Makeover, modeling, ad nauseatum...
The part that caught my attention was when the Fabulous Five feel sorry for Mona, who seems gloomy and is often treated like an outcast. Taffy pretends to be her friend at times, then dumps her cruelly. Well...the Fab Five think that Mona's troubles are wrapped up in her "homely" appearance and plain clothes. I don't blame Mona for not wanting to be a "charity case." I wish Betsy Haynes had written a book specifically about Mona because Mona reminds me of Mary Anne Spier from the Baby-Sitters' Club series. The stupid thing is that the Fabulous Five do butter up Mona and win her over and when they do, they invite her over to Jana's apartment and give her a makeover as if that would solve Mona's self-esteem troubles. I was touched when the Fabulous Five discover that Mona entertains animals at the animal shelter. Mona should be developed more as a character and a person. I have the feeling Mona would fit in better with the Baby-Sitters' Club than the Fabulous Five.

What's Taffy up to now?
The Fab Five are upset when they see their bff Melanie spending a lot of her time with their worst enemy, Taffy Sinclair. And when Mel talks them all into entering a modeling class, the Fab Five get even more angry when Taffy and melanie start spending even more time together and getting special treatment for the celebrity teacher. Yeah, I didn't like how the Fab Five buttered Mona up so that mel would get jealous, but the Fab Five do realize after a short time what a terrific person Mona is and that she's really someone they want to spend time with. Of course, everything works out in the end and I thought this was a really good book.

Hardly worth the paper it's printed on
Kind of a pre-teen trashy romance. Come on...the title "Boy Talk" speaks for itself. Also stupid is how Alison is painted as this all-evil villian and Crystal is a all-good "pure" girl who flatters Evan to get him to ask her out. Does Crystal think to ask Evan out? NOOOO! She hangs around playing games hoping to "make" Evan notice her. Get real lives, Florida beach Boy Talk Air Bubbles!

Pretty coool
Let's just say i feel for Crystal. i mean, imagine this guy you know so long is your crush. Are you really going to ask him out?? You might lose your friendship with the guy!!!!! So I'm glad Betsy Haynes wrote this book. I love this series!!

It started to be good...
Almost good...but why did the normally sensible, mature Katie have to think that her mother needed a BOYFRIEND to liven up her life? Yes, Willie was a bit bored, but maybe Katie could have done better to look up a club or group that shared Willie's interest in historical exhibits. One good thing was that Willie ended up with Mark Dracovitch, the science teacher that the kids at Wakeman had prejudged as "weird." I liked how Willie & eventually Katie saw through that & got to know him. The kids' letter-writing crusade to improve the cafeteria food was a good idea, but why in the universe of stars & planets did Betsy Haynes have to skewer the kids involved to SEVENTEEN boys & only NINE girls? What would have been better is to have the kids involved be roughly even boys & girls. I got the feeling that even in the class that Willie taught, the boys dominated the class discussions. Wakeman & most of the Fab Five series seems to be too male-dominated in these books that are supposed to be about girls.

Okay, not the most enthralling....
Now that Katie is realizing SOME boys aren't too bad, she feels bad that her mom doesn't have a more 'exciting life'. So, whenever her mom comes to do a special writing workshop at Katie's school, Katie tries to set her up with a single man teacher. Unfortunatly for Katie, her mom takes interest in the 'weirdest' teacher at school! I liked this book because Katie realizes that just because a lot of other people may say someone is weird, it doesn't mean they are, and she learns to mind her own buisness and not bother with trying to set her mom up. This was not that exciting, I thought, but others might think differently.

Interesting view of the pressure to "pair off"
I think a more appropriate title would be more in the realm of "the pair off pressure." Many girls don't date in middle and high school, but the pressure on them to get a boyfriend is strong. I identified with Christie especially in the part where she decides she doesn't want to be tied down with a steady boyfriend, but her friends just don't understand and start talking about who they're going to the movies with Friday, making Christie feel like an oddball. Especially Jana and Melanie often act as if there's something wrong with a girl who's not ready to date. Also, to make matters worse, Wakeman tends to be male-oriented, often showing girls cheering the boys on at the football games, but not vice-versa. We can hope Wakeman catches up to the BSC's Stoneybrook and grows up.

Pretty un-realistic....
Okay, in this book, the 7th grade is supposed to be doing a study on their families and stuff. Well, when Melanie starts, she finds letters her mom wrote to her grandma when Melanie was born, that said Mel was sort of a mistake and that they hadn't wanted a child so soon! Melanie doesn't read the rest of the letter though, and is positive her parents don't really love her, and that she ruined the chance of a great career for her mom. Meanwhile, Mel is also worked up because the boys she likes are ignoring her and she is worried they don't like her for some reason. I think that part is soo stupid. Why in the world would someone get so worked up about some boys not paying attention to you? This book is not really a 'must-read' in this series.

Kinda boring...
I like reading all the Fab. Five books, but this one was pretty boring. Melanie's mother buys a van and starts taxiing kids to and from Mel's school. Melanie is mad because her mom makes her go along everytime and miss out on Bumpers which everyone at school goes to EVERY day, and then her mom is trying to sell their puppies...it's okay, just not my favorite.

Really...Geena needs "lessons" on "being a girl"?
Another lame popularity and look-good game. Poor Geena is growing up without a mother in a houseful of boys. Jana and Mr. McNatt believe that the reason Geena is a bully is because she needs to learn to "be a girl"...in other words, wear makeup, style her hair, be more helpless and less strong-willed...ad nauseatum. I think Geena felt powerless as it was and needed a strong mother figure in her life to show her how to be assertive in productive ways, not have Jana and her mother wheedle Geena into CLOTHES shopping for more "feminine" outfits. I can imagine Geena's self-esteem slipping even further. Is this a lesson we want to give our daughters?

Really...Geena needs "lessons" on "being a girl?"
Another lame popularity and look-good game. Poor Geena is growing up without a mother in a houseful of boys. Jana and Mr. McNatt believe that the reason Geena is a bully is because she needs to learn to "be a girl"...in other words, wear makeup, fix her hair, be more helpless and less strong-willed...ad nauseatum. I think Geena felt powerless as it was and needed a strong mother figure in her life to show her how to be assertive in productive ways, not have Jana and her mother wheedle Geena into CLOTHES shopping for more "feminine" THE END

Jana is fed-up...
I thought this book was really good, mainly because Jana learns that instead of immediatly assuming a person is a certain way, if you take a closer look, you'll see how different things can be. I did think it was a little dumb for a school to have a 'popularity' contest- I mean, is that what we're trying to promote in schools? I did think, though, it was nice that Jana and her mother wanted to help Geena buy some more feminine clothes, etc. What Geena needed was a good friend who was a girl, and I think Jana will be that person.

Perfect... for a sleeping pill
Well, I didn't like it at all. It wasn't like any of the others. There was no surprise ending and I really hate that. The only time to read it would be in bed when you're trying to fall asleep

I do not think this book was fun to read.
I didn't like this book. I read just to see what it was about. I think that people have different opinions and just because one person dosen't like this book it doesn't mean that you shouldn't read this particular book. My opinion was that it wasn't one of those books you can't put down!
