A Yankee fan's dream
This book is a Yankee fans dream because it chronicles the historic success of the greatest franchise in sports history. But what makes this book special is that it is unlike most Yankee books, of which there are literally hundreds. The story of the Yankees is told by a fictional character created by the author, a man who has personally witnessed all 26 of the Yankees' World Series championships. The character, named Joseph Kimmerle, was born and raised in the Bronx and lived across the street from where Yankee Stadium was built in the early 1920s. His father becomes friends with Babe Ruth, and through that connection, young Joseph Kimmerle gets a job with the Yankees as a bat boy and later as a clubhouse assistant. He ultimately covers the team as a sports writer for 45 years, and late in life he serves as a personal confidant to Yankee manager Joe Torre, whom he has known since Torre was a teenager growing up in Brooklyn. All of the facts and game accounts in the book are real, and Kimmerle is fictionally and ingeniously woven into the story. If you weren't warned on the title page that Kimmerle was a fictional character, you would certainly believe he was a real person, so artfully crafted is his character. This was one of the most enjoyable baseball reads I have encountered, and I highly recommend it, especially for Yankee fans looking for an interesting twist on their team's history.

Mitochondrial DNA in Human Pathology

Amazon base price: $58.00

comprehensive text on clinical and molecular genetic aspects
This is an excellent text, for both post-graduate students and teachers (both science and clinical), of mitochondrial disorders. It covers the entire range of mtDNA disorders, as well as equip the novice in the field with all the necessary information to embark on one of the greatest challenges in molecular genetics - to characterise mtDNA disorders on the nucleotide level. An absolute MUST HAVE. Besides, any text that Wallace was involved in, is worth reading!

Horrid cover hides a real gem!
If you are lucky enough to find a copy of this book, don't let the awful cover turn you off. Inside you'll find a series of short stores that form a complete novel, and in those stories some excellent prose. Vivid with exasperation is the woman who is underwhelmed by her co-worker's stated tolerence for her lesbianism right after she has just been asked to applaud madly for her co-worker's engagement. Torn with anger is the daughter who refuses to comfort her religious father with the words that "Jesus forgave Judas" because she can't bring herself to compare her life and her partner to a traitor. Confused is the ex-husband who doesn't understand why his wife has taken up with another woman. Deeply in love are women at the center of the novel. Each story is a piece of a mosaic and the whole captures the range of lesbian lives with insight and feeling.

One of Our Own is One of the Best!
Truly one of the best lesbian fiction's I have read to date. Diane Salvatore has the ability to reach many emotions...all at once. Her characters are alive with passion, excitement and a realistic view of the world in which we live. She writes in such a way that it was impossible not to be captivated by their lives and how they were unfolding. It sounds cliche but I could not put it down and was sad when I got to the end. I have lent this to many friends and each of them found it to be extremely enjoyable...I hope you do also!

Excellent review of personology !
In this comprehensive and voluminous tome, Salvatore Maddi presents what must be the seminal review of personality psychology today.

This book does not only present fair and detailed accounts of various theories of personality, but also succeeds in capturing the reader's imagination and truly represents personology as a fascinating and uplifting discipline.

Additionally, the second section of Maddi's work features discussions of empirical and rational support for various theories, as seen from within the author's proposed conceptual framework for clarifying personality theory.

This book is an indispensable guide for all students of Psychology or Philosophy
