Always Another Good Book to Read.....
Elizabeth Brown always loved books. In fact, "She didn't like to play with dolls,/She didn't like to skate./She learned to read quite early/And at an incredible rate." And through her long life, Elizabeth was never without a book, even while vacuuming or shopping or even exercising. As the years passed, her collection grew until every surface was covered with books. "When volumes climbed the parlor walls/And blocked the big front door,/She had to face the awful fact/She could not have one more." So Elizabeth Brown did the wise and generous thing, she shared her books with the entire town in a very original way..... The wonderful husband and wife team of Sarah Stewart and David Small have authored a delightful and entertaining story about an endearing red-headed, nearsighted bibliophile. Ms Stewart's simple and gentle, rhyming text sparkles, and is complemented by Mr Small's charming and humorous artwork. Children and adults alike will enjoy all the wonderfully special details in each picture. Together word and art paint an engaging portrait of a unique and spirited, book-loving heroine who won't be soon forgotten. Perfect for youngsters 4-8, The Library is a classic little treasure to read and share with the entire family, and is definitely a must for each and every home library.

A must have for all book lovers.
Sarah Stewart has crafted a wonderful story of Elizabeth Brown, nearsighted and shy, who is not very good at sports. Elizabeth Brown learns to read and from that moment on, she is emmersed in books. From climbing under the covers with a flashlight to read until late at night, to reading in class, to playing library with her friends, Elizabeth loves her books. As she grows up, she chooses books as her companions and fills her house with books. Like many people who love books, she passes up new clothes and snacks and looks for new books to read. Soon her house is filled to the brim with books, books are everywhere! And Elizabeth still always has a book in her hand, no matter what she is doing. Finally, realizing she hasn't room for one more single book she decides to find a new use for her beloved books. This whimsical story will spark recognition in older readers and delight youngsters. Once again, Sarah Stewart and David Small have teamed to creat the very best of books. This is a delight.

What can happen when you become an avid reader?
I bought this book when I was in the midst of a grass roots effort to get a new library built in my small town. That library opened four days ago. Fortunately, unlike the heroine in the book, my motivation was not driven by the need to find a home for too many books, although that new library does contain some of my overflow!

This is a wonderful book about the joy of reading, and the sharing of that joy with others. Some of us choose to share it through teaching, others through library work or literacy programs. Our heroine literally shares with her whole community when her collection grows too large for her living quarters.

A wonderful book to share with you favorite reader, or advocate for reading. A copy will find its way to our beautiful new library soon!

Astonishingly good, deeply important
I started listening to the audio tape some time ago in the car, and was initially somewhat ambivalent about the program. However, within fifteen minutes, I was thoroughly engaged, and fifteen minutes after that, wiping held-back tears from the corners of my eyes, wondering if "Nathaniel" (as in Hale) would be a good name for my future son.

Our forefathers, with courage and genius, created the most immitated society the world has ever known. How proud and fortunate this audio book makes one feel. I'm committed to listening to it with my teenage nieces and nephews on a "captive" drive sometime. It'll be a great topic for discussion.

Timeless Values
This book was a gift from my uncle, and one that I was thrilled to receive. I have a passion for learning about the Founders and the War that defined the way we live today. The author brings out the best quotes, poems, and letters from the most influential men in American history. Their level of devotion is unparalleled throughout the world. I find it most admirable that these men relied on God for their wisdom and through prayer and faith they pledged their "sacred honor" to the cause. I am only a high school student, but I understand that these values apply to everyone in every class. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for God or guidance.

America's Founding Ideals
Our form of government has been the most lasting, widespread innovation in modern history. As wonderful as that is, in many ways it is even more wonderful to return to the frame of mind and the values that engendered this invention.

Although (as Bill Bennett rightly points out) our founding Fathers (and Mothers) often fell far short of their own ideals and were profoundly skeptical about the potential of people to do the right thing, they also aspired to a kind of virtue on Earth that combined true nobility of spirit and deed with good relations towards others.

Bennett has put these ideals into the following categories: patriotism and courage; love and courtship; civility and friendship; education of the head and heart; industry and frugality; justice; and piety. You can dip your inquisitive toe into any of these, whenever you want. .... I suggest that in addition to buying a copy for yourself, that you plan to give this book as a gift to your children and grandchildren as they reach the age when they will begin to make important moral choices for themselves. .... In most cases, I felt like the material here was stating timeless principles that do apply today ....

Bennett does a nice job as editor in explaining the context of each passage. His love of these people, these ideals, and these words is obvious. It will move you. And hopefully inspire you to follow the good advice in those words.

Nicely done, Bill Bennett! This is a good use of history . . . to help us learn not to repeat the mistakes of the past needlessly.

The "Swiss Army Knife" of books
This is the first book I've seen that recognizes that there is more to creating a web site than knowing a specific web development program.

It explains in easy to understand terms, all of the steps necessary to do your web site...from start to finish.

This is the perfect book for an individual or a small business that wants to create their own web site.

Extremely helpful book
I spent hours scouring the shelves for a book like
this, but could never find one-- until now. Build Your Own Web Site offers exactly the kind of step-by-step instruction non-techies need to put together a successful site, start to finish. Most web design books assume too much knowledge on the part of their readers. This one offers practical, easy-to-understand advice on issues such as how to obtain a domain name-- and other topics that can strike fear into the hearts of computer phobes. Wondering whether you need to learn HTML? Or what the heck a web-safe color is, anyway? It's all here in David Karlins' wonderfully straightforward book.

A very well organized book
Build Your Own Web Site has something for everyone. This is an impressive book in that it completely demystifies the process of building a web site from A to Z. There are few books that truly begin at the beginning and discuss a wide variety of web tools; this makes web design accessible to everyone. It also simplifies the process for those who want to spend most of their time focusing on core competencies, rather that fighting through the labyrinth of developing and maintaining a web site. With a minimum of confusion, a novice can navigate the necessary steps required to build and maintain a presence on the web. In addition, independent web contractors will find this a useful guide since different companies often use the various web tools presented in this book and require their contractors to do the same. I was very impressed with the amount of knowledge packed into one volume. It is well written, well organized and very approachable. I will keep this book on the shelf as a personal reference, and I will recommend it to my students.

Unfortunatly, i had a severe problem with my bladder control. I am only 29, and up until 1 month ago, i still had a problem almost every night. With this book, i conquered my problem, and now i have a dry night EVERY night. Thank you Dry All Night.

Worked great for my 8 year old!
After lots of other tries, this book made the difference for
my 8 year old. He read it and kept reading it every night
for about a month and now has even had sleepovers with dry nights.

Thank you, authors, for helping him gain more confidence
and solve this frustration for him.

I can't say enough about this book! It really works!
My daughter is 5 and only reads a little. But I thought there was enough pictures, so I decided to go ahead with the book. We've dealt with wearing pull-ups, then with waking her when I went to bed, so I was VERY interested to see if this would work.

It sure did! It only took 2 weeks for my daughter to be totally dry. I might suggest, too, that you remove milk as a drink at dinner and bedtime; after we started using the Dry All Night book, a friend told me that studies show that children who drink milk for dinner wet the bed more often. Once we removed milk as a dinner beverage, all accidents stopped and my daughter became dry. She was so thrilled! After a month with no accidents, she gleefully informed me that she didn't need to "read" her Dry All Night book anymore! I only read the book through once. After that it became my daughters job and she did it all by herself. She didn't do a chart and I only occasionally reminded her to look at her book and drink her water in the afternoon. Truly magic! If you are struggling with nighttime dryness for your child, order this book now!

Something we all need
This book is for everybody. We all need words of encouragement and David Viscott delivers. Every passage is something we as people can relate to everyday. When your down you can open this book to any page and find something to bring you right back up! Read a passage and take a few minutes to let it soak in and continue on with your day. My favorite,"What other people think of you is none of your business." Beautiful.

It's a great help finding myself
It is mean much more than a pocket book to me. The way he said things, sometime you can't believe it but it so true. Need to check it out!

A must have - no crisis needed
This was sent to me after my father was killed in an accident and it's been a saving grace. Its full of great advice even if the only difficult times you have is simply getting from Monday thru to Friday. My favorite is "The only reason you need for wanting to do something is because you want to".

Great story - very realistic
The portrayal of our defense industry in this story is unfortunately accurate. We have placed so much emphasis on "smart weapons", that we have forgotten the real effectiveness of our military. The action and pace of this book will keep the reader enthralled and they will not want to put it down.

best Peters in years
I've read almost all of Ralph Peters' novels, and this is probably my favorite to date. I passed it over in hardcover--frankly it didn't sound very interesting. I couldn't have been more wrong: it's one of the best written, engrossing novels I've read in a long time. Peters is one of the few military thriller writers that can name drop Thomas Hardy novels and actually make us believe his characters read them. I know what a cliche this sounds, but I couldn' t put it down. Peters has within him his best novel yet--some day he'll write the Once An Eagle of his generation of officers.

Contractors Can Really Be Traitors
After 25 years in the defense industry, watching the Services buy big things they don't need while neglecting small things they do (like enough pay so the troops don't have to be on food stamps), it continues to disturb me that the American taxpayer continues to allow Congress to sell out to what Ike Eisenhower called the "military-industrial complex". TRAITOR could have been a documentary. This is a great novel, thrilling and unpredictable, but it is also based on the real world and all the more gripping because of this.

What to Read?
My friends and I are always recommending books to each other. We pull out our notebooks and PDAs and scribble down authors and titles. This sharing is an integral part of our friendships. When I open and browse in 100 One-Nightight Reads, I feel as if I have been talking to a good friend - and want to scribble down notes to myself.

This collection of essays recommending books that one can happily read in one night - is so much more than an annotated bibliography! David and John Major are sharing their own personal recommendations with us all. They are offering an intimate tour of the books that have mattered to them. Each essay has an individual approach and when you read it, you feel as if you have had a conversation with the author.

Sometimes I am reminded of old friends - books such as Chinua Achebe's Things Fall Apart that had a profound influence on my thinking when I read it twenty years ago; sometimes I am delighted to find a new book that I didn't know about - such as Louis Begley's Wartime Lies that must go on The List. Then it's nice to remember old favorites such as Raymond Chandler's The Big Sleep. One of the things I like about this book is that this is not a list of classic books that 'ought' to be read - its much more personal than that - broader in range - and much more fun. As I was reading, I found myself saying "Oh yes, I remember reading that,"- or "I must reread that!" - or "I must remember that one!"

Each essay elicits a specific response and this review would be too long if I wrote down all my comments. But the collection gives pleasure - a persuasive collection, that makes readers want to read more and might encourage those who don't read as much to pick up a book.

I think that teachers and librarians who offer guidance to young people would enjoy this book and find it useful.

The Students Perspective
100 One Night Reads is a fantastic piece of reference work. Virtually all the books I've read and written on for school over the past two years has been recommended by the Majors.
100 One Nights lets me find books that I know I will like, and that are universally excepted by teachers everywhere as being sophisticated literature. I haven't gone wrong once. Every book I've chosen from 100 One Nights has been well worth my time, and great material for the ensuing report. I've even started reading some of their suggested books just for the hell of it.

GREAT FOR BOOK CLUBS AND LITERATURE LOVERS ALIKE
How many times have you stood examining a book in a store or library, and wished for more information about the story or the author? Or how often have you presented a book to your reading group to persuade them to select your pick, but couldn't say much about it beyond "I heard this was great?" Now with John and David Major as your passionate and intelligent guides to 100 wonderful books, you can make that informed choice. For each selection, you get their succinct and witty descriptions, which are enjoyable before and after you read the book. If you love to read, I highly recommend that you buy this book. You will use it a lot, and never regret it.

I just read Cam Jansen and the Ghostly Mystery. It is a good mystery. Be sure to read this book if you like to read mysteries. A ticket booth was robbed at a Triceratops Pops concert. Who was it? Cam and Eric try to solve the mystery. Did they solve it? How did the kids get tickets to the concert? You have to read the book to find out.

He scared an old man, and he faked a heart attack. Meanwhile the ticket seller was robbed. Cam and Eric were looking all around. Did they find the robbers?

How to Survive Xmas shopping...
One of my favorite childhood authors was Robert Louis Stevenson. The excitement/tension in his books is palpable. I get that same feeling w/Louis L'Amour.
It's a simple story simply told. I survived a 12 hr. marathon Xmas shopping trip by reading this book between stores. Great characters & great action... Consistent themes include education, family & honor. The Sacketts are a family for the ages. This uis a great place to start the Sackett Saga!

Now this is a good one!
This happens to be the first Louis Lamour that I have read, but from discussing it with other Lamour fans I have found that this book is one of his best. I really enjoyed it and although I am relatively new to his books (only 7 so far) it is probably my favorite. Lamour has opened the Western genre to me and I am now an avid western reader. This is definitely a good one to start with.

with the wind at my back and a day to kill
I read The Daybreakers in one sitting and not since discovering Conrad,Asimov, and Vonnegut in high school had a book so strongly introduced me into a new genre of fiction. The Daybreakers is the best Sackett book I have read to date. With beautiful imagery of the new american west and thoughtful page devotion to its characters and setting. It has great gunfights and a quick-paced story to back them up. I now find myself as big a fan of the warm frontier years as I was of the cold sterile future. I recommend this book to anyone with enough time to give this great story.

Even Eagles Need a Push : Learning to Soar in a Changing World

From motivation to inspiration
First off, don't be put off by the fact that this book was published in 1994 (copyrighted in 1990). The fact is, it's a timeless book that doesn't draw from current 'techniques' or 'ways of thinking'. It's as relevant today as it was when it was first published.

David McNally begins with the question: "Why does the thrill of soaring begin with the fear of falling?" he goes on to ask how you can overcome that fear and dare to live, and he takes you from motivation through inspiration to action. In fact, if you're prepared to work at this book (sounds strange, doesn't it), it will be you who writes the ending.

This is not so much a table-thumping "You can do it" book, as a quiet journey at your own speed that allows you to discover your own potential and teaches you how to choose your attitude and transform your life... success with dignity would sum it quite nicely.

Very Inspirational, It's in my top 3 !!!
"In my Life I've read three books, in which EVERY word inspired me. 'Even Eagles Need A Push is one of them.

Motivational and Inspiring
David McNally uses a number of quotes, anecdotes and exercises to create a sense of purpose for one's life. The book is a cross between a motivational business title like something from Zig Ziglar and a feeling-based inspirational book like something from Leo Buscaglia.

McNally encourages individuals to set goals and work daily to achieve them and succeed at them.

Readers will come away with a positive attitude that anything is possible.
