ONE OF THE BETTER MOUNTAIN MAN BOOKS
I ENJOY SMOKE JENSON WHEN HE'S PARTICUARLY NASTY AND INVENTIVE IN WAYS TO GET THOSE WHO WOULD GET HIM. AND WHEN JOHNSTONE USES THE LANGUAGE THAT THESE HARD CASES WOULD HAVE REALLY USED UNDER THE CIRCUMSTANCES. THE STORY IS GOOD. ANOTHER GOOD BOOK IN THE MOUNTAIN MAN SERIES.

Battle of the Mountain Man
I feel W. Johnstone writes a very exciting book!! In all the Mountain Man series, the way these books are written you can actually relive the old west.Smoke Jensen,& his mentor Preacher are very loyal, trustworthy, family orientated men with a steel backbone&no backup in them!!(alot of good personal values) I recommend W. Johnstone's books only to those people who truly enjoy a great western& who can relate to what the author is writing about. So go ahead "Make your own Day"buy the book and you will see, trust me the books are hard to put down.

The First Mountain Man: Blackfoot Messiah
Dadburn it if you done like a good gol'darn book about the real west then you ain't worth the powder to blow you there. Preacher is our hero who takes on the job of guiding a bunch of shave-tail dragoons toward the Big Horn to build a fort. Trouble is, there's a whole passle of indians from just about every tribe around all gathered together to stand in Preacher's way. Well, if'n you read any at all of the easy-to-read paperback books written by William Johnstone, you know Preacher will stop them.

A True Western
William Johnstone writes about the west with a passion that infects his readers. Purchased this for my son and decided to check it out. Action and authentic dialogue speed you through page after page of this well told story. Characters ring with the good and the ugly of the unruly west. A fast read.

A "presequel" (of sorts) to Watcher in the Woods
I first saw this book in the discount bin at B Daltons and picked it up mostly because of the blurb on the back cover. I found the book well written and fast paced.

The story starts out with a attack on a house owned by a brother and sister. The brother attempts to chase off the intruders with a shot gun but the results of that attempt ends up with the brother being killed and his shotgun thrown into the house bent like a horseshoe. There is some comic relief early in the book when the Sheriff while investagating the aftermath of the attack 'teases' a very religious deputy about his bad timing on copping a feel. but after that the story gets serious.

The hero of the story is a soldier of fortune who was hired by the brother to investage the stories behind the swamp and if possible to capture a 'link'. With the brother dead, the hero is hired by the sister to continue the investigation advenge her brother's death. After killing a few 'links' he brings in some doctor friends of his to perform a study of the dead links. Their findings are shocking and the verbal abuse they heap on the hero is fun to read.

The story is fast paced and has it moments like when the hero tells off/embarasses the aid to the president of the US in front of him. There are some moments in the book that will make some readers uncomfortable when the story dips a little into a hate crime with racial overtones but lets say the bad guys get theirs very shortly afterwards.

Any long time reader of Mr Johnstone's will be a little surprised with the tone of the storyline but will agree it is a well written book. A direct sequel to this book would be great but the way the book ended I guess I will have to settle for a 'next generation' type sequel of "Watchers in the woods."

If you can get your hands on a copy of this book be prepared to be scared, amused, angered and happy as well as scared again.

A Crying Shame
The story is as follows : The missing link between human and animal is alive and well and living in the wilds of Southeast America. Actually, they are not that well. They are slowly dying from attacks of savage insanity and the females are growing sterile. Just like any wild animals, they have the instinctive need see their genes continue into future generations. Unlike most animals, they are able to formulate a long-range strategic plan for accomplishing this. The males attack in packs the unsuspecting human females they can isolate. They gang-rape them and abduct them, carrying them back to their community lair to raise children. They are hoping for human offspring rather than beast so they can leave the childrren on the doorsteps of human houses and perpetuate their species by integrating their genes into the human race. The story is a well-woven complex tale which alternates between the terror of rape and the pity for a dying race facing extinction. WARNING : this book contains graphic accounts of rape and is not for children. However, it is a collectors item as an early work of William Johnstone and as a book that predates the age of politically correct censorship.

Good book gaurenteed to please.
This book is number 8 in the series and let me tell you folks that it is a great slash'em up and die book. While some of the characters are the same I am sure that if you have read this far in the series you have to agree that it is a hell of a good story.

Another winner!!!
Once again, William Johnstone has shown that he can turn the tide of this series so as to not make it boring for anyone. In keeping with the times, everyone else has raised their heads in defiance to the rebels, why not the ...? Raines and his people are pitted against the remnants of Khamsin's "Holy" forces, and the new .... Along with everyone else who is out to stop him. However, Raines has discovered something new... It seems that reports were wrong, deliberately misleading the people to believe that a lot more was destroyed than there really was. Oddly enough, the final chapter has a tear-jerking moment for anyone who is truly an American!

A scary tale of Evil and the Devil
A bad seed of a girl is born into a good family and all goes well until she turns 13 that is when she is reunited with a old Jack In The Box that her father unwittingly(?) buys in a old curio shop. The girl and the box then proceeds to wreak havoc on everybody.

This book is well written and fast paced. the history of the Jack In The Box is spooky and sounds like something that could have happened in real life. As with most of his other books I can't wait until a sequel is written about further adventures of this evil Jack In The Box.

If you can find a copy of this book I would recommend reading it during a nice sunny day as if you attempt to read it at night or during a thunderstorm you will have nightmares about Jack In The Boxes.

TERRIFYINGLY TERRIFFIC!
This book had me at the edge of my seat. This book will leave images in your mind giving you a hard nights sleep. Enjoy!

Old Warrior Finds You Can't Go Home Again
The story opens with the a nursery where unborn babies floating in man-made wombs are being brain washed. The story then cuts to a local woman whose was expecting a baby, being found dead across two state lines, from where she lived, with the unborn baby being surgically removed. The hero of the story is a person who (while fighting out in the field as a mercenary) receives word that his parents have died. By the time he can return home his parents are buried in the ground. Deciding on his way to his old hometown to retire and stay in his parents' house, the hero discovers many strange and unusal changes have occured during the twenty years since he has left town, most of the changes aren't good. The story continues at a semi-fast clip and is a hard book to put down.

One charater who appears in this book as a hero appears in another book by Mr. Johnstone as a villin (the Devil's Laughter)

The twist in the end is strange but the story begs for a sequel as many of his other horror books. I would recommend that the publisher reissue this book since many used book stores don't or won't carry this book any more and fans of Mr. Johnstone aren't going to release their copies to anyone.

A old warrior comes home to hell
I first read this book in high school and couldn't put it down. The story starts out as a old warrior (mercenary to the P.C generation) decides to retire and return home. While driving his Jag he finds that the old homestead has changed a great deal. The mystery continues when he returns to his old house and discovers that someone has cleaned, aired out and stocked the house with all his personal items.(i.e old spice and cigars that the old warrior recently decided to use) Yet NO ONE knew he was coming home until he decided it less then a day ago.

The mysteries build up as the hero discovers more strange items and finds that some of the facts don't fit. The story goes at a clip pace as the hero is finally forced to fight the evil forces of The Devil's agent.

The story stumbles a little toward the end when the hero and the Devil's agent have their final battle. The twists and mysteries abound in the end of the story is a surprise to the reader.

I hope Mr Johnstone will return to writing horror again as I would like to see a sequel to this book as well as several others that he has written.(Wolfsbane, The Uninvited, Jack In The Box, Sandman, Rocking Horse to name just a few). If you can find a copy of this book DON'T LET IT GO!

This is a really good book.
I read it in one setting. Everything he writes is great and I've read them all. He's made Falcon a legend. I can't wait for more.

The Adventure Continues
William W. Johnstone has done what I did not think was possible.... He has taken his "Eagles" series and after "killing off" the main character of Jamie Ian Mac Callister in the prior story (Scream of Eagles)... taken the series to a new level of excitement. "Rage of Eagles" tells the begining story of the Falcon Mac Callister Legend. While not using the historical references as he has done in the first four "Eagle" books... Johnstone has created a story that if you are a fan of Westerns at all... You will not be able to put down.... If you have not read the first four books in this series... (DO SO!) but this book is written so that a newcomer can enjoy the continuing saga of the Mac Callister Clan

Rig Warrior 18 wheel advenger
This book was as well done as the other two in the series , I read it when it came out in 1988 and as usual the first book in any series is the best this one is also good . The Dog is back as mean as needed and fighting for just causes everywhere . I wish Mr Johnstone would do some more books on this series and the Shapeshifter series.

The Dog is back!!
The last installment of the "Rig Warrior" series does not disappoint. You start the book finding out that Barry the Dog is very bored (the one thing in the book I doubted), after I read that line I knew this was going to be a very fast and explosive story and boy was I right. I hate to tell too much about a story, I do not want to ruin it for those who choose to read this book. What I will tell you is this book deals with terrorism and how it is here. Although this is one man's thoughts on how terriorism in our country is ignored and actually encouraged it brings forth alot of questions of how can these people be here. Barry is back and he has bone to pick with everyone who doesn't see things his way!! Read and throughly enjoy this last installment, you won't be disappointed.

Good action
This book is not the best in the series but you need to read it anyway. I have read it 3 times already and I still enjoy it. It places the Rebels against a terrorist who believes himself a religious person. The Rebels once again take up arms and start kicking the ass off of lots of people. I think the general population shall like this adition to the series.

William Johnstone is the master of the series novel!
With the Hot Fart (Ben Raines' verbage) Khamsin invading along the southern tier of America, Ben and his people discover a new threat. The Night People, cannibalistic heathens who hide in the sewers and underground of cities, have come out and made themselves known. Ben and his people must now fight both them and the Lybian in an attempt to regain America.

Very Good and worth buying.
This book by William W. Johnstone is a very good one and was worth buying if u r a big fan of Smoke Jensen and all the books about him. The only complaint i have about the book is only because i have read all of his other books and i have a problem with the fact that in this book its talks about Smoke fighting in the Civil War which if u have read his first book "The Last Mountain Man" u would know that Smoke was to young to fight and his father and brother had gone to fight and he stayed home with his mother and sister. Other than that i would recomend this book to all fans of Smoke Jensen and William W. Johnstone.

American Ninjas
Smoke and his very good friend Puma Buck have one of the enemy. Trying to get information about the rest of the bad guys the man resists. But after Buck threatens to skin him alive the Bad guy talks. Now Smoke wants to put terror in the bad guys by becoming NINJAS, something he had just read about in one of Sally's books. Dress up in black, sneek up on them in the dead of night and slit some skin...

Adventurous, and intriguing
If you have ever read any of these books (mountain man) you will know that they are very exciting. Smoke Jensen, Sally and all the rest at the Sugarloaf also Preacher, they make you feel how they do and you get to really know them. Mr.Johnstone is a great story teller and i truly enjoy his books.
