This book was a favorite of my childhood and I still read it to this day. I pick it up somtimes at night or just when I want a quick read! All children will love this story.

As an interest rate derivative trader, and MS Computational Finance graduate, I am constantly in search of new texts that combine the right amount of theory and state of the art practice. The new text by Peter James definitely fits the bill for my needs. He provides the reader with clearly written fundamentals that are used to build up to complex topics. But most importantly Mr. James has a unique talent for including great practical examples throughout his text, something lacking in many option theory texts. This text will definitely remain on my desk as a great reference tool.

This two volume text is an essential reference and mandatory reading for any Neurology resident or Staff Physician. I had the opportunity to train under the instruction of many of the contributors to this text. I found it to be rich in detail and clinical expertise. I refer to it often in my practice. It is concise and easily understood.

In his book Peter Aureol on Predestination: A Challenge to Late Medieval Thought, the eighty-third volume of the Studies in the History of Christian Thought, Dr. James Halverson shows the impact of Peter Aureol's break with the traditional view of Predestination which was "God predestined (or saves) man without regard to human causes, but reprobates (damns) with regard to sin." This book is well written but not for the faint of heart. Extensively footnote with many of the footnotes in Medieval Latin, this work examines the theology of Peter Aureol, William Ockham, Gregory of Rimini and other. Showing how most of the works produced on predestination during the later parts of Medieval Europe where in support of or a reaction against Aureol's writings. Dr. Halverson in his classification and naming of the three main branches of Medieval Predestination theology (General Election, Single-Particular Election and Double-Particular Election) defines and gives clarity to a topic which is inherently chaotic. This book is a must read for anyone interested in the development of the doctrines concerning predestination.

In this very well written and argued book, James Cracraft examines sweeping changes in Russian architecture in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. The author concentrates not only on the architectural reform, which "had proved irreversible" on architectural reforms, but also on historical and cultural processes of the time in Russia and Europe. Furthermore, "The Petrine Revolution in Russian Architecture" deals not only with the Petrine reform and the new city of St. Petersburg, but also goes beyond that dealing with architectural trends in Muscovite Russia, that preceded the reforms. One of the important questions that Cracraft raises is whether there were any tendencies in Russian architecture of the second half of the 17th century that could possibly cause similar architectural change without Tsar Peter's sometimes violent reformist interventions. Interested with that highly controversial question, the author provides an excellent critique of works by various architectural historians. "The Petrine Revolution in Russian Architecture" concludes with a survey of 18th and 19th century Russian architecture, which proves irreversibility of the Peter the Great's influences.

The writing is clear, scholarly, and fascinating. Numerous illustrations and figures-photographs, old drawings, designs, and maps, as well as written excerpts from contemporaries and scholars, beautifully support the text. This book will be of great interest of those interested in Russian cultural or architectural history. It will serve as a useful asset to the experts and will fascinate someone who has no prior experience with Russian architectural history, as it will produce many curiosities, which the reader will look to answer by reading other books on this topic.

If I could I would give this book 10 stars. This book is by far the most interesting and historical concerning the people on both sides of the spectrum of the invasion. Contains not only personal information of those involved but all of the mentioned documents are contained at the end of the book, many of which have never been seen before. Also, contains information on the actual knowledge of what Kennedy knew concering the invasion.

When I started reading horror novels, I was guided to the common famous authors such as King, Dean, Barker, and Herbert. But I never dumbed the reality that there were also great authors who never got the chance to deserve what they should deserve. I believe Peter James is one of them. I only bought his novel Prophecy by coincidence. It was half-priced and I only took it because of that reason and never imagined I would be hooked from the first pages. At the same time, I was reading King's The shining, and couldn't put anyone of them down. I can say The Prophecy gave me a long time of thinking about its plot. It was uneque and the sequences of the events were perfectly tied together. It's about what you're going to do when you discover that your friends are dying one after one so starngely. What you're going to do when you discover it's your time. How you will face that fate.

I believe the author could successfully build a strong plot and a strong character in Franie, the heroine. He also succeeded in making the plot so convincing. Just forget about King, Dean and Barker for a little while and give this author a chance to amaze you with his writing skills.

Offering suggestions such as increasing federal spending on homeland security to ... and then upgrading the authority of the director of the Office of Homeland Security rather than create a new superagency, Protecting The American Homeland is a well-thought out and welcome contribution to the current national dialogue as it offers an important perspective for our post-911 national security needs.

The "question" alluded to in the title has to do with the proper legal status of psychoanalysts who lack conventional medical training. Freud argues that psychoanalysts, though they certainly need extensive training of some kind before they hang up a shingle, shouldn't be required to go through the med school route, which he finds largely irrelevant to the field of psychology. Subtitled "Conversations with an Impartial Person," this book is set up as a dialogue between Freud and a not quite convinced but sympathetic listener; as a literary device, it functions pretty well.

The whole "lay analysis" angle, which members of the general public (like me) could hardly be expected to find terribly compelling, makes up only part of the book. The chief interest here, I think, lies in Freud's lucid description of how psychoanalysis is conducted (whereas most of his other books provide only brief glimpses of what happens on Freud's couch). It also sums up some key Freudian concepts for those who came in late. All in all, it's readable and informative.
