This book is great
It is hard to describe this book without sounding like a bookseller. It is explains the most complex concepts in very simple and elegant "cartoons", so it has the additional advantage of being fun to read. I read the whole thing just a couple of months.

WOW
Some concepts, seemingly obscure and esoteric became intuitively obvious with this book. A great ``picture book'' that will certainly complement any standard textbook in chaotic dynamics. I may sound like a bookseller. But, hey, this book is good!

Edmund Burke and India: Political Morality and Empire (Pitt Series in Policy and Institutional Studies)
Published in Hardcover by Univ of Pittsburgh Pr (Txt) (1997)
Author: Frederick G. Whelan
Amazon base price: $49.95
Average review score:

Whelan Knows Burke Well
Whelan is the sort of scholar rarely found in this age of academic narcissism. Not kowtowing to fashionability, Whelan presents examples Burke's writings on India in a balanced, considered manner, without including the tempting digressions that could make this a western - non-western multicultural ax grind. Every Burke enthusiast will benefit from this latest excursion into Burke's lesser known works.

Well-Expressed Summary of Burke, Given in Context of India
Whelan has done a marvelous job at interpreting Burke's political philosophy through the window of Burke's writings on India, Empire, and in particular, the Warren Hastings trial.

Edmund Burke: 1730-1784
Published in Hardcover by Oxford University Press (1999)
Author: Frederick Lock
Amazon base price: $150.00
Used price: $110.95
Average review score:

Balanced and thorough, biography as it should be
Of the various styles of biographies I've read, I think I prefer what Lock has achieved here. It's definitely not the kind of page-turner which Robert Caro delivers, nor is it heavily weighed down with details such as De La Grange has given us with Gustav Mahler. Instead, Lock gives us intelligently written background surrounding the issues and people as they arise; judicious use of Burke's letters (and letters to him) as well as his writings; and details that help bring the era to life. He also brings the themes together, which means the telling is not a simple chronology. Lock gives us all sides of Burke, too: not just the politician and the family man, but the brother and the farmer. What I also like about this book is that Lock does not hesitate to criticize Burke when his behavior is less than ethical or when Burke's arguments are disingenuous. It's a critical examination, and Lock doesn't dumb it down. (I can't wait for volume 2, although my checkbook can.)

A Great Book on A Great Man
This will become the standard biography of Burke - but this book is not just for scholars: anyone with an interest in 18th century politics and culture will benefit from reading this work.

The narrative is well written, with much detail and necessary (but not too basic) background detail; overall it keeps the reader's interest.

Burke's own works are analysed thoroughly, within the framework of his life.

The only book I've ever read that made me weep.
What else do I need to say? This book takes you through this couple's relationship like you are living it yourself. I fell in love with her, just like he did, and she hurt me when she hurt him. I dearly wish Frederick Barton had written some more.

An off beat love story
El Cholo Feeling Passes is a great book of love and misunderstanding. A young couple living together go through all phases of a relationship. Ultimatly they break up and go their seperate ways but the ending will grab you. If you're a fan of off-beat slice of life love stories, give this one a try

Electronic and Radio Engineering
Published in Hardcover by McGraw-Hill (1955)
Author: Frederick Emmons, Terman
Amazon base price: $23.50
Average review score:

Very Good book gone out of print
This is it ! This is THE Electronics and Radio Book explaining
the concepts ranging from Network theory to Electronics to
Communication theory to Communication Systems. But here is the
difference it has ORIGINALITY.First of its kind and it is
the only book stressing on Wave theory and QED complex amplitude
stuff.

MOST IMPORTANT ASPECTS
1.This book coverage on Transmission lines theory is unparallel
and uses none other than Quantum Electrodynamic Models(QED)
for explaining the Transmitted,Reflected,transmission waves.
No other book even Krauss book does this.
2.This book is having a beautiful treatment on Waveguides
and cavity resonators.
3.The use of Phasors to illustrate the time developments
of AM and FM waves.

Here is the list of chapters if you are curious
1. The Elements of a system of Radio Communication
2. Circuit Elements
3. Properties of Circuits and Lumped Constants
4. Transmission Theory
5. Waveguides and Cavity Resonators.
6. Fundamental Properties of Electron Tubes.
7. Electron Optics and Cathode-ray tubes.
8. Voltage Amplifiers for Audio Frequencies.
9. Voltage Amplifiers for Video Frequencies.
10.Power Amplifiers.
11.Negative Feedback.
12.Tuned Voltage Amplifiers.
13.Vacuum tube Oscillators.
14.Amplitude Modulation.
15.Detectors and Mixers.
16.Frequency Modulation.
17.Wave Shaping and Pulse techniques.
18.Microwave tubes.
19.Power for operating Vacuum tubes.
20.Transistors and related Semiconductor devices.
21.Propagation of Radio Waves.
22.Antennas
23.Radio transmitters,Receivers and Communication Systems.
24.Television.
25.Radar

Though Vacuum tubes are dated. The replacement with transistor
OPAMPS and ICS can be very fast once the entire domain of
Electronics and Communications is realised using Vacuum tubes.
And this is the only book which covers the entire domain in
the way of a Physicist.

Well worth the difficulty of finding it!
Radio engineering, by Frederick E. Terman, is one of the seminal works of radio electronics engineering and technology. For anyone interested in vacuum tube circuitry and its design, this volume is highly reccommended. The information is arranged in an orderly, easily read manner, and the mathematcal foundations of many of the concepts we take for granted are laid out in simple terms, so that understanding is forthcoming. This 2" thick, heavy book (unless you get a copy printed during WWII when paper was made of thinner stock) takes the reader from the foundations of the art, quickly into a place where the highest knowledge of those days are explored. A "must-have" reference for any serious student of the art of vacuum tube technology. If you are going to build a tube-type power supply, audio or RF amplifier, oscillator, or an entire radio communications system, this book is for you.

A definite five star!
This CD ROM for Microbiology is excellent! I am so impressed with the animation and variety of topics it covers. It's really helping me better understand the lectures and textbook readings. I'm sure many other students would be interested in purchasing this CD. I think it is totally worth buying.

Greatest study aid got me through the class
The interactivity of this CD-ROM helped me tremendously in my microbiology class. I don't think I could have passed without it.

Excellent book for college drafting course.
This is an excellent college level text.I particularly like the detailed "real world" drafting problems for the students. Also it has a very good apppendix. It is comprehensive enough that we use it in three different courses here at Vincennes University.

EXTREMELY HELPFUL
I have had this book in my drafting library for some time now. I am always using it and recommending it. The book is laid out so that you can go from beginning drafting up through advanced. It not only says what the standards are, but walks you through drafting technology so that you understand why they are like they are. I believe that anyone that is going to be doing drafting should have this in their library.

The best advice for writers by the best advisor and writer
I must say, that when I first picked this book up, I was a bit skeptical. It was wrapped in plastic giving me no idea of what was in it, and it was by some publishing company I never heard of. But, being an impulse buyer, I paid for it, and brought it to a coffee shop where I continued to read and read, on the way home, while watching television, and even when I went to bed, and did not put it down until I read the whole thing. As a writer and fellow fan of Faulkner, I highly recommend this book to any student or fan (what's the difference, though?) of Faulkner's writings, and especially to any writers out there, and most of all, any Faulkner teachers. Faulkner is asked any question you can think of in this book, from certain meanings in his, "The Bear", to the long time controversy about the order of sections in "The Sound and the Fury", to the Adlers in "As I Lay Dying", all the way to why he prefers the Old Testament to the New. He even puts down Henry James in this book, and talks about his greatest influences on his writing, his favorite books (such as Cervantes' Don Quixote) and even puts in some good advice to aspiring authors, and how they should take writing, and even advice on how to write in the traditional Southern Gothic style. Truly a magnificent book that deserves top priority to any fan or teacher of Faulkner, or any writer in general! A masterpiece!!!

Foundations of Hegel's Social Theory: Actualizing Freedom

Buy This!
First, I must warn everyone that I have not read the entire book, but was extremely impressed with it after only reading one chapter! I had the pleasure of taking Prof. Neuhouser's class on social and political philosophy; Chapter 2 was cited as secondary reading as a supplement to Rousseau's Second Discourse and Social Contract. Prof. Neuhouser has an uncommon ability in both lecture and print to elucidate the material in such a way as to make it accessible without dumbing it down -- very helpful for someone who has no phil. background (like me!). I couldn't afford to buy a copy of this book right now, but I would if for just the deeper understanding of Rousseau it affords me. I'm sure anyone who has some familiarity with Hegel would be able to appreciate this book all the more!

Bold Insights Into Social Theory
Frederick Neuhouser has a great talent for bringing out Hegel's meaning. Although he claims only to elucidate Hegel, this work is tantamount to an original contribution to social theory. Specifically, he contributes strongly to understanding the way that state and society can serve as positive conditions for freedom or as parts of freedom itself. Neuhouser does not intentionally take on the claims of the opposing view held by conservative political theorists, but his work indirectly provides one of the most compelling refutations of the subjectivist approach of contemporary conservative political theory that I have ever read. Contemporary political and economic theory are, in my view, in Neuhouser's debt for this enlightening treatment of the social and political realms. Readers will appreciate the fact that he conveys these ideas through graceful prose unmarred by impenetrable jargon.
