D has written a new paradigm of understanding and enlightenment!

What's the question?
In Dr. Menahem's book, he doesn't disappoint. After his first book and after taking a class with him at Columbia, I expected nothing less than humor mixed with compassion and grace ... the book is firmly constructed within and outside the walls of classic to experimental philosophy/psychology. Delightful!! Just like Sam, er, Dr. Menahem.

Psychology values Religion
Dr. Sam Menahem is gaining a growing reputation for his spiritual insights related to psychotherapy and counseling. In his latest book, he presents compelling cases and ideas on the importance of prayer for our emotional health. I found his chapter on forgiveness to be especially worthwhile. Those in the helping professions, as well as lay readers, will find this book a valuable resource.

Interesting Book!
I was really surprised when I read this book! If you have ever been to Trinidad, it is really interesting to relate what you have seen with this book. Samuel Selvon portrayed the life of a peasant and made an interesting, factual narrative. I enjoyed seeing how the Yankees came to the country and built the highway. I always wondered how it got the name "Churchhill-Roosevelt" and now I know. Great book, and I recommend to read this book if you have been to the Island.

Brilliant Book
This book is absolutely brilliant. It captures the true multi ethnic fabric of Trinidadian society through the trials of an Indian boy struggling to make it in early 20th century Trinidad. This book brings to light many ethnic and cultural issues that are a now inherent part of Trinidadian life, and is not only a brilliant piece of literature that should be cherished, but a piece of Caribbean history.
