Be careful, don't count on these guides!!!
I have used the "Let's Go" giudes for the last several years and while the idea of them is beautiful, it's too bad they simply are not reliable. I was stuck March 1999 wandering around in England late at night looking for a hostel that simply was not there, only to find out later that they had reversed it's location with a University in the book. I ended up having to stay in an expensive B&B because of this mix up, as well as being angry and exausted from walking endlessly with a heavy pack. So ok, they made a mistake that one time, but September, 2002 I stayed at a California Hostel that was given a good review, and not only were the ameneties not anywhere near excellent as the book said, but it was grungy, shabby, and the staff was not friendly. Worst of all, it was in a filthy unsafe ghetto area of San Francisco, which nearly ruined my trip! I have stayed in many Hostels all over the globe, and many are very comfortable, safe, and clean. As a parent, I would not want my kids going anywhere supposedly safe depending on this guide, and I would hate for anyone to be somewhere they could not speak the language fluently, and be lost because the information is dead wrong.

The Perfect Guide for Your California Dreams
Whether your eyes are set on the tranquil coast and magestic mountains or the bright lights and big cities of California, Let's Go shares with you its invaluable insights on where to go and what to do. If it were not for this book, I would have been stuck in the overpriced hotels and unsavory eateries often suggested by Lonely Planet and other guides. Mr. Blazejewski and Ms. Hur are also adept writers and rather funny; I thoroughly enjoyed reading their prose during my flight. Overall, I think the book perfectly captures the pulse of this diverse state, and I highly recommend Let's Go California 2002.

The Beatles: The Music Was Never the Same

Beatles for Beginners
Aimed at young readers, this is a decent overview of the lives and careers of the Beatles from their childhoods in Liverpool through the release of the first Beatles Anthology album. Thirty-eight black-and-white photographs of the Fab Four and other pop music stars are included, along with brief lists of recommended readings, films and videos, and other sources of information. The author generally does a good job of tracing the rise of Beatlemania within the context of the popular culture of the 1960s. Unfortunately, the book devotes many more pages to the Beatles as a cultural phenomenon than to their superb musicianship and their profound role in shaping rock music.

Sexual Domination
Russ Martin's books have a common theme: sexual domination of men and women by means of chemicals and satanic influence. If you enjoy novels in which good people are dragged into depravity but struggle to escape the sexual bonds imposed on them, Russ Martin is for you. In this book, Jennifer Young is becomes the slave of one of the leaders of the forces of evil. More erotic than frightening and more wordy than necessary.

Weird Things
...FBI agents Moulder and Sculley investigate strange murders in Gibson, Florida. This isn't just a normal town it is a freak town or if you must Circus town. It attacks without warning. Now the agents are getting very weirded out, they have to solve this A.S.A.P.

The characters are weak except one Moulder he's so cool. .... They aren't believable. The setting is especially unbelievable. How could there be a whole town of freaks it's just not possible. My book was really easy to read it was like a fourth grade book. My book was pretty short so it went to the climax pretty fast. The conflict isn't real at all how could a blob cause so much carnage it doesn't make sense. This book doesn't seem to drag at all, this book is good like that. ....

I wouldn't recommend this book it is not that good. The best part was when they talked and introduced all the different freaks. That was cool to see what special trick they could do.

Weird things
A review from Cody

FBI agents Moulder and Sculley investigate strange murders in Gibson, Florida. This isn't just a normal town it is a freak town or if you must Circus town. It attacks without warning. Now the agents are getting very weirded out, they have to solve this A.S.A.P.

The characters are weak except one Moulder he's so cool. The others are lame. I was relieved because this book was kind of dorky.

I wouldn't recommend this book it is not that good. The best part was when they talked and introduced all the different freaks. That was cool to see what special trick they could do.

Ryan, A student at mshs
A man is brutally killed in his own backyard by a foreign object. Two FBI agents are sent to investigate the death of Jerald Glazbrook. Agents Scully and Mulder find themselves in a town a freaks and side show performers. As their search intensifies for the killer more people are dying. Their suspects are anything but ordinary; Dr. Blockhead, who'd rather chew on some nail then gum, and the town's sheriff, how has a past that would stick out over most freaks in this town.

I feel his book had a plot that was sometimes misleading and confusing to read, although I did find it to have great-personalized characters. As you read deeper into the book you were able to able to get a good picture of what the characters actually looked and acted like. At no point did the author let the book drag on, there was always something happening. Whether it is another murder, or a clue to solving a murder, or another character being introduced into the story. Les Martin put a couple of unexpected twists into the plot that I never expected. At first the book seemed to be your average murder and investigation, but when agents Scully and Molder found themselves in a town of freaks they did not have any particular suspect since everyone seemed to be a suspect.

I would recommend this book to anyone that has some time on his or her hands and enjoys murder mysteries. It was not a book of great length nor the best I have read but I found it to be interesting enough to hold my interest.

What was this book really about?
Well...reviewers for Amazon seemed to love or hate this novel, for the most part. I feel rather indifferent about it. Truthfully, I would probably never have finished it if I had actual work to do at my job!

Lucy Stark is a writer's assistant whose employer, writing abroad, suddenly turns up dead. She is left the task of putting his affairs in order and looking for the rest of a manuscript he has been working on. What starts out as a possible murder mystery quickly devolves into simply a diary of an American's time spent in Italy, replete with art appreciation, affairs and lots of cappucino consumption.

This novel didn't seem to follow its initial intentions or promises, although when the end finally comes, everything is wrapped up to some satisfaction. Had the book simply been to detail an American's experience abroad and what she learned about herself along the way, I would have understood how to read it. As it is, it seems the author did a little of this, a little of that, but I cannot complain about the quality of the language and the flow of the writing. My main feeling is that this book did not AFFECT me, the way I feel a good novel should. I probably won't think about it again.

Ghost Story
I have just completed "Italian Fever" by Valerie Martin and enjoyed it tremendously. Lucy Stark goes to Italy to tidy up the affairs of a minor writer who died in an accident. While there she meets some intriguing characters, has an affair, learns more about the kind of person she really is, and is memsmerized by the beauty of Italy and the art of its famous painters and sculptors. Her descriptions are portrayed in succinct yet beautiful prose which engrosses the reader's attention. I especially loved her reaction and description of Piero della Francesca's fresco, The Resurection, which she comments on to her Italian escort while on a business trip. This novel has romance, self-revelation, mystery, ghosts, and the flavor of Italy all rolled into one. I heartily recommend it to any reader of quality fiction.

Sexy and gothic!
Having read Love: Short Stories, I couldn't imagine better writing from Valerie Martin. Boy, was I wrong! Italian Fever is one of the best pieces of modern literature I have ever read! The novel is a mixture of romance, mystery and gothic magic realism.

In Italian Fever, Lucy Stark is the assistant of an untalented author. But after the author dies in an accident, Stark goes to Italy to sort out some of her former boss's problems. Having experienced culture, beauty and art in Italy, Stark finds it difficult not to be mesmerized with the place. She, however, gets more than what she bargains for.

What I love most about this novel is Martin's description of Rome. It felt as though I was there, experiencing the art and culture in the story. This is literature at its finest! I can't recommend this novel enough!

Nothing really works
OK It wasn't clear. I won't use this. But a word to all other readers -- I've used Shettles twice and it doesn't work! (I have 3 boys).

How to Have a Girl
I have to agree with the other comment on this book. When I bought this book, I also bought the Shettles method book. The Shettles book is a lot clearer and uses scientific evidence, along with actual testimonials, to back up its theories. The author of this book directly contradicts what Dr. Shettles says (which doesn't make sense since Dr. Shettles can prove his theories and this guy cannot)and he offers no proof of his theories. I'm trying for a girl and even though I haven't started yet, I plan to use the Shettles method.

Worked like a charm!
I disagree with the other reviewers. I used this book and followed all of the instructions (no small task!) and had a girl. Maybe it was just luck, but I recommend the book to everyone. The problem is that planning a girl takes a lot of effort - charting, temperature-taking, etc. - but I found the book clear and very easy to use.

Intended for kids
I bought this book thinking it was a fun-trivia book for adults. Oops! It seems to be targeted at kids. Much of the information is common knowledge among adults, and the explanations are not terribly surprising or engaging. Furthermore, the language is rather simplified, and the whole approach smacks of a children's book (maybe ages 10-15 or so). Maybe the author went overboard in "keeping it simple, stupid"--so there's not much profound information here.

Some of this is outdated
This would be a good book if some of the material was not outdated. Alot of it is still true but it would be a good one to revise. Also it could use an index. It got old fast going through ever single question and it would be bad if you were looking for something specific. The grouping could have been better too. If you have got the time..it is a ok book. I would probably give a revised version 4 stars.

Horrid
I did not like this book because it was very horrid. I didn't like the part when the girl made fun of the door to door sale's man. Well because parents all tell us to don't talk about people. Also that Set's a bad example for younger kids. I think this book was ment for 3rd-5th grade. I think this book is supposed to be a scary story. I would reccomend this book for ages 8-11. My sister would not read this book and she loves to read. I think it's bad if a 9 yr old does not want to read a book. Any ways she would consider it scary. I would rate this book a 1.

If I had to rate the book I would give it 1 Star.

Never Buy Anything from a Door to Door Salesman
This book is ominous from the start. The girl's bad attitude, the creepiness of the salesman and the fact that he sell her mom a chopping machine foretell the possibility of some dangerous flying blades. It all ends well, but it had me turning pages to make sure that humans vanquished over the machine. A simple page turning thriller.
