Provocative Propaganda
A superb collection of good quality color and "black and white" plates that give an insiders peek of the efforts of Red China's propaganda machine. The books many illustrations are a feast for the eyes and mind on their own right, but also offer a historic perspective for the inclined. Here you'll find many examples of East meets West in illustrations that mix academic painting with traditional Chinese landscape painting, a very interesting combination.I thoroughly enjoyed this collection and recommend it highly to anyone interested in masterful visual art and or political sublimation.

PICK - IN.
It's a book you can spend a lot of time on... It contains a lot of songs, each one with a different mood: beautiful melodic pieces, quick jigs to be danced, dramatik marches, and so on...

The CD is very helpful and pleasant to listen to, even if it does not contain all of the songs of the book.
The difficulty of the songs ranges from very easy to very difficult. And you'll also find out some beautiful tunings for the guitar: DADGAD, CGDGAD,...

If you like to play fingerpicking, it's a very good book, like all of the Grossman's publications.

Informed, informative, and highly recommended reading
Thoughtfully written by Stefan Einhorn (Professor of Molecular Oncology and Chairman of the Department of Oncology-Pathology, Karolinska Institute, Sweden), A Concealed God: Religion, Science And The Search For Truth is a careful and inquiring examination into the nature of God's existence. Eschewing both blind faith and absolute secularism, A Concealed God looks at the common factors found in seven of the world's most widespread religions: Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism. Drawing upon each faith's profession of a higher power, A Concealed God presents and eloquent and highly intriguing investigation into eternal questions. A Concealed God is informed, informative, and highly recommended reading for students of theology, metaphysics, and comparative religion.

The complex relationship between student and teacher
A friend who teaches European lit asked me if I didn't think Stefan Zweig was "sentimental." But in the case of "Confusion," all the high emotion fits the story of a rather obsessive-compulsive young man, who is rather disinterested in learning until he meets the right teacher. Framed by the perspective of this same young man as a 60-year-old professor, the tale is even more poignant. This tale of an over-eager student, who can't see that he's behaving like a spurned lover when his teacher criticizes him, is a searing psychological study. Considering that Zweig gave the eulogy at Freud's funeral, who better to explore such things? I've never read a work by Zweig I didn't find richly textured, beautifully written, and deeply felt. If that's "sentimental," then I plead guilty!

Conqueror of the Seas: The Story of Magellan

tentative assessment
I am actually only half way through the book right now but like everything Zweig writes, it is riveting. Caution: some readers may be irritated by its political/cultural /religious insensitivities. For example, he keeps referring to Mohammedans rather than Muslims and refers to worshippers of Mohammed. This is, I am sure, extremely irritating to followers of Islam who of course worship no God but Allah. Try to remember that the book was written in the 1930s--Zweig is not a bigot, just not up to current standards of political correctness. Mohammedan was a common western term of his day--(although speaking of actually worshipping the Prophet is just plain uninformed.)
The first half of the book puts Magellan's voyage in the context of the power struggle between Spain and Portugal, Middle Eastern powers and Italian city states like Venice and Genoa and gives background history on Henry the Navigator and the rise of the great age of European navigation. There is also a lot of detail on Magellan's early days in service to Portugal, his previous voyages, battles , and adventures. court intrigues, etc. I am now at the point where he has begun his epic voyage faced before he even started with rumors of potential betrayal and mutiny.

An Exciting Book
A really great one. The new photography coming from germany shows a world seen many times, but in a deferent way. The vision it reflects is designed to a great extent accordind to the subject matter, and not primarilly as a means of self expression. This book is essential in showing how at the end of this century, the boundaries betwin art photgraphy and the inteligent sort of photojournalism are fading. The photographs are beautifull and exciting, but in a defferent, more mature way than what we have learned to expect from photography. I warmly recomend it.

Yes it can happen to you!
A superbly practical and comprehensive guide - cogent and succinct but thorough. Having just gone through an office disaster similar to worked examples and real life situations presented in the book, incurring tens of thousands of dollars of damages and subsequent insurance claims, I can highly recommend this book as a must read for prevention purposes and a user-friendly guide for when it happens to you. I never thought I would need it, and was so grateful to have a copy on hand to reassure my decision-making in working through all the clean-up afterwards. It is an excellent resource not only for small businesses, but also for any office situation - non-profits, community groups, churches, synagogues etc.

Want to have a wide perspective of Supply Chains?
The critical factors of time and speed make "Supply Chain Optimization" very important for all companies today. For either a manufacturer or a service provider concentrating on time and of course on money is getting more attention. So both cost management and supply chain management enables companies to achieve competitiveness. This book is a very good example of integrating costs and supply chains.

I can easily say that it was a unique book that changed my perspective and widely increased my knowledge about Supply Chains. It is a well sourced and different kinds of authors makes the book more attractive.

The book has 4 parts. First part introduces the concepts for cost management in Supply Chain. In this part, one of the editors "Stefan Seuring" gives a very brief and well done conceptual framework for Supply Chain Costing. Also the other editor Maria Goldbach presents an organizational approach for Supply Chains and provides a cooperative framework for supply chain costing from the perspective of both functional and constitutional levels. The second part deals with applying cost management instruments. The third part concentrates on building cost management models. The fourth part extends the scope beyond cost and includes subjects internet based purchasing tools, complexity management and balanced scorecard from the view of Supply Chains.

In general, it is stated that suuply chain optimization presents a big opportunity for improving supply chain performance.

I would like to thank to the editors for such a good order and classification and also to the authors for a very wide perspective of Supply Chains.

Eroticism w/ passion, playfulness, whimsy ... and pheromones
Photographer Stefan May has compiled a fine collection of b&w photos that rates high on the scale of eroticism, but [thankfully] falls way short of smut. There's a spontaneity in Mr. May's portrayal of passionate couples, but what's more amazing is the intimacy infused in his work through extreme angles, creative cropping and the depiction of depth and movement. I enjoy this book more every time I pick it up.

I'd say that "Couples" falls squarely between the refined artistry of Patrick Demarchelier's "Photographs" and the joyfully haphazard presentation of Sante d'Orazio's "A Private View." Mr. Demarchelier is unsurpassed (my opinion) in "nailing" a photo: perfect pose, perfect angle, perfect exposure, perfect everything. Mr. d'Orazio does a great job of chronicling a glamorous and fun lifestyle. Whereas these two artists (both masters) still leave the viewer somewhat at a distance from their subjects, Mr. May brings us right into the photo with a perspective that can only be had from an involved point of view. Sometimes we're spying ... undetected; other times, we're right in the scene ... point blank, yet ignored; still others, the subjects are looking right at us ... caught in the act. There's movement, there's action, and everywhere there's the sense of erotic touch. Sheer brilliance. The chemistry (yes, those pheromones) of physical attraction is on virtually every page, but nothing about the photography is "dirty" or "in your face."

Save for the thickness (it's not), "Couples" is a large format book with coffee table dimensions. The 100+ photos range from 3" x 5" all the way up to fully both pages of the open book. There seems to be an overall randomness to the ordering, front to back, although there are many groupings (with titles) in place to portray photographic "suites" of a suggestive nature. Not surprisingly, the couples are all gorgeous. Not one looks at all posed, i.e., the spontaneity of the photo shoot(s) comes across very strongly. These had to be the most enjoyable gigs for everyone involved.

"Couples" is recommended for lovers of love, as well as lovers of great b&w photography.
