An Interesting Premise That Could Have Been Written Better
The author and the series is new to me. I found the premise of the book to be somewhat plausible especially in view of the new mission of the NAACP regarding the rebel flag in the Southern states. The idea of a new nation arising from the current form of liberal government is a novell one and that it is a conservative, lessez faire, form of government makes one long for a government that will literally interpret the Constitution. Ben Raines wages war the way it is supposed to be done. Too bad our politicians won't listen. I wish Mr. Johnstone had taken more time with the book. It moved too fast for the ground he covered and there was not as much character development as I would have liked. He may have covered such detail in previous books in the series, however; those which I have not read. If you are conservative, believe in a conservative form of government, want to live your life in peace without government in your hair all of the time, you will enjoy this book.

Another Triumph!
Once again, William W. Johnstone (and his fictional hero, Ben Raines) show readers how to bring law and justice to a world in chaos. Recommended!

Pursuit Of The Mountain Man
When a German Count comes after Smoke to kill him for sport well if you have read any of the series you know that means trouble and Smoke is the man to handle it. This writer makes me think abut the men and woman who fought and died for this country and what made it great. I wish more People today would remember to think and if they are right stand up for what they believe in. I guess that is why I enjoy reading these books, but also they are well put together and good reading.

Pursuit Of The Mountain Man
Good and enjoyable reading. I like the Smoke series and this another one. When a German Count wants sport he decides to track down and kill Smoke Jensen. If you have read others of these books you will know that when you start trouble with Smoke you really have trouble. Moves along and characters are well done. I enjoy not only the stories but the thought that right wins out in the end. I think this writer says a lot that us older folks and even younger people should think about and then learn that if you are right stand up for yourself. Smoke is a man, that fights for what he beleives in. In todays world we have forgotten what our ancestors fought and died for. This makes me think and what more could you ask of any author?

Riding down the road
Mr. Johnstone's first installment of the "Rig Warrior" does not disapoint. It has been awhile since all of these book have been available and my husband and I are glad they are once again. This story revovles around Barry "Dog" Rivers and his unquinchable desire to see the unjustices in the country turned to positives. Mr. Johnstone's way of writing a story pulls you in and gets your mind moving to the possibility that maybe there are things going on out there that we don't know about (its only a thought). Read this book and enjoy a complex weaving of a tale that will leave you wanting books 2 and 3.

A return to the old William Johnstone style
Rig Warrior is a return to the older style of Johnstone. His Ashes series has, of late, not contained the veiled and not so veiled humor and critique of the current political establishment. With the re-publication of Rig Warrior, his old style of adventure and action is available again. Those who read his Ashes series will recognise the tone and content of the book. The lone man or group taking on almost impossible odds and winning. His main character, Barry Rivers, is a younger Ben Raines. He is independent, and free thinking. He respect the country but has little use for the politicians and other power brokers that run it. The story is a good action adventure yarn and has an almost beleivable plot. Rivers uncovers a Government agency that is experimenting on vets, hoeless people and illegal immegrants. The experiments are conducted in several different labs spread over the US. For any who are familiar with William Johnstone's approach, the solution adopted by Rivers comes as no surprise. All in all, the book is an excellent read and I recommend it to anyone who likes a good adventure story, with a little political commentary thrown in.

Battle In The Ashes
I have read all of the Ashes Series, and I have found that this is one of his better books.Ben Raines and his SUSA gang again get into big trouble with the USA. It is a ongoing battle, but one that must be.The story is possibley what can happen to the world if things keep on going as they are. I look forward to the next book on ASHES and I am sure it will be a continuance of the battle that just started in the "Battle in the Ashes"William Johnstone, is a great fiction writer, I have also read all of his "Mountain Men" series, and this another great bunch of books.

It was very good. The reason I gave it an 8 is because I liked The Last Mountian Man better.

Good but not his best
Smoke Jensen takes 3,500 head of cattle up into Montana to sell to the neighbor of Clint Black, a man who would try anything to desuade or prevent anyone from doing something black does not want to happen. But trying to stop Jensen is like trying to stop an 18 ft. hole in Hoover Dam with a cotton swab.

death master
I'm a big fan of William Johnstone's "Ashes" series and I love his horror novels but this one is something completely different. It's written in his same fast moving, simplistic way that his fans have come to love. His hero will sound familiar but in a unique way. If you're a fan of Mr. Johnstone's style then you will like the "Death Master."

A great tale of the American West!!
This book was the first mountain man book I have ever read besides Give Your Heart to the Hawks by Win Blevins. The hero of the book is Jamie Ian McCallister, and he settles a small valley, known as McCallister's Valley, and, throoughout the book, the sittlement is attack by various outlaws, and Jamie has to go on the warpath to get back at them. The tale also includes McCallister's sons who also do the same thing. I loved this book and I think it is a great book to start out on if you are reading westerns!

Fury Of The Mountain Man
Good, very good! I enjoy the Smoke Jensen books and this is one along the same lines as the others when he goes to help out two Mexican gunfighters that he had met in another of his books. Of course being Smoke Jensen he ends up right in the middle of the fight. Good action and moves along well. The only thing I find I don't like is he refers back(sometimes a page or more ) from other books in the series too often. If you have already read the book he is talking about it can be boring, give me something new not the same old thing. But I enjoy the the way he puts things together with words so you can really see what is going on.
