Who's the center of attention? Baby!
My son loves this story! He is 14 months old, and we checked this out from the library 3 weeks ago. He has wanted us to read it to him every night before he goes to bed. It's perfect at bedtime, because it ends with the baby going to sleep after the most wonderful day you can imagine. Though it's Daddy's birthday party that's brought everyone to the house, baby is the one that everyone wants to kiss and hug.

Helen Oxenbury's illustrations are incredible, the way the people seem to have real weight and personality. I especially love the baby, and there's one drawing of him holding his teddy bear, wrapped in his blanket, with his thumb in his mouth, which is EXACTLY the way my son looks when he's tired and sleepy, getting ready for bed. Of course, my son's Asian/Jewish, not African American, but this book is truly universal.

Excellent and upbeat story!
My two year old absolutely loves this book! It was the first book he received 2 years ago and he really enjoys all the characters, especially Nannie, Gran Gran and Big Cousin Ross. I do change the language a little bit so that it's gramatically correct, but once I got over that obstacle, I really love it too. And we do read it every night. As a matter of fact, I had to order another copy because the first one got torn up by my son's little hands. Excellent addition to any library.

We love this book SO MUCH!
I have a habit of browsing bookstores in every place I visit and selecting a book each for my daughter (age 5) and son (age 1). I picked this book up in CA and loved it immediately! I knew it would be a hit with both the kids and it was. My son completely identifies with the "baby" and loves to point to him on every page. At the end of the story we all hug, kiss, and try to eat him! I am sending copies to my best friends. It's always great to see a lovable African-American tale.

Owning a peice of myself...
I really loved this book. It was my very first book I got. Of course I got it because my name is Angelina. When I was little I used to think the book was actually about me! I own the first publication of this book and noticed that in the original one I've got it says "Santa Clause" and in the new one that my little cousin has it says "Father Christmas". I don't understand the change. Although I still recommend this book for any little girl who loves to dance, or who's name is Angelina!

Nice book
I came across Angelina's books a while ago. ...Great book, speaks to the kids for real

Angelina Books
This series is really terrific. My 4 year old daughter loves them...very high quality and well written.

Baas on the Bus
It is a delightful story, one I know our children will enjoy.

Trying Times
Baas on the Bus shows old and young alike that all God's Creatures will have trying times, but always we will find the kindness and caring of The Good Shepherd to help us through. What an encouraging book! I recommend it!

Baas On the Bus
This a very amazing story. I have shared this story with a lot of children, and they are captivated by how the sheep felt. When you read this childrens book it gives you moments of saddnes but then a happy feeling at the end. The illustrations is cute but sharply to the point. I would highly reccomend this book for any age.

The best book about Bach Flower Remedies for animals
This is the best book than I see about Bach Flower Remedies for animals. She's easy to understand and clearly in hers explanations. It's a pocket guide for all days.

Real-life cues on how to choose remedies to help your animal
Each of the Bach Flower Essence remedies is described in a section in this book. Following the general description is a section describing the behaviors and characteristics of various species (horse, dog, cat, bird, etc) which are particularly helped by the remedy, along with suggestions for other Flower Essences to use or combine. This is the first book that I turn to when I'm working to select a Bach Flower Essence remedy, because it focusses so well on *animal* issues.

Excellent reference guide for animal remedies
Like other reviewers I was so frustrated with the small amount of information for using flower essences for animals. If you could find it only some of the essences were given for certain emotional problems. I have a dog who was snapping at family members without provocation and without warning. He does have hip dysplasia so I attributed it to pain. I tried to minimize his pain with a joint care supplement, occasionally aspirin, and I tried behavioral training, nutritional supplements, nothing had an effect on his unprovoked snapping. Finally I found this book which had complete information on flower essenses so I decided to try them. So far it's been eight months since he started on them and no episodes of snapping since! This book goes over each flower essence, what it can be used to treat, what are some of the symptoms shown by animals that need these essences, which ones can be used together and how to administer them. If you are having a behavior problem with your pet and you have ruled out a physical illness as a cause check out this book. It is an invaluable reference and it may lead you to the answer to your problem.

A reader's choice
I have just read a book called walker of time and it was amazing.
I would recommend it for people aged from 10 to 50.

It is about a Hopi indian boy called Walker who travels back in time 600 years. While he is travelling back in time a young white boy manages to get zapped back as well. Walker knows he's been sent back for a reason, but what??

It is half an adventure and half a sad story.

best book in the world
My dad bought this book for me a few years ago and I didn't think i would like it but i tried it out anyway. it was the best book ever. i lent it out to so many people that i never got it back but everyone who read it loved it.

The best book ever!
A few years ago my mom got me this book for my birthday, and I thought I'd try it out. It turned out to be the best book I have ever read, and I am not exagerating! I have read it every year since I got it, and I strongly suggest you read it, and realize what I'm talking about. The adventure and suspense is great, as well as the dialogue and strong characters you will want to meet. Take my word for it, once you pick it up, you'll never want to put it down!

This is the one to buy!
I bought this book unseen from Amazon (based on the other reader reviews) and I love it! Before buying, I looked at these 2 other books in a bookstore and was not satisfied with their contents: 1) Winslow Homer: Artist and Angler focuses only on Homer's passion for fly fishing; 2)The Watercolors of Winslow Homer by Miles Unger (published by Norton) has a nice variety, but too many of the watercolors are printed across the gutter of the book, thus ruining the effect. This book by Cooper is lovely - It is based on an exhibition of Homer's watercolors that took place in the mid-80s, and so is comprehensive. It has a wonderful variety of all of Homer's watercolors spanning his entire career, and is nicely written. The watercolors are beautifully reproduced (not in the gutter) on fine-quality paper and the book itself is nicely designed. It is just beautiful.

An excellent book
This book provides a great analysis of Winslow Homer's growth as an artist. The author uses each chapter to analyze a different period of Homer's life as he, basically, self-taught himself through observation and experimentation based on where he lived, whether it was in the Bahamas, England, or the Northeast Atlantic coast of the United States. The pictures within the book are very good quality. The author emphasizes analysis of Homer's work over actual biographical information. If you are looking for more of a biographical-type book of Homer read Lloyd Goodrich's book Winslow Homer. Enjoy!

In Awe of Homer
Since seeing a show of Winslow Homer's works a few years ago, I have been in awe of this artist's talent and versatility. So it was natural for me to pick up this beautiful and informative book which focuses on his watercolor career. In addition, the author gives us Homer's earlier background as an oil painter and illustrator. She is certainly well-qualified to write about Homer---she holds the position of Curator of American Paintings and Sculpture at the Yale University Art Gallery.

The color plates in this book are gorgeous and the text gives good information about Homer, his life, times, and techniques. It was a delight for my eyes!

In 1873, at the age of 37, Homer began serious work with watercolor while in Gloucester, Massachusetts. These paintings were characterized by broad brushstrokes and extensive use of light and color.

The Gloucester watercolors began Homer's lifelong pattern: he would focus for a certain amount of time on a singular theme inspired by a particular location. Some of these themes included rural life, especially childhood, and seascapes/marine scenes. He lived for periods of time in Gloucester; Cullercoats, England; Prout's Neck, Maine; the Bahamas and Cuba;, the Adirondacks; Quebec; Bermuda; and Florida. His need for privacy led him to live in somewhat remote locations, and during these years he was constantly experimenting with new techniques. Prout's Neck was his home base for his last 30 years although he often spent time in other places during that period. It was in Cullercoats (1881-82) that he developed his mature watercolor technique and his love of sea themes which he painted for the rest of his life.

Homer's late works are very thought provoking, often showing heroic subjects or themes; they show nature's beauty and its power and humans' mortality.

Homer lived a very solitary life, never truly realizing how really famous he was. He died at the age of 75, his last five years spent even more withdrawn from society and battling many illnesses.

Wonderful book to read slowly
This morning I finished reading a lovely book, _The Agony of the Leaves_ by Helen Gustafson, who is the tea buyer for Chez Panisse in Berkeley. The title refers to a description of what happens to tea leaves when boiling water is poured over them; they contort and twist, releasing their flavor.

The book is subtititled "The Ecstasy of My Life in Tea," and it's a charming chatty thing about tea cultivation and technology and history, woven in with reminiscences of tea parties from childhood to middle age. I've been reading it a few minutes at a time, while my tea brews in the morning.

A sweet book for friends
I was afraid this was going to be another restaurant-puffery book, but I was so pleasantly surprised! The engaging stories and accompanying recipes were charming. In fact, I borrowed this book from the library and then ran out and bought three copies to give away as gifts and one copy for myself!

inspiring
This lady's knowledge and talents are utterly wasted at Chez Panisse. She really needs her own creative space where people who would prefer to give Chez Panisse a pass could congregate to enjoy tea in all of its varieties. I would love to enjoy a pot of white tea some afternoon, but the clientele and snobbery of that establishment would ruin it.

Good, Brief Review
Having read many books on Alzheimer's, I found this one to be particularly useful, especially as a reference since it is presented an easy to use question and answer format. The authors address a lot of questions related to the social and emotional aspects of dealing with the disease. It is brief, but it is intended to be to the point. Definately worthwhile.

Patient/family gives this 5 stars
A patient and his wife, particiating in the Mild Cognitive Impairment study, were looking for information on AD as he had just converted to a diagnosis of Alzheimer's. Their response to this book was that we should give a copy to everyone who comes into our Center. The wife has read other books and given lukewarm responses, so this was really a significant recommendation.

This is a wonderful, compassionate book.
Since I have been fortunate not to have any dealings with Alzheimer's Disease, I read the book and came away with a different perspective. This is not only a book about dealing with the specific disease, but can be applied to any situation that looks or is hopeless. It is a book about how to live your life successfully whether you have two weeks or twenty years. The authors have incorporated much of their own life philosophies in this question/answer format; and the reader is the benefactor. The compassion and caring of these two dedicated authors is evident on each page. I hope the book continues to fall into the right hands. I truly believe it can make a difference in how we perceive and define the process of dying.

Exactly what I was looking for!!
I just received my book yesterday and spent hours looking at it and making templates. I can't wait to start my quilt. These patterns are exactly what I've been looking for and I can see endless possibilities for quilts and wall hangings.

the Best
I love applique and these are so great, but I also love to do woodburning and these patterns are great for that too. I especially like the cover girl and have put her on a pillow and will make more pillows as gifts with these patterns. I really like the faces covered with the bonnets.

Each project opens with a color portrait of a finished work
Helen R. Scott's Bonnet Girls examines applique block designs which present eighteen Bonnet Girls, their children and pets in over thirty interchangeable props and backgrounds. Use this to recreate patterns of the past: each project opens with a color portrait of a finished work and provides pattern templates, materials dimensions and needs, and everything needed for a finished product.
