this book has a little of everything.
I really like this book. It has a little of everything. It has the goverment, CIA operative, lost tribes, Bigfoot, racists, and a cast of characters from all walks of life. The story centers around a CIA operative who while looking into some murders stumbles onto a primitive tribe in the forest of Idaho. They have civilization closing in on them and they want to come out but others of the tribe don't because they know that society probably think of them as freaks and animals. Thus begins the hostilities. It goes on and the ending makes you think there will be a sequel which I would really like to read.

What The Heart Knows
I loved this book. The love that these two share is tender, touching, and true. William Johnstone is a remarkable writer, anyone who can write so many different types of books is definately good at what he does.

A good book to read at night
This book deals with two stories that sort of intertwine with each other and could also stand apart from each other as well. But the way it is written the two stories intertwine very well.

The main bad 'guy' is a energy being that wakes up every 50 years or so and causes a little havoc before returning to sleep again. The problem this time is the creature has woken up in a small town. The 'creature' causes trouble with the sheriff with little pranks with the police radio at first but as the story progresses the creature becomes even more mean spirited and stronger.

The second story deals with a person named Sand and how his friends, wife, unborn son and his hybrid wolf/dog was killed by the upper class college boys from a neighboring town and how the then sheriff sided with the 'good old boys' against Sand after he gained some payback against the college boys.

Sand with his friends try and help the remaining residents battle the energy creature while at the same time trying to help them escape before the goverment drops "the big one" on the town in a attempt to destroy the creature.

If you haven't already read this book I will recommend that you try and get a copy of it because the ending is strange and deserves a sequel written about it.

There is some funny moments in it and if you have read his "Ashes" series then you will already know what to expect when a 5 star general responds to several news reporters' questions. The energy creature also has some funny one liners as well to sort of break the tension but Mr. Johnstone quickly draws you back in to the tension filled story.

Fab Book
I am a long time fan of Mr. Johnstone's horror titles. This book is one of my favorites. I couldn't put the book down once I read it and have read probably another four times. Makes you want to go out and buy all of the others he has written; I did!

Interesting
I admit having not read the book, but I AM familiar with the title, since Mr. Johnstone mentions it in one of the "Ashes" books as having been one of the books written by his fictional alter-ego, Ben Raines!

Not quite a sequel to the Devil's heart, kiss, touch series
Even thou the book title makes you think that it is the continuing adventures of Sam. Nydia, Little Sam and Dog. The book only mentions them is passing. This is a stand alone book dealing with a new hero to battle the forces of the Devil.

I liked the main charater Link. I wish there were more people like him and the sheriff. Link is the type of person who doesn't beat around the bush and deals with problems in his own sneaky way. plus the fact if you mess with his animals, you automatically get on his bad side.

Link is a country vet who loves animals and is trying to relax in the simple country life but strange events and a new country vet put a monkey wrench into that idea.

The story is fast paced and a little strange at times but Mr. Johnstone brings elements of the Old West and past charater names and events from his previous books into the story.

Link is very resourseful and I like the way he handles 4 'people' who were planning to set fire to his animals just to watch them burn.

The humorous elements in the book is provided by 4 'imps' who have some great one liners and do provide some laughs every now and then. The battle is fierce between Link, the imps and The Devil's agents and I can't wait until part two of the further adventures of Link is published.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of Mr. Johnstone or anyone who likes a good horror novel with some humorous parts to sort of 'break the tension' before being set up for another surprise.

one of the top five all time favorites
i had read this book when it first came out and after borrowing it to several people i had lost it and after all these years i.m buying it again because Link is one of my favorite men to date . concidering i read about thirty books a year.

My Favorite
This was the first WWJ book that I read, and I couldn't put it down. Ever since then, I've been hooked. I own over ninety of his books, and have loved every one of them. WWJ is a diverse writer who can write intriguing books about in a variety of settings. Link is my favorite WWJ character, and I still love to read this book.

dont' read the last chapter
If you loved Jane from the first book you might want to skip this one because her fate will break your heart. On the other hand Sam Jr. will make you cheer.

The best absolutely, positively, the BEST
This book is great.. it imparts just enough of the story from the devils kiss to keep you up to date while giving you a wonderful current story and cast of characters that you can follow.

It has love hate sin death and forgiveness all rolled into one.

but sensitive readers beware this is not a book for anyone who cant tolerate alot of ... violence, and .... With what i might add is vulgar language.
Everyone else read on and enjoy.
Personally i cant recommend the next one in the series it leaves much to be desired.. dont continue unless your a real true die hard William Johnstone fan!!!

Great, exiting read
The Devil's Heart is an excellent sequel to The Devil's Kiss. For those who like this book, I reccommend purchasing part three, The Devil's Touch, and a conclusion to the Devil's series, The Devil's Cat. It's only too bad William Johnstone no longer writes horror.

Kicks...
I don't know how anyone else feels about Johnstone's work but with the Ashes series I believe he can't be outdone. This book which is number five in the series is as good as the others my opinion is that if you liked number 1 you are guaranteed to like number 5

The editing is horrid, but it's extremely addictive!
Johnstone should fire his editor, or bother to run a grammer check and spelling check, but the Ashes series is addictive. The blatant knocks of our current situation touch a nerve with many people who are tired of this wishy-washy world. The plot is thin, but you still have to keep turning the pages. It's an addiction you will want to hide!

Wonderful! Can't stop and don't want to!
Ben Raines finally gets what he wants. A chance to be alone. However, that proves almost to be his undoing as he is located and pursued by two of the worst gang leaders that have come along. They're not as bad as Hartline, but enough to twist Ben's guts into such a wrinkle that he's bound and determined to rid the world of them right here and now. Again, there are not enough words, or enough room here to really say what should be said. William Johnstone has an uncanny ability to make you wonder if he has received gifted insight into the future. A future that is frightening, yet comforting to know that Ben and his people are there and ready to go!

Revenge
This is the seventh book in THE EAGLES SERIES, I think.
It is the story of Falcon MacCalister roaming the west far away from the peace and wonder of the MacCalister Valley. He has made himself a legend as an honest, fast gun, powerfull muscles and not a person you want to mess with. However, as he roams and lands in a small town in New Mexico,he meets up with two young men eager to build a reputation as, fast with a gun and tough enough to back it up. Their mistake, if they try and use MacCalister as their stepping stone. Just another great story by Johnstone.

Very descriptive and informing!
This was an excellent book! William Johnstone has a great ability to put you, as the reader, in the brush of the ambush and on the saddle of the horse. Love the way he tells the story from both sides. Never have to worry about missing a detail, very descriptive, very intense. I never was much of a novel reader until now. I want to buy all his western novels.

I couldn't put this book down! Excellent reading.
I can't wait for the next installment on this series. I will keep reading these books as long as he keeps writing them. Also writes great horror stories.

a sequel to "Hunted"
The story picks up shortly after the events at the end of the first book 'Hunted' There are some referances to the creatures from "watcher in the woods" who help out our hero as a Goverment Snafu causes several goverment agencies to attempt a massive cover up of a raid on a survivalist camp goes sour.

Our hero has his hands full trying to stay alive, keep his girlfriend safe as well as battle two older immortals who also has the ability to shape shift.

There are some close calls with the rouge goverment agents and when word leaks out about the cover up. Most of the networks refuse to broadcast it which leads into the massive resignations of top news anchors, writers and reporters and the formation of a new network called the coyote network.

This story is fast paced and I would recommend that even if you didn't read 'Hunted' the story can stand alone

The olny draw back is if you haven't read 'Wather in the woods' you might be a little confused to the referances to the "Links" who help our hero in his wolf form.

PREY
Another great character for Mr. Johnstone. I had previously read Hunted which has the same character as the man in Prey. While it is true that Mr. Johnstone deals a lot with problems in our government, he is telling it like it is. This character, Barry, is really different in that he can change into a wolf. He has been around a long time and a couple of characters from the other book also appear in this one. The plot is excellent, and believable. The characters are great. I really enjoyed this book and can only hope Mr. Johnstone will write more books with this same man/wolf. I would recommend this and the Hunted to anyone who enjoys a touch of fantasy along with a good plot and good characters and some very honest insight into the government.

Very good book
Not as good as the ashes series but very good none the less.

So-So
If you like adventure/action with a freedom slant, you'll probably enjoy this book. It was gripping, and it does definitely suck you in. Is it Moby Dick? Heck no, but it's worth a read if it's laying around, you only have a few minutes at a time, you get the picture!

Good Pulp Adventure With One Proviso
IN the 30s, when pulp adventure was king, there was a magazine called Operator 5 about America's greatest secret agent. Excellent stories, but especially noteworthy is the "Purple Invasion" set of stories where Op 5 had to contend with foreign invaders who had seized control of America. The "Ashes" series rings with echoes of those great pulp stories. After WW3, America is in grips of a brutal, yet American run, dictatorship. Ben Raines is the head of the Rebels trying to overthrow the ruling govt. and return America to democracy. The first 3/4 of the book show Raines in his struggle with the ruling party. The last quarter is a grim account of the world being swept by the Black Plague. All in all, it's an exciting and worthwhile adventure with one proviso. Normally I don't mind a little sex and violence in my action fiction. Heck, violence is an integral part of any men's adventure fiction. What is disturbing about this book is the sex and there is plenty of it. However, almost all of the sex portrayed in this book is brutal rape. When the secret police are trying to get information from anyone in this book, they are, for the most part, raped, sodomized or forced to watch loved ones undergo the same treatment. A couple of incidents would have been fine to show characterization of the men in power, but Johnstone goes way overboard. It was a bit disturbing

Johnstone keeps the action going!
Fire in the Ashes is the perfect continuation of the "Ashes" series. Bill takes the reader onward from where "Out of the Ashes" left off, and provides a lot of flashback so that even the reader who starts with this one can understand the storyline. The flashback sequences are terrifically done and masterfully crafted. Ben Raines dogged determination to pull America up from destruction is enough to have everyone raising the banner of freedom.

The Johnstone formula we've grown to love.
This book originally came out back in the 80s, but it stillholds up. Key Lessard is a great protagonist, trying to figure out theleader of the Nazis taking over his hometown. For a change, the bad guys actually manage to get the drop on one of Johnstone's characters, leading to a great second act. Violence, right-wing political views, and lots of guns are the reason I keep reading this stuff (now I sound like a crazed redneck). Blood Land won't disappoint.

Different book, same storyline
Another classic Johnstone action/adventure novel with conservative politcal views. Johnstone has been my favorite author because I agree with most of his characters viewpoints. However, I would like to see Bill write different novels from time to time. I miss his horror novels from the 80s.

Classic Bill Johnstone-characters all can relate to.
Characters such as Key Lassard have made Johnstone a favorite among mens-adventure readers. He really makes you think and take a good look at yourself as well as the world around you.His plots and the ideology of his characters are not pollitcally correct-they just speak the truth!
