I had the first edition of this dictionary back when I took high school Spanish in the 1970's. I loved it then, and when I recently made the decision to take up this beautiful language again, I picked this dictionary from among several choices.
This is an essential reference addition for anyone learning Spanish, whether on your own, or as part of a class.

I especially appreciated how the book tries to eliminate traditional but useless examination maneuvers and tries to clarify sensitivity and specificity of the usefull ones.
You will indeed discover dozens of usefull examination hints and secrets you absolutely don't know (unless you are Mangione).
It is also written in a pleasant and amusing way.
I will never sell mine.

Instead of one central character, there are several, all of which the reader will feel like he knows personally very early in the book. I would give most anything if this book could be made into a movie, but the only way to do it justice would be to make it multi-part mini-series with Ken Follett writing the screenplay, and even then it would not have the same effect.
Obviously, I give this book my absolute highest recommendation. So, don't wait, buy this book right now and plan on losing some sleep, because you won't be able to put it down !!!

I guess that the pictures help reinforce the learning process, but that's not what makes this book great. It's the grouping of the ideas on the page that makes it so comprehensible. Not only do the "lessons" logically progress, each one also stands on its own as a useful learning experience. This confirms the author's claim that each page is a lesson unto itself.
The book has a pronunciation guide, a limited but useful index, and a small Italian to English dictionary. There are also a number of "Everyday Expressions," that are just what the doctor ordered.
This is a "must have" book. Yes, you may quickly outgrow it, but you will find yourself referring to it often as you continue your studies.

The second book shows how Drizzit rejected his society and struck out on his own. However, his race is so widely hated that finding acceptance was quite difficult. Indeed, this theme continues to be of importance in this novel and in "The Crystal Shard" (book 1 of the Icewind Dale Trilogy).
The reason I liked this novel was for the final change in scenery; Drizzit finally emerges from the Underdark to see the daylight. He finally finds some measure of acceptance in this world; but it is hard won and not without misunderstandings. Indeed, this novel brings back the inner turmoil that is a feature of many of Salvatore's protagonists. Dealing with violence continues to be a problem for Drizzit. When should he use his swords? Why does he still feel guilty if he kills someone in the name of self-defence?
As I mentioned in my review of "Exile," there are typical fantasy elements in this novel in addition to Drizzit's problems and struggles. There are battles, fantastic monsters and other such staples of the fantasy genre. While reading these novels is enjoyable, I've been looking for something that it is in the same epic vein as, "The Lord of the Rings." I remain open to recommendations.
The series was reasonably interesting. This is my eighth Salvatore novel that I've read in recent months. I've started the Icewind Dale Trilogy, but I don't know how much of it I will read. I may switch to reading a different genre for a while for variety.

The novel, about the childhood and past of one of the Forgotten Realms' most beloved characters, Drizzt Do'Urden, is a novel of intense passion, of intense inner turmoil, of intense character. It's a prequel to the The Icewind Dale Trilogy and explains why Drizzt is the way he is - stoic and burdened yet content and happy with his life. The storyline and plot are solid and phenomenally detailed as is the character development. The descriptions of the settings, the characters, the battles, the _emotions_ create a novel that is gripping and exciting, while at the same time conveying a feeling of reflection and self-examination. Through his use of amazing detail, Mr. Salvatore allows the reader to feel Drizzt's pains, his triumphs, and his insatiable search for something good in his life.
This is a complete novel; all aspects work well together and create a timeless Forgotten Realms story that is enjoyable on many levels. I highly recommend this book and consider it Mr. Salvatore's best novel.
