I love it; I wrote it.
In a world torn by racial strife, it's nice to find a young love story that transcends race. It's also nice to find a book about boys-- that's b-o-y-s-- in love. That's why I wrote it

A powerful, exhaustively researched rebuttal
Hannah Arendt On The Holocaust: A Study Of The Suppression Of Truth by Jules Steinberg (Professor of Political Science, Denison University) is a scholarly, critical, seminal assessment of the writings of Hannah Arendt. Meticulously deconstructing the internal contradictions of Arendt's scholarship, the aspects of Arendt's work that encourage murderous totalitarian regimes, and Arendt's failure to understand or admit the true horrific nature of the Holocaust, Hannah Arendt On The Holocaust is a powerful, exhaustively researched rebuttal to Hannah Arendt's writings and a welcome addition to the growing library of Holocaust studies and a highly recommended addition to academic reference collections.

Good for Yom Kippur and year round
This book was read during services last week at my mother's synagogue. I immediately asked the rabbi for information, so that I could order my own copy. I know that my daughter will use it when teaching at our religious school, and the book will eventually be given to our children's day school. The story is charming and, while it will captivate little ones, is told well enough to be of interest to those who read it aloud to their children.

Read It? I Lived It! (Sort Of.)
"Hold Me!" is a delightful collection of Jules Feiffer's cartoons in dramatic form. A series of short skits about life and anxiety and marriage, I have fond memories of playing one of the many-roled male parts in this wonderful assemblage. It's a great read as well as great fun to act.

A divine Homeric Hymns
In ancient Greece, a hymn was a song of praise to a god--but it could also tell a rousing story, like the infant Hermes stealing his brother Apollo's cattle, or Aphrodite seducing the Trojan prince Anchises on Mt. Ida.

Professor Susan Shelmerdine's translation of the Homeric Hymns is an ideal introduction to these 33 hymns dedicated to the various Olympian gods. In clear, lively prose, she explains the hymns' literary tradition, myth sources, and forms. In easy-to-access on-the-page footnotes, she explains the relevant background that makes the hymns clear and easy to understand. But what makes her translation first-rate is that the poems are written in a clear, engaging voice that is both true to ancient Greek stylistics and yet sounds as contemporary as today. For example, this description of the abduction of Persephone by Hades:

"But the wide-pathed ground gaped open
along the Plain of Nysa, where the lord who receives many [Hades} sprang out
with his immortal horses, the son of Kronos, worshipped under many names.
He seized her against her will and on his golden chariot
carried her off wailing. And she cried aloud with a shrill voice,
But no one either of the gods or mortal men
heard her cry, not even the olives with their splendid fruit."

In addition, the book provides pictures of the gods taken from ancient Greek art, genealogy charts, and relevant maps. If you are taking a mythology class or just want an authentic introduction to stories of the ancient Greek gods, Susan Shelmerdine's Homeric Hymns is an excellent place to start.

The Hormone Solution: Stay Younger Longer With Natural ....
I found this book to be well organized and easy to read and understand. There is a wealth of information about the role of hormones in the body, and the consequences of not having enough as you age. I enjoyed the detailed explanation of the function of each hormone. At the end of each section, Dr. Hertoghe adds a one page table of a condensed version of his recommendations for easy reference. That makes the book very user friendly. The book has information that is revelant to older and middle aged people, as well as people in their twenties. I thought I could share this book with my sister, but we both like it so much as a reference that we had to buy another one. Thanks to Dr. Hertoghe for shedding light on so many hormonal changes associated with getting older. Can't live without it anymore!

Another rave
Anybody's who is at all interested in Jewish culture will learn a lot from this book -- and enjoy it too. It's got a great section on Jews on broadway, an hysterical piece by Woody Allen, another highly readable set of Jewish jokes -- one can find historical information, interesting stuff on the immigrant's experiece, poetry, old and new, short stories as well as the standards like Roth and Bellow...You can pull this book down and start anywhere -- all the pieces are short so you don't get overwhelmed -- and feel instantly the richness and depth of the Jewish-American tradition.
