Indispensable guide for using Bach Remedies with your pets
As a caretaker of six cats and a dog, I have used Bach Remedies for years with my animals but I've always had to refer to books focusing on the use of the remedies with humans. This book has come to my rescue and I especially like that there are separate chapters on cats and dogs. There is also a separate chapter on use of the remedies wih horses.

The best feature of the book is the second chapter "Using the remedies" where the authors spell out the animal behaviors that can indicate a need for each of the 38 remedies. For example, Crab Apple is the remedy for cleansing and is indicated for a animal who does excessive grooming or chews on its fur or feathers.

The only negative aspect for me, as an American, is the very British slant in the resources lists and in the case studies. However, that is a small complaint in the overall usefulness of this title.

Great approach to Bach Flower Essences
I work professionally with Bach Flower Essences, so I keep up to date with all the books that are published. I've just finished going through the Bach Remedies Workbook and I'm bowled over by it. It's a really fresh approach. Most writers just list what each remedy is for, but Ball makes every essence come alive by making you think about it and helping you see its relevance to your own life. This is a book all about empowerment, and comes highly recommended, not least by the Bach Centre which has (according to a friend of mine) made it the main text for its distance learning course.

Battleships of the U.S. Navy in World War II

This is an excellent book on the evolution of the Battleship
Battleships of th U.S. Navy in World War II includes many photographs, side drawings and deck plans to illustrate each battleship class and more often each battleship. The different radar arrays are also illustrated. The book touches very lightly on the japanese battleships of WWII. Battleships covered are the Wyoming class of 1912 through the Iowa's including thier history up to about 1970. Also included are the Montana Class while there is not a lot of information It is the most I have seen in one source. What makes this book a favorite of my collection is the line drawings, photographs, and the information about the Montana Class.

Being Who You Are

Thoughtful, contemplative inner directed meditations.
This book is not only beautiful to read and rest the mind in a quiet contemplative space, with short essays and thoughtful observations about the spiritual search and its struggles and accomplishments, it is also beautifully made and laid out with a restful format and illustrated designs between chapters. It was given as a gift to me, and I now give it to those who are special to me. It covers many aspects of the spiritual search, and approaches them with the flavor of Christian, Buddhist, New Age, Hindu and Sufi concepts which all seem to tie in together in this little book, and all seem to come out in agreement - how about that?! The thoughts are based on the author's own conclusions and realizations that he made during his spiritual work, and is a kind of summation of his own studies and reflections. Soft, gentle and yet prodding, it is a subtle textbook which quietly stirs the mind and the soul toward deeper self-observation and higher inspiration. Very nicely done!

Exceptional for the fingerstyle steel string guitarist
Aside from being an excellent audio CD to listen to, this book/CD set offers a great range of difficulties, a very fun variety of tunes, and months of material to learn and practice. I love it because you just don't hear very much acoustic celtic music, and yet everyone I play it for loves it. It's fun to break out the pick at times and flatpick some bluegrass, but for sitting around listening to your guitar as well as challenging your playing, this set can't be beat. Tab is very accurate and good, and again, it's worth buying just to listen to the music on the CD.

Brazil: A Land of the Future (Studies in Austrian Literature, Culture, and Thought. Translation Series (Paper))
Published in Paperback by Ariadne Pr (2000)
Authors: Stefan Zweig and Lowell A. Bangerter
Amazon base price: $22.50

Recommended for armchair travelers and Brazilian studies.
Stefan Zweig draws upon his personal experiences andimpressions of Brazil to portray a vast, inviting, fertile land of immense resources and a history devoid of major wars in Brazil: A Land Of The Future. Here portrayed is the untouched beauty of the Brazilian interior, the vibrant growth and progress of the urban areas, and a vision of an almost utopian place seemingly unaffected by the ills of the modern world and providing refuge from global hostilities. Ably translated into English by Lowell A. Bangerter, Brazil: A Land Of The Future is recommended reading for armchair travelers, students of geography and western hemispheric studies, and Brazilian history, culture, and society.

Building the Corporate Brand

An Expert View.
This is a brand and marketing strategy book I must highly reccommend- especially for professionals in the field (even with the odd spelling mistake). Really detailed, expert analysis and unique insight- the "real thing" in a world that is full of "pretend experts". This guy knows his stuff- big time. Many ideas are new and jump at the reader, and are backed up by real case study examples. This book makes any Marketer and Brander think a lot and opens some new ground- it is also one of the most thorough books on the subject I have read (every aspect of strategic Brand Building is covered and carefully "woven" into his argument). I use it as a professional's guide to look at when I'm stuck- a great strategist's reference and no doubt for me a book that has opened up new doors in strategic brand building and marketing thinking. Don't share with the competition!!!

Castellio gegen Calvin, oder, Ein Gewissen gegen die Gewalt
Published in Unknown Binding by Fischer Taschenbuch Verlag ()
Author: Stefan Zweig
Amazon base price: $
Average review score:

Right to Heresy--a great relevant book from the 1930s
I read this book in the English translation which came out in 1935 I believe. The English title is The Right to Heresy--Castellio against Calvin. I was not familiar with Castellio before reading this book--he was one of the truly great humanist thinkers, a contemporary of Calvin and a man who believed in freedom of religious thought, he explored the philosophical and practical importance of tolerance and free religious thought during the early years of the Protestant Reformation and was able to preserve his essential belief in mercy and understanding in the face of harshly cruel and eventually fatal persecution. Calvin is exposed as a profound, important, but deeply flawed theologian. His cruelty and dishonesty and cold disregard for human emotions and the need for happiness, simple pleasures, etc. is vividly portrayed by Zweig. Calvin's attempts to turn Geneva, Switzerland into a harsh theological dictatorship (Church bells were banned because there sound was considered too sensual: a man thrown into jail for smiling at a baptism, people burned at the stake for disagreement with minor theological issues, etc.)reminded me of current descriptions of the Taliban and the reoccurring nature of this problem of fundamentalist, joyless attempts by religious fanatics to remold human nature. Zweig has a flair for drama and writes a very moving account of the battle between these two men. He also tells us about the persecution of Servetus and other great "heretics" of the day. I highly recommend this book.
