Canetti describes his travels as a wealthy spanish jew around many different european countries preceding and during the great war. His fiercely intellectual mother, uber-capitalist uncles, and antisemitic neighbors make for an incredibly interesting portrait.

Touched by Angels is one of those rare books that includes, rather than excludes readers. It isn't polemical or designed to criticize views of angels other than the author's. The author asks important questions like Why are we so interested in angels these days, and Why are the angels so interested in us? and she answers them very cogently. The stories of angelic intervention reflect the experiences of people of all religions and no religion, of white and black and hispanic, of men and women and kids, of people in danger or not. She writes in an easy conversational style that doesn't require a dictionary to understand! The book is great. I recommend it highly.

It's been a while since I remember reading the book. I was a very reluctant reader, but once I got into it, I enjoyed it. The book starts off with a girl who gets into a car accident which changes her life. Very worth reading.

This is a great book about 50's Broadway. I would highly recommend getting this book for your library. Kazan is a wonderful author who is able to paint amazing characters and amazing scenes into each page of his books. The Understudy is one of his best books along with Assassins; I would highly recommend this book.

This book was enjoyable. Marie Hammontree described how a person can be a big success while being a little poor. It shows the ups and downs of Disney's life. She describes what it took to get to the top of his career. This book tells who he was inspired by and how they helped him. She told me his problems in his life and how they were solved. It gave me the puzzle pieces to his life so I could better understand it. All in all I think it was a really informative book.

Kyr Elias Zoghby is a Bishop (retired) of the Melkite Greek-Catholic Church -- one of the Eastern Churches in communion with Rome. Throughout his life, Kyr Elias has been a tireless ecumenist and advocate of closer ties between Eastern Catholics and Orthodox Christians. This book explains in detail his views that (1) the schism between East and West was principally historical and not theological, (2) both the Catholic and the Orthodox Churches are truly the "Church", and (3) the continued separation is not justified by history, theology, or ecclesiology. Kyr Elias proposes a "double communion" in which Greek Catholics and Greek Orthodox would be in communion with both churches, so that the issues that divide the two churches could be worked out in the context of a "lived communion". While his ideas are not uncontroversial, they have formed the basis for the Melkite Church's Synodal declarations of 1995 and 1996, which largely adopted the views expressed in this book. The book also contains a section in which Kyr Elias responds to some of the more common criticisms that have been raised regarding the ideas in this book. This is a book which is intentionally provocative, and one which ought not be missed by anyone interested in the ecumenical issues that separate East and West.

We Belong to the Land offers a perspective to the Palestinian situation that rarely is seen. Abuna Elias Chacour gives a first hand account of the occupation of Palestine by the Zionists from the Palestinian point of view. It was amazing to learn that the Jews were initially welcomed to Palestine by most Palestinians and were not rejected until Palestinian cities were distroyed and Palestinian communities eradicated. Chacour's personal story is the story of Biram, a small Palestinian village that was leveled by the Israeli Army. To this day (or atleast to the time of publication)the people of Biram are forced to live in exile, unable to return to there ancient home. The truely amaxing thing about this story, however, is not the way the Zionists treated the native people like Abuna Chacour, but the great work that he has done to reconcile the Jews and Palestinians. This is a truely uplifting story that shows there is hope for peace in Palestine despite the harsh rule of the Israeli government. A must read for anyone looking for the true story of the modern state of Israel.

I was an avid "New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh" fan as a kid, and this was my favorite of the accompanying books. This very colorful and engaging book told the story of Piglet overcoming his fear of literally being blown away in the wind (because he's such a small animal!) to help his best friend, Pooh.

Fr. Elias Chacour is a champion of the Arab-Israeli peace process. His book, Blood Brothers, challenges the reader to analyze his own feelings and assumptions about Palestinians, Jews, and Israel. The book also gives the reader a very personal look at the history and drama surrounding the Palestinian Christian people. Their story is one of great sorrow that is seldom seen or heard in newspapers and television. Any person interested in the Arab-Israeli peace process should read this book.

This book is a very touching recount of the life of a Palestinian Arab and his memories of being expelled from his village when the Jews took over Israel and the hardships that took on his life after the fact. While Chacour does give these painful accounts of the life he has had to face, he in no way is bitter or hateful because of them. On the contrary, he offers possible solutions to the conflicts while explaining his side of the story and providing a great deal of history. Chacour tells his readers about the prejudices that were placed against him by the Jews in Israel and Europeans or all religions. He was made to leave the home he and his family had known for thousands of years and then had to read in history books that it never happened! He explains how these experiences led him to God. The story then moves on to explaining his struggles with the Israeli government to gain rights for his people.

I have had the extreme honor of meeting Elias Chacour after I read this book. I stayed with him in his village of Ibillin in Galilee. While there we spoke every evening, often late into the night about the struggles and hardships that both sides have faced in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He is very committed to doing everything he can to better his people's situations while also defending the Jews and their claim to the land as well. He in no way is anti-Israel, or anti-Jew. As he says, we all come from the same God, from the same Mother and Father, and from the same land.

I saw the ruins of his village, which he is not allowed to move back to. I saw the graves of his mother and father. I saw the church that he describes so well as the place that saved him. But, more importantly, I saw a new side of this conflict. I no longer saw the Arabs as savages and terrorists that were trying to steal the land from the Jews, but rather as a race of people who is enduring the same oppression that the Jews faced for centuries.

Elias Chacour is a holy man who just wants peace between these two races. This book is telling a side of the story that so often is hidden from the Western World. If you a person who is interested in opening his/her eyes to the real issues that are stopping peace from becoming reality and not just an ideal - then you need to read this book.

I would recommend this book to everybody. It gives us a fair, and much needed, insight into the Palestinian Christian perspective within the greater framework of the Middle East conflict. The personal testimony and example that Elias Chacour gives us is compelling and convicting. What if we all started to act with the faith, love and renconcilation Elias promotes in this inspiring account of his life.
This is a must for anyone wanting to learn about how a Christian (or anyone with a humanitarian worldview) should respond to conflict and crisis.
