Turkey Hunting
An OK book, but I've seen better. It sounds like Mr. Phillips is telling other people's successes and none of his own. His only experiences seem to be making mistakes. Yes it is great to learn from other people's mistakes but I also want to hear about their successes. Buy at your own risk.

Excellent book on the basics
As with the vast majority, but not all, books that bite off huge taxonomic groups this one fails to provide detailed updated information on this group but does provide an overview and excellent illustrations. If you desire more than the basics purchase Johnsgard's books or some other title that limits its treatment. If its the basics that you desire its worth the money.

good detail and how-to pictures
This is the book that I used the first time I butchered and package a deer. It explains various ways of butching, and the purpose for each. The pictures are a great help too. There are a lot of recipes to try too. Although I didn't find a sausage recipe that I liked, there are many other recipes for cooking that looked good.

I'm trying to find the book now to put in my personal library that I can use for reference in the future.

Do NOT buy this book.
The introduction had so many typos that (as a purist), I returned it before reading the last paragraph. If readers can live with that, great. Enjoy the book.

As massive an undertaking as the color printing was (first-rate, BTW), the poor attention to proofreading such a small amount of text matter renders the integrity of the rest of the book highly suspect. I didn't want to proofread the 435 plates (in microscopic Roman numerals) for out-of-order errors, missing plates, etc.

Regretfully,

Andy B

interesting
This book is neat. I liked reading it, because it is full of information. If there is anything you want to know about America's birdlife, you will find what you are looking for in this book.

An invaluable reference for lovers of Audubon's art
This is the best book available for anyone who wishes to see accurate reproductions of Audubon's greatest work, the Double Elephant Folio edition of Birds of America. Produced in collaboration with the uniquely talented printer/artist, Robert Havell, Audubon's massive work is (as the subtitle of this book says) the most famous bird book in the world. As such, the Double Elephant Folio deserves to be reproduced as it really is, with all titles, part and plate numbers, and credits to artist and printer that are part of the original plates. This is the only book of several on the market (whether used or in print) that allows the reader to see the plates-all 435 of them--as they actually appear in the original work.

As a collector and art dealer, I use this book constantly, but I have never spent much time looking at the text. It consists of brief notes to each plate (primarily factual information on the specific birds pictured). Although the 2-page introduction gets the basic facts of Audubon's life right, I noticed many significant errors. The book also has organizational flaws (including the lack of an index to the plates or even page numbers to allow you to quickly locate specific plates). Nevertheless, the color and printing is very good to excellent on most of the images, and it is generally superior to that of other Audubon art books. Until something better comes along, I would consider this book a "must-have" for any serious student or collector of Audubon's art.

lovebird breeder
This book does not at all explain what to feed your birds. breeding, nesting, health care it should be called a professionals point of vew good pictures but dont fully expain mutation coloring. Was very dissipointed in this book TITLE is very mis leading if you want a book with pictures of lovebirds with out full discription of them it is ok but other wise it is totaly useless

More mutations
It is a book with very potential, in spite of presenting some appearances. It presents images of a lot of quality and quite beautiful. It could go beyond, and to show more new mutations, as the ones that exists here in Portugal.

unbelievable
I was shocked at some of the unbelievably bad advice in this book. I worry about the woman who said she learned all she needed to know about her amazon - if she thinks she did she needs to find some real information so that she can care for her amazon correctly. Aside from the basic info that applies to most parrots there is so much bad info that it totally baffled me.

A book cantaining no useful informations
The book don't contain informations really useful: the text could refer to many other parrot species. The photographs are very good, but the legends are so incomplete that it is not possible to use the illustrations to identify the amazons species shown.

GREAT BOOK!
If you want an amazon that is well trained, healthy, and a great pet, this book is a must-have. It helped me understand everything I would have questioned before buying an amazon parrot. An all around excellent book!

Ducks, Geese, and Swans (Zoobooks Series)
Published in Library Binding by Creative Education (September, 1900)
Authors: James R. Rothaus and John Bonnett Wexo
Amazon base price: $24.25
Used price: $48.15

Not good value for money
Ducks, Geese & Swans is at best suited for children in the 3-6 years age group. Nowhere is it mentioned that the whole book consists of only 19 pages. Their is nothing wrong with the quality of the book, but it should be pertinently stated that this book is for children. The price also gives the impression of a more in-depth study of waterfowl. If you want a very basic introduction to waterfowl for your children, this might be it. If not - steer clear of this one. Your money can be spent much better elsewhere.

Close, but no cigar
Frank is one very unusual chick. He longs to swim with the ducks in the pond, but he just isn't made for it! What to do? Jemima Tabb, the farmer's daughter, notices the little chick's plight and with the help of her uncle and mother design Frank his very own swimming suit. But as he gets older, he realizes he just wants to be a chicken, not some duckish freak...Okay, but the story was lacking strongly in the plot and character department. And there didn't seem to be much of a point to the story, either. Stick with Dick's other works - Babe, When Pigs Fly and Martin's Mice are favorites of mine. :)

Interesting anecdotes. No technical content.
Pleasant read about author's anecdotal observations of birds in flight, written from the perspective of an avid birder. Author is neither a ornithologist nor aeronautical engineer and understands little about the science of flight. No substantial content for those with an interest in understanding "How Birds Fly." Title is therefore deceiving.

An unfortunate mix of great photos with substandard text.
If you would like lots of great pictures of many canaries of color and type varieties, you may enjoy this book despite its sometime misidentification of the birds in the captions. I have noted that the quality of the text published by TFH in recent years varies widely. Some of it now seems to suffer due to poor editing and author error. This is especially true of THE PROPER CARE OF... series. For more sophisticated and more accurate text try some of their older selections like: CANARIES AND RELATED BIRDS-- Horst Bielfeld or ENCYCLOPEDIA OF CANARIES-- G.T. Dodwell. The information in these older books may lack the latest trends in aviculture, but these trends aren't covered in the present book either!
