The dark side of the Moon
Albahari's work is and will be a complex simplicity, a work wich will always make you think about the words: the power of words. Most of his work has not been translated yet. I hope that somebody will start doing it. If not, I will not be surprised, if Albahari will start to write in English - in that way the Ballkan will have the first Joseph Conrad! His stories are awesome, you will have a feeling that you are reading through a microscope, you will reveal thinks that you see but that you never percieved them before, you will start to be possesed by inner ideas how life is such a complex world (especially in Ballkan (sic!)), and with all it's tragic ingredients how terrible can it be when nationalism, hate and historical revenege starts to rise and to controll you ... If the Second WW was over the memories still remain.Albahari writes about it. He writes through his father or mother. But, what shall Albahari do now when the civil war in Yugoslavia destroyed the whole new generations! He still writes about his father and mother: the history will be rewinded again! There will be nothing new! The time in Ballkan doesen't exist, and if it does , then it exist differently. Serbs & Croats, Serbs & Muslims, Muslims& Croats, Serbs & Albanians ...they will slaughter each other and there will be nothing new under the Sun ... except the family saga of one Jewish family.

david albahari is Europe's master of the short short story.
the mystery of the word, the tricks of the mind, the lunacy of the everyday is the stuff of Europe's master short short story writer. this is the first translation of david albahari's work into English. he has published 10 collections of short stories and novellas to date and is considered one of the prime writers from the former Yugoslavia. He currently lives in Calgary, Canada, where he came from Belgrade to be Markin-Flanagan distinguished writer in residence in 1995. Of Jewish background, albahari is concerned with the depth and shallowness of human identity and the role that chance plays in survival. with a dark sense of humour and a light sense of tragedy he captures the pain of 20th century existence

Dreams, dreams, dreams....
"America, America" is a rael E. Kazan's masterpiece. It's a story about hope and obsessive dreams, an evocation of the immigration experience in the late 19 th century. "America, America" is a real history of the Kazan's family life. And as he said, of his love and passion to it. For Starvos, a young Greek, America was a land of dreams. Land of great freedom and opportunities. Having suffered persecution in Turkey, he wanted to find his own Eldorado, a place of happiness. The way to it was very long and difficult, not without severe obstacles. It's amazing how much a man can endure to achive what he wants. Pain, poverty and humiliation. He suffered it all. But Starvos'es dream of living in America never died. He never gave up. On his arrival in America, he could say as Caesare had said "vei, vidi, vici". But was he a real winner? Exceeding his limits he has changed. He becam another man. John, as he was called in America, began a new life, a life without Starvos.

Angelic Healing: Working With Your Angels to Heal Your Life

A Christian, Bible-based view of how angels are sent by God
Angelic Healing is a Christian book, not a New Age book. The author is a Christian woman, and her book is based on Biblical principles, without ever being polemical or critical of people who may hold other views. What she has to say about the need for forgiveness and giving up the fear in our lives is very valuable, and the stories of how God sent angels with "healing in their wings" are most inspirational, as is the author's own struggle with cancer. It helped me a lot.

A superb collection!
As part of my effort to learn my role as the dentist in the 1955 version of the play at the local junior college, I read some 14 or 15 books by and about Anne Frank and this one capped my study quite nicely. I recommend it as the one to read after "The Definitive Edition" (or the fascinating "Critical Edition", if you're up to that), Willy Lindwer's "The Last Seven Months", Melissa Muller's "Anne Frank: The Biography", Miep Gies' "Anne Frank Remembered", and Eva Schloss' "Eva's Story". It's scholarly, well edited and footnoted, and has a fine bibliography.

A story about need of love
"Arrangement" is one of the best books by E.Kazan. It's a story about some sort of a system or arrangement, in which we live. A system where a man is only a small cog in the wheel. And one day he matures to change his life, to become individual. Kazan tries to compere things uncomparable, feelings to a person with the wholeness. Eddie has all that he wants. A good wife, beautiful house, car, plum job and all that jazz, wine and dine. Seemingly a wonderful life. One day he meets a woman. He falls in love. She shows him another side of life. Life full of emotions, passion, just utter madness for him. This romance changes his approach to life. Suddenly he can perceive everything from another perspective. He can relish his own life. Unfortunately the system never forgets its men. Eddie must choose between the wife with a comfortable life, and the mistress with freedom and love. His choice is simple - the freedom. But freedom on exile becouse the system doesn't like dissidents. He loses all but has love of his woman. Reading this book one wonders how deep the need for love is. How love can change our lifes. Why people sometimes decides to live against common sense. Maybe that's what it's all about - the power fo love.

darling
This is a must-read for anyone who is looking for a human perspective on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Chacour brings the story of personal pain, struggle and hope to the pages of his book. This book removes the story from the realm of politicians and mass movements and refocusses the story where it should be, on the individuals hurt by and caught in the chaos, tragedy and beauty that make up the story of the Holy Land. It is beautifully and captivatingly written, capturing the spirit of the land and people. It doesn't gloss over the violence, hardship or injustice. Nor does it leave the reader feeling jaded, hopeless, or helpless. I finished with a desire to read more, learn more about both sides of the conflict and its history. Having travelled in that area of the world before the outbreak of the current conflict, I can say that it does a great job of accurately portraying the place, the people, and the spirit that pervades both. Truly an inspiring work!
