The Best
This is the best pizza book. I was in italy all summer, checked out the bookstores there for the best pizza book. This is it! Other books are junk, and tell you combinations of toppings and junk to put on pizza, without even telling you how to make dough or sauce, what a waste! Make your own dough, make your own pizza! GOOOD!

Nice pictures too.

Challanging Simplicity
The challange of Br. Lawrence's spirituality is its simplicity. The reader is presented with a common sense approach to the spiritual life the carries a great challange. The idea of carrying on an on going conversation with God wherever we find ourselves is the heart of this spirituality. The challange comes in when we attempt this in a world filled with distractions. This particular translation gives the reader more insight into the living out of "the Practice of the Presence of God." I find it a good source for those seeking a way to draw clser to God.

A Christmas delight and keeper - superior efforts
I am working my way through a little horde of Regency Christmas anthologies, savouring them one at a time. I picked this one up whilst on holiday recently and just read it; what a pleasure it was! I don't ordinarly seek out short stories as a matter of course but I am very fond of this particular little mini sub-genre. Three of the contributions stood out for me.

"The Rake's Christmas" by Edith Layton is the poignant story of a young man, back from the Peninsular wars, saddened and a little self loathing, who throws himself into some half-hearted rakery in order to put the wars behind him. He is taken up by a truly accomplished rake, Lord Shelton. During a Christmas house party, the elder rake plays deus ex machina to young Ian, Viscount Hunt in order to bring him together with Miss Eve Thompkins. Eve is the daughter Shelton never had - the offspring of his true life-long secret and unrequited love. So, he stands in an almost fatherly way over Hunt, helping him to overcome his sombre loneliness and sad boyhood in making a match for him and Eve. Edith Layton is a favourite of mine and she packs a lot of emotion into just a few short pages.

Jo Beverley is a writer whose books I have been collecting with the aim of indulging myself. Why she and Layton and Balogh are not published in the UK is beyone my comprehension - such a shame! I was delighted with her contribution to this anthology. "A Mummer's Play" is the story of Col "Lucky Jack" Beaufort, by default the new Duke of Cranmoore. Justina Travers lost her fiance in the Peninsula when he was under the command of his close friend, Jack. Justina has some reason to suspect that Cranmoore may have been a traitor and, therefore, the cause of her fiance's death. She insinuates herself into Jack's first Christmas house party as the new duke by hiding herself amongst the mummers who come to perform. Her aim is to expose him as a traitor and murderer. The story takes place during the course of just one evening and, in just a few intense, emotional pages, Jo Beverley brings an almost unbearably high degree of tension and emotion as these two lonely, hurt but passionate people find an extraordinary and unexpected love and mutual redemption. Simply excellent.

Mary Balogh's contribution is, as always, as near to perfection as you can get. Hers is the story of three young orphaned children whose wastrel parents largely ignored them. Their maternal uncle, Viscount Morsey, and paternal aunt, Lady Carlyle, reluctantly leave London to come to the depths of the countryside to "do their duty" and make some half-hearted provision for their upbringing. It emerges that the two adults were once engaged but huge family problems, anger and recriminations tore them apart. The story is largely told through the eyes of the children and the theme of the story, as Lady Carlyle discovers, is that Christmas is about birth, parenthood, love, hope and commitment. In the context of this very brief piece, all five players find themselves turned into a loving family. Mary Balogh is pure magic. She writes such poignant, moving and emotional stories which are refined to pure gold. Wonderful.

Do find yourself a second hand copy of this anthology; reading it is simply a pleasure worth the effort.

Brilliant!
I am not familiar with three of the gentlemen who are responsible for this book, but I am fortunate to have known one of them: Dr. Sal Primeggia. I was privileged to take his course, THE ITALIAN AMERICAN EXPERIENCE in college in the 1980's. An extraordinary course delivered with intense passion and conviction by a very extraordinary man.

I congratulate Dr. Primeggia and his fellow scholars on this wonderful piece of work, and encourage readers, especially Italian-Americans (although let's not limit it there), to devour this awesome book.

I hope Dr. Primeggia sees this review because I want to tell him in this rather public forum that those who have participated in the aforementioned course shall never forget his words and his lessons. Many generations of students owe him a tremendous debt of gratitude for what he has given and indeed continues to give.

What a legacy to leave behind. Thank you, Dr. Primeggia!

a refreshing look at tradition, family, and love
Modern poetry often becomes so nostalgic that it loses perspective and quite often sounds like self emulation. When one is fortunate enough to encounter a contemporary poet who gathers memories and plants them for all of us to share, without being so general that there is no connection to past or present, it is illuminating to know that readers can identify with those same experiences, even though they may be distant from our own. Mary frances Wagner ties us to the experince of being a daughter, a cousin, a friend, and enables us to share the immigrant's daughter's love of nationality, of race and of gender. In "Thanksgiving Dinner" the writer's technique of capturing through what is not said the essence of what is becomes so artisitc that very few writers will ever do it better. The absence of comment is paralleled by the structure and development of the poem. Such technique is very rare in today's poetry. This book of poetry is a salute to a presence that will always be evident in her life. Through the use of the senses Maryfrances enables the reader to experience the loss and the love that prompted this book..."Yesterday I packed/a dozen black sacks/set them by the curb,/one heartload at a time." captures the loss of a loved one. "Of a thousand hands/I would know my father's/long fingers shaped like oars,/the index scar/the flat, grooved nails,/hands that fixed the doll's arm,/meded Whisker's ear, checked homework." are lines from the poem "Hands" that capture the life of the loved one. This excellent collection of poems is for those who have loved a family, have shared a loss, have retained the love. As poetry it is excellent in form, style, and development. Those who read for enlightenment will enjoy this book. Those who read for illumination into the art of excellent poetry will learn. Enjoy.

very useful tool for intermediate or 400 level micro
Whether you need to use this to get through ECON 300 or a more advanced econ class this is a very useful how-to guide. There is little discussion of theory and no yakking -- just straightforward microeconomic problems and parables. Use it for review or to get you through your final exam. Very helpful and much clearer than your textbook.

It got me through Econometrics
This was an extremely useful book for the understanding of Statistics and Econometrics. Each topic had examples to show how the formulas work. The computer chapter went over the programming in SAS, Excel, and Eviews for the problems in the book. Best of all, the problems had answers. This is a must-have for beginning statistics and econometrics since it starts from scratch, and for theory students in search of an application.

Successful Software Reengineering

Excellent secondary resource - covers wide range of topics
The 21 essays that comprise this book cover the full spectrum of software reengineering, with a marked emphasis on computer-aided software engineering and software reuse. This is not a primary resource for hand's on techniques, but is an invaluable collection of papers for software engineering process practitioners who are interested in up-to-date research in software reengineering.

Coverage includes:
Computer-Aided Software Engineering - CASE conceptual models, future directions in CASE repositories, Architecture and Implementation Issues for Upper CASE, and auditing CASE environments.

Reuse - achieving effective software reuse for business systems, enhancing a rigorous reuse process with natural language requirement specifications, Java integrated development environments, and support for reuse-oriented software development.

Data and Data Models - process model for round-trip engineering with relational database, adding alternative access paths to abstract data types and relational data modeling for geographic information systems.

Quality - load-testing of web site applications: analysis and recommendations and a process model for certification of product and process.

Other topics include:
- The Future of Software Development
- Understanding the Role of Use Case in UML
- Extended Spatiotemporal UML: Motivations, Requirements, and Constructs
- A Design Method for Real-Time Object-Oriented Systems Using Communicating Real Time State Machines
- Information Modeling and Method Engineering: A Psychological Perspective
- Component-Based ERP Design in a Distributed Object Environment
- Knowledge and Object-Oriented Approach for Interoperability of Heterogeneous Information Management Systems

As shown by the topics this book does cover a wide range of knowledge areas. Although the collection is not tightly edited, which resulted in each paper reflecting its author's distinctive writing style, each paper in this book goes into a great deal of depth and thoroughly covers the topic. In fact, if only one topic from among the 21 in this collection coincides with your area of interest this book will be a worthwhile investment. For example, although I read each of the papers and found more than a few that were in line with my own professional interests, I felt that the two that addressed quality to be an amply return on my investment in this book.
