Excellent Intro to Design for the Fine Artist
A wonderful tool for pictorial creation or analysis
Ms. Roberts has written a must-read tutorial for budding artists that also is inspirational for those who have been at it awhile. The book thoroughly explores the elements of pictorial design, using examples from the masters to illustrate the principles, without resorting to excessive text. A wonderful tool; I wish I had had it forty years ago.

Great book for art history classes
Perfect for writing critiques and analyses from all art movements. Great glossary of terms for a beginning art student looking up hard-to-understand words in text books.
Great for art history students!
A glossary of art terms. This book is a definite must for those writing analyses of art. It's also good for looking up those tricky terms in your text books. It is filled with artsy terms and illustrations. I used it in all my art history classes.

easy to get into
This is a really good book. It gives tips and insights that really opened my eyes. Its made going to antique shops and auctions less a matter of blind trust and more an actvity in deriving the history. Some really interesting frauds are out there and this book can help you separate the old stuff from the "created" from the replicas so you can make up your mind on what you want. (Some of the created items are neat but its good to know they may not have started out as one piece)
BEST HANDBOOK YET WRITTEN ABOUT COLLECTING FURNITURE
Assume nothing is a must read for any serious collector of pre-victorian furniture. Mr. Weinhagen is a proven expert and his book is a priceless guide filled with a lifetime of tips and tools to properly evaluate potential purchases. This book will educate you faster and make you want to learn more. His case studies are excellent and highly practical.Five stars all the way!!!

Best resource out there
I had to purchase this book when I was in college. I thought it odd when I picked it up. The book is a wonderful resource. I had Dr. Perrin as a professor and he is as down to earth and easy to understand as this book. Now that I am a teacher I use the book all the time. It is especially great when you need to find something quickly. This book is never too far out of my reach.
A gold mine
One of the finest, most comprehensive, and easiest-to-use guidebooks on the market, updated with concise direction in dealing with documentation of the newest forms of media. Helped me through four years of college, three years as a high school English teacher (where my students used it more than I did), and now as a manager with an internet company. Highly recommended!

Displays Accurate Information about the 1987 Soap!
This book is the best! I am not just saying that because I like the soap, I am saying that because I thought that book displayed all accurate and useful information about the soap that started in March of 1987. I caught up on the storyline and what happened in the beginning because of this book and I think any BB fan should buy this book!
a must have for any fan
i feel any fan of the show should have this book. if you have been watching the show since the beginning you'll find it's nice to read on the characters or storylines you might have forgotten. if you haven't been watching since the beginning it's a nice history lesson about the show. it also has all the major fashion shows. what i like about it is it is divided in years and by the characters. so if you're looking for a particular storyline they are easy to find. but it is a great book for fans. it has a lot of nice stuff about the character, stars, and behind the scenes.

worth every cent I paid
I have only watched the Bold and the Beautiful since about 1996, that was when I learn't how to video record for when I was at work. This book is a wonderfully comprehensive guide to all things B&B. It starts from 1987, including how the cast were picked and hired. It begins with the Ridge/Caroline/Brooke triangle that leads to many intricately woven triangles. It has at the heart, the fashion industry with Eric and Stephanie Forrester, the owners of one fashion house. Their rivals are the Spectra's, lead by Sally with her daughter Macy and secretary Darla, working side by side with her. The love lives and rivalries of these 2 families are the main stories of this show. The book has beautiful colour photo's of the weddings, and behind the scenes happenings of various storylines are told at great length. For instance, did you know that the Rodney King racial riots broke out the same day as the Ridge and Taylor wedding? They couldn't wait to get home, they were really worried about their friends and family. Ridge and Taylor will always be my favourite couple, and their wedding photo's and bio's just make me love them more. At the very beginning of the book, it talks about the cast and crew and what they have done before. It shows the guest stars on the show, and even the different awards the stars have won in different years. The only flaw in the book is it is rather heavy, but is bound in a beautiful black cover. The cover has the photo's from the start of the show and will one day be a collectors item. It was written by Robert Waldron, who reports for our Australian magazine "TV Soap". He is an expert on a lot of TV Soaps and I hope he writes another one. All in all it was worth every cent I paid. 10 out of 10.

Greatissimo!
I managed to get the book at amazon although it was already out of print. It costed me a lot, but it was worth it. The B&B book is full of nice pics and many stories, also a detailed summary of what had happened from 87 to 96.

A must have for the Meissen collector.
The best reference book on Meissen I have in my collection. The detailed chapter on marks, both fake and true, has proven invaluable. Buy the book you won't regret it.
Simply the best book in English dealing with Meissen.
This is simply the best book on Meissen porcelain in the English language. Rontgen covers the history of the firm, including information concerning Meissen during the time of the GDR. Photographs, including many in color, make this an important contribution to art literature.

Very useful and pleasant reading
Bob Papper sent me a copy of his book after it was published in 1994. I enjoyed reading it, recognized many of the valuable lessons he taught me and the other students at The American University School of Communication back in the early 80's, and felt inspired to continue on the path cleared for us by this great Journalism teacher and broadcasting consultant. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to know anything about the subject.
Very Useful Book
I was a student of Bob Papper's at Ball State University and was among the first classes to use this book. Today, I'm a television news producer in a top 50 market, and I still refer to it often. It's easy to read, straight-forward style makes it ideal for students or professionals wanting to brush up on their technique. I am constantly lending it out to other producers and reporters in my shop

A wonderful short introduction to Tibetan Buddhism
I'm not a practicing Tibetan Buddhist, but I've acquired a fair amount of knowledge through osmosis: I do volunteer work for a Tibetan refugee relief organization. One slow afternoon in our shop, I picked up this book to improve my knowledge of the iconography in the graphics we sell, and was blown away. Not only has the author written a clear, readable explication of the symbolism, but the book is also a terrific introduction to fundamental Tibetan Buddhist beliefs. The average Tibetan may not be able to elucidate the intricacies of the sacred texts, or practice the stylized form of debate that forms an important part of a monk's training. But the book gives great insight into what this average Tibetan actually believes. Now I feel I have a better understanding of how the Tibetans' Buddhism has sustained them through persecution, exile, and attempts by the Chinese government to stamp out their culture. (And the Fur-Bearing Fish isn't a refugee from a Dr. Seuss book, but a symbol with profound meaning.) This is a great little book, and I recommend it enthusiastically.
UNDERSTANDABLE
I'm 52 years old and was fairly smug about what I had learned after 20 years or so of pretty serious reading. Then into my life, through the miracle of "amazon.comm" comes by Dagyab Rinpoche: hold on to your beliefs folks: get ready for a roller-coaster ride through Tibetan philosophy as translated from that philosophical language: German. And at the end there are instructions on how to take care of and treat the book and other books of similar nature. Scary
Ceramics in America (Ceramics in America 2001)
Published in Paperback by University Press of New England (2001)

5 stars
"Ceramics in America" is a wonderful publication. For the first volume of this journal, it is very well put together. The journal has lots of information on ceramics made and used in America. It is very helpful to those who are not very familiar with American ceramics.
A finely crafted volume
This book is a must-have for ceramics enthusuasts! Having worked with historic ceramics for several years, I was familiar with many of the authors selected to write for the first "Ceramics in America" monograph. As much as I eagerly anticipated the work, I was not prepared for the level of excellence which has been achieved here. This volume contains cutting-edge ceramics research, illustrated with the latest in pottery technology and documentary history of the field. I was particularly impressed with two articles highlighting pottery techniques: the submission by Don Carpentier and Jonathan Rickard on annular or "dipt" wares, and also the work of team Michelle Erickson/Rob Hunter, who demonstrate early English slipwares production. This is yet another triumph for the Chipstone Foundation, who has successfully sponsored Luke Beckerdite's "American Furniture" series for years. This book is very highly recommended for archaeologists, collectors, curators, and other material culture specialists.

It is not at all prescriptive like some older books on composition, but provides valuable insights into "the artist's design".
