What can one say about a classic? Is it possible to review Beethoven's Ninth? Faulker's "As I Lay Dying"? No. This is arguably the book that most influenced almost all the subsequent generations of photographers. Frank looked at the world with a fresh viewpoint and his photographs were a slap in the face. It's impossible to put ourselves in the world of photography that preceded this book because Frank has changed our prespectives so drastically.

The Americans is perhaps the most influential photography book published in the last 40 years. Swiss-born Robert Frank's images must have seemed completely revolutionary and startling when published in 1958. Frank used his camera to cut through the facade of a country that was beginning to build up its crust of macadam and marketing. Frank shot with available light using film that would be considered very slow by today's standards, yet his images, while many have visible grain, are gorgeous and have a full range of tones. In 1955, Swiss photographer Robert Frank traveled around the United States on a Guggenheim Fellowship. The images he created were published first in France in 1958, and then the following year in America. Highly controversial in its day, "The Americans" gave us a much needed outsiders view of who we are as a people.

Frank is an incredibly skilled image maker, able communicate on many different levels with a single image. Jack Kerouac is the perfect person to write the intro to this book. Both artists worked in a similar way, using travel, speed and chance to communicate fleeting, yet deep, feelings about our complex culture.

Perfectly enjoyable by anyone with an interest in American culture, but essential for those practicing documentary photography.

"Legacy: Selected Drawings & Paintings by Frank Frazetta" brings together many examples from the career of this distinctive artist. The book has been edited by Arnie Fenner and Cathy Fenner, and includes a foreword by Danton Burroughs.

"Legacy" gives examples of Frazetta's covers for books, magazines, and comic books, as well as movie posters and even comedy album covers. Many memorable characters from pop culture are depicted: King Kong, Dracula, Tarzan, etc. I especially liked the illustrations from Edgar Rice Burroughs' Mars books, with their six-limbed Martian apes and tusked, green-skinned warriors.

Some of Frazetta's illustrations are haunting, even melancholy, and others are exciting and action-packed. A sorcerer summoning a demon, a scuba diver facing a sea monster, and of course, voluptuous maidens will be found in this book. In some cases, alternate versions of the same commission are given (making this book especially useful for art students and cultural historians). I recommend this book to those interested in the visual art of the sci-fi, fantasy, and adventure genres.

This is book 2 of a trilogy. This one seems to have more emphasis on his comic book and comic strip work, than what appears in the other two books of the trilogy, "Icon" and "Testament." This one includes an 8-page romance comic book story by Frank, from 1952.

There are also plenty more Tarzan/Burroughs/John Carter of Mars works, and terrific paintings of Savage Pellucidar.

Frank's work for Warren magazines, like Eerie, Creepy, and Vampirella get shown and discussed in this book (and also in the other two books of this series).

All of the different eras and decades of Frank's life and career are discussed and shown, in all three books, but always with different paintings, drawings, personal photos, and different commentary by different friends and business associates.

I would recommend starting with "Icon" if you're new to Frazetta's work, but "Legacy" is a close second, containing the works that he is best known for. "Testament" has a focus on unpublished, never before seen work.

One thing that is surprising in all three of these books is seeing how Frazetta would often paint over his paintings, to improve them and change major elements, after they were originally published. So, many of his paintings look different than the way they were printed on paperback covers in the 1960's and '70's.

I am very pleased with all three of these books, but "Legacy" is my favorite of the three, if I really had to choose.

Frank Frazetta is a once in an era painter. He was as much an inspiration to my own large scale figure art as was Michaelangelo. This book is brimming with lush and lavish color reproductions. Frazetta, a true natural and the father of powerful and darkly and richly, colorful, anatomically creative, fantasy art. He has been imitated by dozenz, surpassed by none of them. One would have to go back to the Renaissance to find anyone more free, comfortable and creative in use of anatomy and composition. He would hold his own with the great painters of the past 700 years. This is a great book for artists and art lovers. I bought several for my grandchildren, it will be a valuable collectible in 5-10 years.

WOW! This book is filled with information, pictures, and interesting facts that the world never knew about Lucy. This gives you a look behind the clown and into Lucille Ball, the woman. Here is a side of Lucy few people know or see. It has great pictures of Lucy's life, both private and public, and it covers her life up until the day she was born on August 6th, 1911, till the day she died on April 26th, 1989. This pictorial biography takes you on an entertaining and informative tour through the life of a legend, a must-have for ANY Lucy fan!

Lucy a Life In Pictures was one of the best books I have ever read. I am a big fan of Lucy's so by reading this wonderful book I became farmiliar with her life.The pictures and captions were great so I would highly recomend this book to anyone who Loves Lucy.I Became a bigger Lucy fan by reading this book and a Tim Frew Fan as well! -Kesia

I loved the pictures that were in the book. They were detailed enough to where it didn't tell you too much and you where never asking "why?". If you liked this book you'll love her audobiography LOVE, LUCY.

This book has excellent pictures with the most vital information for a biography project. A great buy and great read for interested fans of Ol' Blue Eyes.

MAYER etc.Better than most biographies because it is based on facts not rumours.The early pictures from his beginnings are alone worth the price.I was fortunate enough to get this book at the third of it's price and i went through it very fast because once you open it, you simply can't take your hands out of it.If FRANK became the singer of the past century, it's not by accident, he worked hard at it.I was particulary touched by his loyalty to his true friends.FRANK SINATRA is a mirror of his country. I had to get this book after seeing how low the price came down.The original price was 40 dollars. Nancy Sinatra's book on her Father has everything in here.I couldn't believe Frank weighted 13and a half pounds when he was born on December 12,1915.The Doctor ripped and scarred his ear,check,and neck,plus puncturing his eardrum.Frank wasn't breathing,so his grandmother Rose held the baby under cold running water until he gasped his first breath and cried.This book is like a Diary.It goes from year to year,sometimes month to month.All of Franks movies,records,concerts,TV shows,songs,and the name of the songwriters are in here,plus hundreds of pictures,starting with Frank's baby photo, ending with a touching family photo taken in 1996.There's a wonderfull picture of Marilyn Monroe taken with Dean Martin sitting ringside at the Sands..All of the stars are in here,and family pictures we've never seen before.If you are a Frank Sinatra fan,you have to get this Book.Its huge,and the pictures are fantastic.

This book is a must for anyone with a child. I have worked in a daycare and also am an education major. All the children I have read this book to have fallen in love with Froggy and his dressing mishaps. Even two year olds request "Froggy snow!" during book time. This is also great for younger elementary students who love to read this book and have it read to them. Watch out for the laughter!

I read this book to my pre school class and they just loved it, especially when Froggy forgets his underwear. We bought copies of this book to give to all of the children for christmas. My daughter Melissa is going to graduate in May with a teaching degree so I am buying this book to give to her so she can share this story with her class. Great Great Book for young children

My three year old little boy Nicklas loves this book to death he thinks it the greatest book he has ever heard me read to him, he likes reading it over and over again. He loves the noises the clothes make when froggy puts them on. And he also loves when the mother frog yells for froggy and asks himm if he forgot to put something on, ands how embarassed froggy gets when he forgets to put on his underwear.

This easy-to-read, bible-based text really shows the scriptural basis of many questions against the Catholic doctrines such as Mary mother of God, purgatory, prayer to the Saints, and Sacred Tradition, etc. This 40-page text was written in a very logical and well-referenced manner.

This book has not only inspired me to further my study into the biblical teachings on the Sacraments, but also faciliated my background knowledge on biblical discussion of Church doctrines with Christians of any denomination.

I am feeling truly blessed for my faith journey and starting to feel a greater urge to share this special gift from God with others. "Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations..." (Mt 28:19)

If you want to get the basics in defending the Catholic faith, this is best introductory book out there. It has many of the major arguments for Catholicism contracted into 40 easy to read pages. How do they do it? The authors get to the point without using verbose language and stories. This is a 1 to 2 hour read that will build the foundation for future studies in Catholic apologetics. When you have finished this, I recommend reading Karl Keating. When you are ready for some advanced study, try Robert Sungenis (I recommend 1-2 years of intense Bible study before you try to tackle his books).

The information contained in this booklet will prove to be a great asset to both cradle Catholics & converts alike, even to non-Catholics wanting to know more about the faith. Well-written and easy to read, the author gives several references to double and triple-check the information so you're sure he backs up everything he's saying! The reader is left with a clear understanding of some of the most misunderstood teachings of the Catholic Church - from the Real Presence in the Eucharist to Mary and the Saints to Papal authority. This book is a must-have for all Catholic home libraries.

Our weekly Bible study group used this last fall, and the question that repeated itself most often was "Why didn't we learn this growing up?" Highly recommended for continued formation and evangelization!!

My wife and I love your book. We have visited 10 of the parks you list. However, please warn your readers that there is an adjacent rifle range in the Dogtown walk in Gloucester. If you have a dog that is frightened by gunfire, thunder, or cars backfiring then stay away from this walk! Our Bearded Collie ran away when the rifles started firing. We were very fortunate to find our dog (although about 4 miles away) in about 4 hours. I would not want this to happen to anyone else.

When we arrived in the Boston Metro area with our golden retriever, this was the first book we bought. It is a god-send! Immensely detailed and highly accurate, it lists hundreds of places to take your dog in Boston, the surrounding communities, the Cape, and even as far afield as New Hamsphire. The book is divided into 12 geographic areas. In turn, each broad region is sub-divided by town. Within each town, Downey and Lau first list Parks, Beaches, and Recreation Areas. These are subjectively rated from 1 to 4 paws. In our experience, one paw sites are only good for a quick pitstop. Four paw sites, however, are routinely wonderful. Usefully, a running dog symbol indicates off-leash parks. Directions, a map, and a reasonably detailed description of the facilities follow. Downey and Lau also list for each towndog-friendly restaurants, accomodations, festivals, pet sitters, and the like. So far their advice has been dead accurate--up-to-date and on the money. If you love dogs and live in the Boston area, you need this book. Highly recommended.

You name a outdoor recreation spot near Boston and it's in this book! Even if you don't have a dog and you simply enjoy the outdoors, you need this book! It lists ALL of the places to hike and explore in and around Boston. My dog Lucky says hello too. I also agree with the other reader that Great Brook Farm State Park should be on your top doggy list. You rated it 4 paws with leash-free roaming. This place rocks.

The book "Dorothy and the Wizard of OZ," is a great book,and should be recommended for anyone who likes to read. It starts out when Dorothy and Zeb are riding in a buggy, and then this huge earthquake comes, causing a big crack in the earth to form. they fall inside the earth, and end up landing in what we know as "munchkin City", but in the book it is called "The Glass City". They meet the munchkins, and then take off for the wizard. They get there, and then this sorcerer comes out, and starts talking them, as he turns into a funny looking thorny man. the wizard finds the sorcerer and cuts him in half. They take the cut in half sorcerer, and barry him in the vegetable garden. The prince of the vegetable kingdom, tells Dorothy to go and find him a princess. So she does. One night while the wizard and Dorothy are sleeping, they get a visit from the evil Mangaboos. They wernt goin to let them go, but then they did. They then went through a mountain, and came put on the other side, which was the Mangaboos's kingdom. While they were there, they ran into a man they called The Braided Man of Pyramid Mountain. The man then lead them to the Wooden gargoyles. They then made a great escape from them. After a few more stunts took place, all the old friends reunited. The wizard then did another trick, and then Zeb went back to the ranch, and after Dorothy gave them a kiss, and said goodbye, she was gone in a madder of seconds.

In this book the three main characters are, Dorothy, the wizard, adn Zeb. Dorothy was a little girl, who liked to take risk, and liked to have fun, but be careful about it at the same time. In this book, she was about eleven years old, she had blonde hair, and wore a shirt little white dress. instead of a dog, she onwned a cat named Eureka. The cat isn't mentioned very much, until the very end. Zeb is Dorothy's cousin, and he is pretty quite during the book. He is mentioned, and helps take care od buisness, and helps them get out of situations when they are in danger, or are trapped by somebody bad. In this book he is about thirteen, or so and does not talk very much. The wizard is very very talkitive. He likes to help people through times, and he likes to be in charge over everything. He knows alot about the land, and what is there, and what can happen. He is about in his fortys, but still is a great wizard, he helped out Dorothy from the funny looking thorney sorcerer by cutting him in half. In my opinion I think this book is really good, but can get a little confussing. So you have to pay atention to all of it, and read it when your not buissy, other wise it wont make any since.

Dorothy and the Wizard In Oz is the 4th book in The Wizard of Oz series.

In this story, Dorothy and Zebediah (Zeb), her second cousin, fell into the middle of the earth though a crack. When they landed, they were in a city. The rest of the story is the trying to get out of the middle of the earth.

There is one really neat thing that happens in this book. As many of you remember, whether you read the book or saw the movie, the Wizard of Oz floated away in a hot-air balloon. Well, in this book, the Wizard lands in the city where Dorothy and Zeb are. He must have been floating for a really long time!

As I have for all of the books in this series, I suggest this book for those who like to read for fun and don't mind a little major fantasy. (Like when Dorothy and Zeb fall through the earthquake to the center of the earth, they could've never survived!)

L. Frank Baum, who wrote the Wizard of Oz, a little before WWI, the famous tale of Dorothy and her delightful friends that was immortalized in the 1939 film starring Judy Garland, did not stop writing the adventures of Dorothy. In later years, he wrote further exploits, as Dorothy returns to the magical realm time and again, meeting with her old friends the Tin Man, the Scarecrow, etc but encountering newer evils, i.e. Mombi the witch. The only other film drawn from these later novels is the 1980's film "Return to Oz" starring Faureza Balk as Dorothy, a less popular film. I highly recommend the Oz books, all of them, though you might want to check their chronological and consecutive order, for they are excellent works of fiction and fantasy, and in fact, the very first "fantasy" series of its time. Baum did what Tolkien would later do in his extensive Lord of the Rings novels and what C.S. Lewis did in his Narnia Chronicles, the first book being the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe. These works of fantasy are excellent. In this particular story, we again meet Dorothy (formerly Pip, a young Kansas boy, a sort of male counterpart to Dorothy, had adventures in Oz) who has been living with her cousin Zeb in California. While riding on a buggy, an eathquake takes Dorothy and Zeb deep underground and they are transported back to Oz. We are introduced to characters that will appear in other Oz novels, including the benevolent enchantress and ruler of Oz, Ozma, who took over the land after the incident involving the phony Wizard in The Wizard of Oz. The rest is history. Dorothy will forever live in our hearts, and the Oz will forever be linked with innocence, with magic, and with childhood. I still enjoy reading these novels, and everyone should also, and be caught up once again in L. Frank Baum's immortal epic.

The most recent edition of this book is the 8th edition ISBN # 068566290x printed in 2000. All the major book retailers do not list this as even being in print although it most certainly is. It can easily be found through catalogs from falconry retailers.

Frank Beebe's North American Falconry and Hunting Hawks is a wonderful guide to caring for a bird, feeding it,training it, and hunting with it. It has extensive patterns for hoods and other equipment used in the sport.

This book is a must have for falconers, especially those falconry apprentices seeking knowledge to pass state exams. Not only an excellent reference book but an enjoyable wealth of falconry background. Learn about the different kinds of birds of prey of the falconry world, obtaining, training and care of these magnificent birds.
