No need to be a customer of the restaurant to love this.
This cookbook is a delight, mixing fresh, seasonal ingredients in surprising but always appetizing ways -- and best of all, using recipes that are not arcane or terribly time-consuming (but do expect to spend a fair amount of time chopping). My personal favorites are two unusual summer dishes, one a fruit gazpacho and the other a hot blueberry soup with coconut milk and lime. Yum! I *will* seek out the restaurant when next I'm in the Pacific Northwest.

You missed a review of it in Seattle Times-Sunday mag.
See abov

Full of creative and mouth-watering recepies!
The recipes in this book hold up to the high quality of food served in the restaurant. I have spent many mornings munching on fresh homemade scones, and my palate waters at the thought of the many varied deserts inside. Every recipe is a treasure in itself, and no kitchen can truly be complete without them.

YOU MUST GET THIS!
I have a rather large cookbook collection (over 500) but if I had to narrow it down to three (there's no way I could only save 1!) This would be one of the first I would grab. The other 2 would be the Better Homes & Gardens "New Cook Book" and as many of the Frugal Gourmet (Jeff Smith) books I could grab; especially, "The Immigrant Ancesters" cookbook.

I have used this book SO many times. From Quail to goose to ice cream made with snow.

Awesome book with great reading.

This "THE" Wild game cookbook
I have many shelves full of cookbooks, including many on wild game. But if I could only keep one book this would be it. This book is the best. I have owned this book since early 1984; it is now dog eared and marked up with comments from the dozens of recipes I have tried. Not only does it give you the best cooking methods for wild game (deer, duck, woodcock, antelope, snipe, etc), but also the accompaniments to go with them (wild rice, braised cabbage, etc) and recipes for camp or field (bannock bread, jerky, etc). If you treasure the sporting life, buy this book.

The L. L. Bean Game and Fish Cookbook
This book is THE game cookbook. Ever had anyone joke about eating 'possum? The recipes are here! There are recipes for all game animals/birds, fish and many non-game species. It is well written and, at nearly 500 pages, is a must for anyone who might be in the position to cook the ordinary as well as the unusual.

It contains info on game preparation such as filleting, butchering, smoking, grilling, and more. It provides info about the game you are cooking and even describes how to determine the age of the game you are about to prepare!

The authors experiences are shared and fun to read. Think of this book as the gold standard and the litmus test to which all others must pass.

Magdalene's Timeless Testament

A Timeless Message for Us All
This fascinating book touched not only my mind but my heart with the truth of its channeled writings. Well organized by sections, the information was both thought-provoking and though-expanding. It provided new perspectives on the life of Jesus and his followers, the times in which they lived, and a clear expression of the humanity of Jesus. There was a simplicity in the message of the writings and of Jesus' teachings that is still pertinent to today. Love thyself AND thy neighbor. Acknowledge the Light within all humans. Seek and ye shall find, within Self. I found this book of channeled writings inspirational because the messages literally stirred within me a desire to be more Light-conscious in my everyday living. And there was much support and encouragement in the writings to help guide me in this way. I would encourage all those seeking more clarity on the true message of Jesus and his followers to read this book.

Enlightenment at its best
Enlightening book for everyone with an open mind and an open heart.

A journey worth taking
Timeless Testament is the story of spirituality's ongoing journey. Through channeling, the voice of Mary Magdalene speaks about faith, healing, wisdom, and truth. The lessons she teaches are about love, light, and energy that transcend time and connect us all in the Light of God. This book will make you introspective; it will make you question your own beliefs and their origins. Journeys have many destinations and many beginnings. This moving account of history and religion told through Mary Magdalene's voice is truly a timeless testament.

Great historical novel
Sutherland weaves together tantalizing hints from the Gnostic gospels and the New Testament gospels to create a new portrait of one of the great women of the Bible. From these fragmented sources, Mary Magdalene is revealed as a woman of passion, intelligence and faith, and a new perspective is provided on some of the enigmatic teachings of Jesus. Through vivid descriptions and characterizations, the ancient past is brought into the present as Mary Magdalene is revealed as a powerful member of Jesus's band of disciples and the spread of Christianity. I highly recommend this book to others interested in the mysteries of faith and the place of women in the Bible.

The Best Mary Magdalene Book Ever !
This is an excellent historical novel. I don't normally read historical novels, but I was devouring this one whenever I had a spare minute. I became very involved in many of the characters in the book and couldn't wait to see what happened to them. The characters and settings are described in such a way as to create pictures of them in your mind while you are reading. This book gave me an outstanding view of the life and teachings of Jesus and Mary Magdalene and taught me things about both that I had never learned elsewhere. I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in a glimpse of the past.

The Best Book on Midwifery
Judith Pence Rooks has written the best book available in the subject of Midwifery. It is a complete history, and is extremely well-written. It includes a comprehensive bibliography. For those of us who have had multiple home-births it is an invaluable resource. This will doubtless be the standard reference for years to come. We hope it will encourage the home-birth movement, and the use of mid-wives, as a safer alternative to physicians, in the United States.

Comprehensive, balanced, readable, an outstanding book!!
Every profession should be so lucky to have someone write a book like this! Rooks has comprehensively and sytematically reviewed the scientific literature pertaining to the care of pregnant and birthing women and the issues of from whom, where, and under what conditions they receive care from health professionals. She writes in a readable, straightforward manner that makes her book useful and accessible to consumers and health care providers. The author is a Centers for Disease Control-educated epidemiologist and a certified nurse-midwife who has evaluated maternal and women's health programs abroad and conducted several major research projects in the United States.

The presentation of the facts in this book blew me away!
Rooks is a great researcher and puts the facts down in readable language without blame on doctors nurses midwives or parents. Most objective book on this highly controversial subject matter.

BUY THIS BOOK
even if you are able to take classes with Lauren, as I was. Just bring your book to have it autographed! Having this book in your kitchen is really like having your own private cooking teacher standing at your elbow. The recipes are clearly written, but what's more important, they are not just rehashed versions of recipes in other books. They are unique and delicious. If you make the banana bread pudding, and everyone you feed it to doesn't swoon, you need new friends. Learning how to easily slice an onion and cut up a chicken is worth the price of the book alone. If you love to cook and feed people, this cookbook is a very worthwhile addition to your collection. I promise, you'll be buying it to give as a present to all the cooks you know.

Lauren Groveman's Kitchen is passionate, creative and fun!!
It's nice to find a cookbook written with passion and creativity. This is no run-of-the-mill cookbook. It's filled with hundreds of simple, easy to use recipes written with style, wit and passion. It's actually fun to read!! And so simple to use. A beautiful book to cherish and use for years to come. MOVE OVER, MARTHA STEWART!! Lauren Groveman is the culinary creator/advisor for the new Millenium! Buy this book! It makes a great gift for everyone from Gen Xer's to Seniors!

This is the most user-friendly& thorough cookbook I've seen!
Lauren Groveman must have read my mind when she wrote this book! Somehow she does it all with every piece of information a busy neophite appreciates as well as the sophistication one aspires to for impressive meals and desserts of every kind.

The "Tips from a Teacher," "Time Management Tips" and "Q&A" inserts save time and frustration and have increased my confidence that culinary genius is not just for the pros any more! Ms. Groveman's personal touches and philosophy make me feel as though I have a private gourmet cooking teacher -- like a genie in a bottle -- on my kitchen shelf. :-)

Media Access and the Military
Published in Hardcover by University Press of America (12 March, 1998)
Author: Judith Raine Baroody
Amazon base price: $62.00
Average review score:

A good read and a solid scholarly work
Readers in international affairs will greatly benefit from reading "Media Access and the Military." The first and last chapters offer a lively discussion of freedom of speech, of what is considered for public knowledge during a war and how this issue is resolved from the point of view of the press and also from the military point of view.

Journalists and researchers will find the appendix very useful, as it includes the research questionnaire and the list of interviewed persons.

The book also offers a concise history of the Gulf War. Scholarly books have no obligation to be "a good read," but I found it extremely interesting.

Excellent background on how the public gets breaking news
Excellent text for the communication specialist or media analyst in search of background on how the American public gets its news about breaking stories -- especially those in which the US Government has a clear policy interest. "Media Access and the Military," using the 1991 Gulf War as a case study, gets as close to "tell it like it is" as we are likely to get on this subject.

An essential text for all students of the Gulf War.
For someone who experienced the Gulf War on assignment in Israel and got the report of the Iraqi attack through CNN moments before hearing the first Scud missiles slam into Tel Aviv, "Media Access and the Military" by Judith Raine Baroody is a fascinating read. An extremely insightful, carefully researched analysis of the Gulf War, the study looks beyond the pyrotechnics and smart and not-so-smart bombs that captured public imagination at the time to the crucial role of the press and its interface with the warriors. It's a story not often told, but told here extremely well -- by a seasoned diplomat who is also a scholar and former TV anchor. It is clear that this book will be the definitive statement on the subject for years to come and an absolute must-read for the military and embassy professionals who are called upon to handle public affairs issues during our next war.

a great book
...All of the kids in room 10 think that all of the teachers live in the school. Until one day, their teacher moves into to the same apartment building as one of the students. The student tries to prove to some of the students that the teachers don't really live at the school, and he does. I think this is a great book and I hope that you get to read it some day too...

Teachers do live at school, don't they?
Whenever my students see my outside of the school setting, they are always shocked. This book is about a boy was sure all the teachers lived at school, ate dinner in the cafeteria, slept in the lounge, etc., until his teacher moves in to his apartment building. Oh no!! He not only sees her carrying out garbage, but sees her wearing sandals that reveal she has TOES!! This is cute for kids (who still may persist in believing teachers live at school), and it would be an ideal gift for the soon-to-be-teacher. Funny text and pictures make this a winner for 6-8 year olds.

Future educator notes importance of Miss Malarkey's life.
If you are a teacher, this book is a must have!! This book shows students that teachers have a life outside of school. How many of us can remember seeing our teacher in an outing in town, and wonder what they were doing outside of school? This book is an EXCELLENT book for the classroom teacher to have.

More Than Meets the Eye: Energy
Published in Plastic Comb by Pooled Resources (21 July, 1999)
Author: Judith Poole
Amazon base price: $17.95
Average review score:

tune into a deeper dimension of self
I turned to Judith's book because of her Healing Tao background. I've practiced HT methods for 6+ years & was still feeling an immense energy drain or assault around certain people, places & circumstances. HT focuses mostly on the internal workings & organ energies but falls short I feel on the relationship that takes place in the energy fields between places & people.

Judith's book brings forth a positive & light approach & style that will introduce or remind you of the intricate relationship of energy that goes on all around us at all times. These interactions are not always positive for all parties involved often leaving the open or sensitive one feeling drained, sick or any myriad of other disharmonious feelings. This book helps you to realize & practice setting your boundaries & gaining more choice of what happens to your energy aound others. It's packed with practical excercises to help get you in touch with a deeper dimension of reality. Thank you Judith! I look forward to your next book :)

Hands-on approach to understanding Energy
Judith Poole has produced a remarkable piece of work that enables the reader to understand and work consciously with the multitudes of energy systems that we are so much a part of. Her personal annecdotes reminded me of so many experiences of my own, where I became physically uncomfortable in crowds for apparently no reason. I carry this little jewel every where I go, now. It will be a constant source of referral for you.

Excellent introduction to the "invisible" world around us.
Why do you feel exhausted around some people, and energized around others? What is that pain in your back trying to tell you? Why is it as important to cleanse your aura as it is your physical body? Judith Poole addresses Poole has given us an excellent introduction to the "invisible" world around us, and how it affects us--whether or not we are aware of it! Her descriptions are easy enough for the general reader to understand, but not condescending. The advanced energy worker may also find new information here. She also provides easy exercises to help learn mastery of this--to many--unknown realm. This book will be invaluable to students and teachers of energy alike. I recommend it to all of my Shamballa/Reiki students.
