I didn't really like it...
I'm putting three stars, even though I didn't really care for this book- I just like the Fabulous Series. One reason I didn't like this book was about how hyper Katie got when the boys started a club without the girls. HELLOOO!!!!??? That is not against the law! It's not the boys are x-cluding the girls, it's just that they want some time to themselves. There is nothing wrong with that. Another reason I didn't like it was because I don't really like Katie. I cannot understand why everyone is so nuts about Christie and Katie and Whitney and Mona!!!! Katie is too sexist for her own good. She thinks it's a crime for boys to open doors for girls. Hasn't she ever heard of good manners?? Mona and Whitney are okay, but they certainly aren't as good of characters as Jana and Melanie, who happen to be my favorites. (well, actually Jana) Christie is okay, she's smart and stands up for herself, but she doesn't seem for exciting and always is feeling sorry for herself. And everyone who writes reviews gets all worked up because Jana and Randy date through practically the whole series. I think that's cool, even though it might not be very realistic. Anyway, I wish Mrs. Haynes would write a new series about the Fab Five in the eighth grade!! The characters she should really develop more are of course the whole Fab Five (especially Jana, I think she has the most depth), Randy Kirwan, Shane Arrington, Alexis Duvall and maybe Mona Vaughn. PLEASE WRITE AGAIN BETSY!! I LOVE YOUR BOOKS!!!

Not the best in series, but good
I absolutly love all the fabulous five books!! I am so sad they are out of print and I can't find them anywhere! :*( I think this was a good book, except Katie got to hyper when the boys started a club just for themselves. I don't see anything wrong with that, except that the girls all go crazy without any boys around!! That is totally dumb- you do not need boys to have fun.

Katie's not going to let the boys get away with THIS one..
Katie Shannon is FURIOUS when she hears that the boys at Wacko have started a computer club- a BOYS ONLY club! Male-only clubs went out with the caveman, and katie's not about ready to be told she can't do anything. She wants to do something about it, get girls more involved and treated like the first class citizens they are. But none of the other girls care! I mean, she has to pull even the Fab Five's arms to get them interested in starting like, say an all girls club. Then Katie gets some unexpected help from a person of the past- can Katie really make a difference or is she doing all this in vain? This is the best book from Katie's POV. I think it's dumb that she gets so uptight about the guys getting together without the girls, but I also think it's dumb how the lives of the other girls revolve around their crushes and b/fs.

Beth = Bigmouth?
Beth Barry is furious that everyone is awed by snooty Laura McCall's bragging. And no one's paying any attention to the Fab Five, not even their old friends from Mark Twain! So she decides that whatever Laura brags about next, she's going to top. Only all her plans backfire and instead of great, the Fab Five is starting to become laughingstocks, especially Beth. But Beth still hasn't learned her lesson and she pulls the biggest brag of all- only it's TOTALLY not true! And if she can't pull it off, the Fab Five is DONE FOR. Who will the Great Bragging War?? Find out in this book!

Another good book in this series
This was not one of my favorite books in this series, but it was still good!! I can feel for the Fabulous Five when all their old friends start deserting them for the Fantastic Foursome, though I think Beth got too upset. I thought it was true to life how Beth's lies all just started coming out too fast and how accidently she kept putting her friends on the spot. I recommend this whole series to girls out there- so they are not exactly like the girls in BSC, not every girl is the same.

The Truth About Taffy Sinclair

Being pretty ISN'T all it's cracked up to be...
I feel kind of sorry for Taffy, even though she gets snobby at times. The book is a good illustration that, no, pretty girls aren't very lucky. Taffy's very lonely and all the girls except Mona are jealous of Taffy and on top of that the Fabulous Five are MEAN to her, teasing her about her stolen diary and whispering about her behind her back. And to make matters worse, her mother isn't very understanding and trivializes her feelings and is pressuring her to win a part in a commercial. Taffy, however needs to wake up and realize what a wonderful friend Mona is and not be embarrassed to be with her. Who cares if someone wears bummy jeans and old sweatshirts as long as they're loyal, kind, intelligent? Kristy and Mary Anne from the BSC series don't! I liked how Mona was concerned about Taffy's lost diary and tried to find out if the Fabulous Five had taken it. I think the crass stupidity between Jana and Taffy bothered Mona. Also, Taffy didn't really help her case by flirting with Jana's boyfriend Randy and fanning Jana's immature jealousy. Taffy needs a circle of supportive female friends, but it doesn't look as if she'll find it among some of the immature kids at her school.

This is a must-read if you've read the other Taffy books!
Finally, we get to hear Taffy's side! I feel bad for her sometimes, but she puts it all on herself. I think she could be very nice if she'd quit worrying about her looks and clothes and stuff and started being a real friend to the people who admired her, namely Mona. I thought the Fab. Five were a little mean to her, but then, she is often meaner then that to them, so it didn't bother me to much. This is a good book.

Being Yourself
"Faking It" is part of the "Fifteen" series from the mid eighties. The books were written by different authors, and loosely tied together by having the characters in each book attend the same high school. The protaganist was always a fifteen year old girl facing typical adolescent problems such as fitting in, crushes on boys, relationships with parents, and self image. There were only six books in the series, which is a shame because they were always interesting and well written. In "Faking It", Lori is virtually abandoned by her best friend Monica, when Monica finds a boyfriend. They've always done everything together and never needed anyone else. Now Lori has no one, so she decides to find a new best friend to take Monica's place. She chooses two possible "candidates", based soley on their popularity: Jodi, the school jock, and Hildy, a wild punk rock girl. Deciding that the best way to win the girls' friendship is to have something in common with them, Lori then goes about trying to make herself over into something she's not, or rather two things she's not, a jock when she's with Jodi and a party girl for Hildy. For several weeks, Lori juggles her two new, completely separate images, doing things she doesn't enjoy (such as five mile runs followed by a yogurt lunch and "borrowing" a car to TP a boys house) to impress her new friends. Eventually, she realizes that friends don't have to be clones of each other, and friendships don't need to be exclusive. Though this series is out of print, the themes are still relevant for teens today.

Her Honor, Katie Shannon (72)

This is a pretty good one...
Katie Shannon is not my favorite of the Fabulous Five, but this was a pretty good book. Mainly it's about how Katie wants to join the school's Teen Court, which 'judges' kids who get detention and teaches them about the judicial system. Katie makes the team, but her first case involves the boyfriends of Jana and Beth, two of her best friends! I think it's cool how she handeled it, but I can also see Jana and Beth's point of view too. Katie also has to put up with a lot of rap from the boys at school because she's such a feminest. And things really get crazy when she gets a crush on the school's biggest 'macho man'! This one you should probably read if you plan on reading a lot of Fab. Five books. PLEASE COME BACK IN PRINT!! YOU WOULD PLEASE SO MANY!!!! And I would like to please ask the girls who are so loyal to BSC not to dis this series so much. I know they act different then the girls in BSC, but I think one of the coolest things about American Girls is that we are all different.

Melanie feels left out....
Melanie thought she'd love being in Jr. High, but all her friends are in so many activities, she feels they don't care about what SHE'S doing and all they do is talk about stuff they're up to. So she decides to snub them and get popular so that they'll be jealous. Of course, her way of doing it, is to get popular boys in school to like her. Then, two of them kiss her, and she starts spreading it around. A lot of girls are jealous, until Mel gets mono or 'the kissing disease'. I think this part is silly because when she goes back to school, no one wants to be near her because they're afraid she'll get it, even the boys who supposedly 'like her'. Things turn out in the end, and I enjoyed reading this book, though I thought the plot was a little silly.

This was fairly entertaining
In this one, Melanie has decided Shane is really the one for her, and is trying to figure out how to tell her old boyfriend she wants to break up, but nicely. Plus, a big Valentine's Day dance is coming up, and she wants Shane to ask her. Meanwhile, her hip grandma is coming to visit and she wants all her friends to make a good impression on her. Things get REALLY mixed up, though, and Melanie is horrified! Will she end up with the wrong valentine?
