In the state of Vermont, it is required by the Family Court law that divorcing parents attend a 6-hour long workshop on "co-parenting" and the effects of negative parent behavior on children. What a joke! I wish instead that the state of Vermont mandated that every divorcing parent read this resource. I learned so much more from Gary Neuman and the children and families he has worked with.
This thorough book covers every topic imaginable that is associated with divorce and family transition. The focus is from the child's perspective on matters such as validating your childrens feelings, protecting your children from conflict, separating adult issues from children's issues, custody and visitation, uncooperative parents and parent-bashing, child support and financial stress, relocating, dating, and most importantly, how children "feel" about all the ups and downs associated with this life changing event.
I highly recommend this book for every parent who is experiencing a family separation. I still pull it out periodically before I crawl into bed. It's a great "reality check" and helps keep things in perspective, still, two years after our family experienced this transition.

It turned out to be a riveting read and I lost count of the number of times I thought "Hey, that's happened to me!"
The Shadow Negotiation teaches by example, and delves into the psychological and social intracacies of negotiation. This book has enriched my understanding of the layers of negotiations that occur long before arriving at the table.
This book is for both sexes, and applies to all sorts of negotiations that pop up in everyday life. As a consultant, I have applied it to my salary negotiations, and find that I can manage my business relationships with much greater confidence. A wonderful gift to all of your working friends and family!

The great thing about these books is the easy flow of the story. You open them, and before you know it youre battling alongside King Arthur, running through the burning streets of Constantinople or fleeing the Hounds of God. And all the time there are the marvelous details, the dialog, the people. These characters are so easy to fall in love with. Alfred is so scared, so confused you just wish you could reach out a hand and tell him everything will be alright. Beacuse you feel so close to these people, al the way through the books.
These are definately worth the read.
You get to laugh and cry with Thea, his oposite, sure in her power, loving her abilities. Loving him.
You get to travel alongside Jehan, young novice, clumsy scholar, powerful warrior-priest.
You get to follow the hard path of the elven King of Rhianna, who knows that only he can protect his country, but also that he is the cause of its peril.
You get to love Nikki, the boy whose path crosses Alfeds by coinsidence, and whose whole world changes.
This story will remain with you forever. Its magical world is our own, and that is part of the magic. The Fair Folk are essentialy us, they are humans, and that is what makes this a story that will break your heart.

The Beader's Companion covers beading terminology, how-to bead, what materials are needed for beading. Clear concise directions are included for just about every method of beading, with each method listed on small, sturdy pages. Included with the directions are easy to understand diagrams. And for each method of beading covered, there is a blank beading pattern template.
Frankly, it doesn't get any better than this. Not only is this book a perfect gift for yourself and/or anyone with even the slightest interest in beading, it is also a great travel companion. I take the book with me whenever I know I will have time to bead, while on the road. It is the perfect size, construction, and help to finish any beading project I might be working on.
I recommend this book to anyone who beads, and anyone who would like to learn how to bead. This book is THE Beader's Companion.

But despite this loving treatment, Simon is tired of living. After spending a night shuffling through old memories of his kittenhood, he sticks his legs in the air and breaths his last.
Or so he thinks. At that moment, his family plops a kitten on his stomach and the old trouper discovers a new purpose in life--to become the kitten's "Grannyman."
Schachner's story is poignant and her illustrations, done in textured charcoal with watercolors, are expressive and show the artist's deep love for cats. Her Simon is at once both pitiable and noble. The Grannyman is highly recommended for cat lovers and sentimentalists alike.
