Not an adequate or satisfying introduction/technical manual.
After reading this book in one short sitting, I am unsure as to why the author wrote it. The book basically describes a step-by-step process of Kyudo with several anecdotes sprinkled here and there. The reader is provided with many technical details, but is left confused from the lack of a fluid overview of the subject matter. The few illustrations that do exist provided very little descriptive aid to the text. Noticeable aspects of the book are its tone and language. The writing style is both cumbersome and reminiscent of a 1940's technical manual. The author also assumes that the reader knows very little of the Japanese culture and beliefs. While this is not a fault, it is an ineffective assumption for such a short book. I assumed that the book was meant to be an introduction to Kyudo. In this regard, the book failed to accomplish its goal, leaving anyone interested in Kyudo to search for a more substantial and clear text.

Not exactly the best book of Turner's work.
This book provides basic background information on Turner's progression as an artist, and it does contain a nice selection of Turner's landscapes. However, the reproductions are poor in quality, hardly doing the authentic works justice.

Disappointing and meandering
Prof. Singal has an interesting thesis here, one well worth exploring, but his book needs more focus. Singal wanders from psychobiography (including some ill-fitting speculation into Faulkner's neurological problems!) to literary analysis to critiques of other Faulkner critics. Singal ends his study when it reaches the midpoint of Faulkner's career, essentially saying that Faulkner did not write anything interesting after 1942 or so--and while this well may be a valid opinion, asserting it without substantiating it is a cop-out. At times I felt I was reading the work of a talented undergrad rather than that of a tenured professor.
Readers interested in more rigorous studies of Faulkner's life and works should stick with Blotner's *Faulkner: A Biography*, Brooks's *WF: The Yoknapatawpha Country*, and Frederick Karl's relatively recent *WF: American Writer*.

PLEASE DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS BOOK!
I've just finished reading this book and felt obliged to write this review so that others would not waste their time and money as I have. To put some perspective on this when I purchased this book I thought I was buying a book which would acknowledge the evils of Communism and Stalinism. As I began to read it however, I slowly began to realize that the author's true intent was to rehabilitate the memory of Adolph Hitler. Written in the style of a novel, Hitler plays the largest role in the book. He comes across as a thoughtful, even kindly individual who decided to kill the Jews against his morals and better judgement! This is a direct quote from the epilogue: "Adolph Hitler's bravery in facing up to the communist threat at the cost of his international reputation and his life is rarely acknowledged." Based upon the author's viewpoint, Hitler was "forced" to persecute and kill the Jews of Europe to prevent them from aiding in the Communist overthrow of Germany and Europe. One scene in the book actually has him trying to convince a Jewish inmate in Dachau to spread Stalin's crime amongst the world jewry. If only the Jews realized what they were doing, Hitler would never have ordered the Holocaust! Another scene has him confessing to a PRIEST about his doubts, and reluctance of eliminating the Jewish population of Germany! Please bear in mind that I am a STAUNCH anti-communist. To me, Communism and Nazism are interchangeable. The West is grossly overdue in acknowledging not only the horrors of Stalin, but of Communism world-wide. This does not justify however, an attempt to make Hitler a "good guy" because he "only" killed 6,000,000 and then only to fight Communism. I will go farther. Books like this do an injustice to all of the honorable men and women who fought Communism at the cost of their reputations (in the West) and their lives (in Communist countries). Liberals, Media and all Fellow Travelers love to point out examples like this as representing anti-communists of all stripes. Read "The Black Book of Communism" or anything by David Horowitz to truly understand what Communists perpetrated in the name of "Humanity and Equality". JUST DON'T READ THIS!
Garbage
Stalinbashing somehow just has got to tie in with the prattle we get in the modern age about
"victory over communism,"
whatever that is.
I have to believe it somehow relates to the decimation of a peaceful and prosperous Yugoslavia into a wasteland of migration, economic collapse, famine, economic wars and genocide.
The victory cries still echo from some pretty strange sources, to and include John Major and Bill Clinton, who should at least be getting the message by now.

Dated Material
I was in such a rush to obtain course construction material for vocational education I didn't look at the publishing date. Although some of the material may be used today, most of the text, pictures and examples are very dated (1977). Vocational Education is, and has, been adjusting to the times. I would suggest looking for an updated version for course construction.

Replace assumption with knowledge.
The author assumes as factual the uses of ozone eating chemicals and destruction wrought by emissions of trace gases. Hence the possibility opens up to discuss the tremendously complex ways in which the problems need to be addressed. It will come as a complete surprise to both the author and the unsuspecting reader that there are no problems which need such complex and costly remedies. There is no gain in sacrificing the public's wealth on avoiding risks which do not exist. All the money spent contributes to is the material well-being of those involved in addressing the man-made catastrophe predictions. This volume is long on words and short on intellectual honesty.
