I would have no hesitation to recommend this to anyone who wants to create their own little piece of beauty.

Why? Well, our son LOVED this book. It surprised us, because the book only has 4 pictures in it. But that doesn't seem to matter to him. He asks us to read the "Tickle Book", as he calls it, over and over again. And he smiles and laughs all the way through it.
So what's in the book? Well, the first 2-page picture has 3 toddlers playing in the mud. Each child is doing something different, so there is a lot to look at on the page. The next 2-page picture shows the toddlers having a bath. At this point, our son starts chanting "bathie, bathie," and looks at us with eyes that say he wants to have a bathie too. The next 2-page picture shows the children getting their hair brushed (except for the one child with no hair). Since this is another activity our son enjoys, he laughs at this too. The final 2-page spread shows the toddlers getting tickled. At this point, it is a good idea to tickle your son/daughter. I know our son certainly enjoys it!
This book has some nice features. Each of the three children are of a different race, so your child gets exposed to racial diversity. Also, the book is oversized, which makes the large pictures that much more cinematic, kind of like a wide-screen movie, only in book form. And finally, the images in this book are simple, yet playful. What I mean by this is that there isn't a lot of detail per page, but the detail you do see is interesting enough to pull your child right into the book.
In short, we highly recommend this book because it seems to be able to keep our son's attention for long periods of time. And hey, if a book can keep a toddler's attention for more than five minutes, there has to be something special about it, doesn't there?

The two lived lives singularly devoid of apologies, half-efforts, or excuses, living it largely on their own terms, based on their own labors and ingenuity. Early in the 1930s they struck out from New York City to escape the Depression and social convention by starting a revolutionary experiment in rural Vermont. In many respects the experiment succeeded, yet they were never able to transform it from a personal adventure to one more largely social and community-based in the Vermont setting. With the coming of ski resorts and encroaching exurbia in the early 1950s, the Nearings moved once again to rural Penobscot Bay in Maine to start again.
Of course, in due time they were suddenly "discovered" by the baby boomers and the counterculture in the late 1960s, and became the elder statesmen of the 'back-to-the-land' movement of the late sixties and early seventies. In all this, Scott and Helen continued in their commitment to a socially aware, civically responsible, and environmentally sustainable way of living. By the time Scott died at age 100 in the early 1980s, thousands of curious counterculture hopefuls made the pilgrimage to visit with the Nearings at their celebrated farm in rural coastal Maine.
This is a lovely, thoughtful, and wise book, full of the almost endless love and care and compassion Helen Nearing brought to all of her endeavors for her many decades of purposeful and socially responsible living. This book is no small treasure; it looms large and lovely for those who are aware of the incredible journey the Nearings made as fellow citizens, and also of the loving and special relationship these two rugged individualists shared. I have read it several times, and love having it on my bookshelf. I suspect you will too.

Mary Helen and Shuford Smith recognize that successful retirement is a process requiring much more than choosing a pleasant place to live. Lots of decisions, opportunities and challenges accompany the retirement journey, and the authors offer excellent tools for addressing them. Some of the tools are self-evaluative, while others look outward, pointing to other avenues we can explore along the way.
In fact, part of the book's success stems from the fact that it provides sound advice on a variety of topics without getting bogged down on any one subject. Instead, it offers suggestions about other resources--books, documents, organizations, web sites, etc. The web sites, especially, extend our reach in remarkable new ways.
The highlight of this book for me, however, is the way it is written. Every time I pick it up, I feel as if I'm being introduced to yet another member of a circle of wise friends. The authors draw much of their material from interviews with retired people, and nuggets from those conversations are sprinkled liberally throughout the book. These new friends are people who have done it right--or who have learned from a mistake or two-and I mean to pay attention to what they have to say.
The chapter on financial issues alone is worth the price of admission. The authors, experts at "working the web," sift through the mountain of information available for the nuggets that will help you make an informed decision.
If you yearned to see Alaska but considered it too expensive or thought a condo on a golf course would be a tranquil place to live, read this book before you make any decisions.
The Retirement Sourcebook covers nothing less than the entire gamut of human experience from stress and living wills to how to get rid of junk mail.
You'll be referring to it for years to come.

it was indeed a pleasure to read and in the future, if you do read it, i hope you injoy.
thats my review! i hope i helped!
Many times I couldn't put this book down, as often it brought tears to my eyes pondering these people and events. Marina certainly was one of the most facinating and misunderstood women in all of history. If more people heard her story it would certainly be the subject of a grand Hollywood production it is that amazing. I honestly don't know how she has escaped attention for so long.
Read this book and you'll understand.
After searching I found this book and ordered it.
What a great read! Rarely do historical charactors come alive and inspire us as much as this one did for me.
I suspected Marina was a facinating woman but thanks to Helen Gordon I know.
How this story of an 18 year old Indian slave girl who was almost certainly singularly responsible for Cortes' success escaped attention I don't know.
Marina had to be one of the most intelligent and clever people who ever lived to pull off her feats.
Get this book and enjoy a story you'll never forget.
