Wrox keeps getting worse.
I was hoping this would be the sequel to the awesome beginners asp database book by John Kauffman. It was not even close. This book trys to cover so many platforms that it ends up not covering anything very well. The examples are terrible and confusion will set in after the second chapter. I have found that with Wrox books, if there is more than one person on the cover, then it will stink up the place.

Not bad for a Database programmer
My favorites were Section 5,7 and 8. The case studies were okay. Good cover on MTS and Novell Directory Services with ASP.

ASP Data
As a reviewer for this book I have read the book from cover to cover. The strong point about this book is that it covers many different aspects of data access. If you are somewhat new to ASP this book will show the ropes on ADO, XML and how to mix data from many different sources. If you are an experienced developer this book covers many areas that will interest you - data warehousing, the use of several different DB other than the very familiar SQL Server and non-realtional data sources. I have taken my copy of this book to work and everyone wants to borrow it.

Good book, but out of date for picking mutual funds
This must have been a very helpful book when it was first published in 1996. It provides a good discussion of the financial issues one faces at retirement...income, risks, investment diversity. It also reviews good mutual fund bets for one retiring. Unfortunately the usefulness of the 1996 fund recommendations has diminished significantly. It's time for an update!

Early Virginia Families Along The James River
Lots of family names are listed, but unfortunately only for one County, namely Prince Georges County. Also, the front cover states this book is "Volume II". Where are the other Volumes and what do they contain?. This book was not properly described snd had it been, I would not have ordered it. It will serve some well, but I'm sending it back.

So-so guide, lots of room for improvement
Here are my thoughts on this book.

Pros: 1. Very reasonably priced as a comprehensive review book and supposedly a money back guarantee.
2. It is current and up to date (as of the April 2003 exam)
3. It has a pretty good variety and quantity of examples and practice problems.

Cons: 1. There are a large number of errors in the example and practice problems. I found at least 50 errors in using this book as a review guide and it is difficult, especially on some of the example problems where I would wonder for half an hour where I went wrong. Some of the errors are obvious, others are difficult or near impossible to spot if you are trying to relearn this material and remember very little. I am sure there are significantly more errors since my review did not cover the book comprehensively and I'm sure I missed a lot as well.
2. The text is not very well written. Some sections go into too much detail while others simply scratch the surface. There were times when I learned more from reading the EIT handbook than from this review book.
3. Lastly, I was a little disappointed when I went to take the practice exam and I found several identical questions to the practice problems provided in the different chapters. The least they could have done was make sure not to reuse questions so that when we'd like to take the practice exam we haven't just seen the questions from review sections.

Unit problem
This book is quite good but its usability is lost to a great extent because it is not written in Metric units. Also, chapters on computer application are not well written

Mistakes abound in this disappointing book
Texas certainly needs a good book on its flag history; unfortunately, "Flags of Texas" isn't that book. This is a revision of "A Concise History of Early Texas" (1964), which itself was based on the Mamie Wynne Cox's greatly flawed "The Romantic Flags of Texas" (1936).

Mistakes abound--the silly conception of the "Indian Flag," the use of archaic French and Spanish flags no longer in use at the time of the exploration of Texas, the use of the current Mexican flag when the text speaks of "Mexico's Historic Flag," a discussion of the "De Zavala Flag" when no such flag existed, the apocryphal designation of Charles Stewart as the designer of the current Lone Star Flag, and the statement that the Confederate "Star and Bars Flag" was "the first official Confererate flag." There is no bibliography, probably because most--if not all--of the research came from reading Mamie Wynne Cox's book.

Fortunately Texas flag scholarship is improving with newer works such as Alan K. Sumrall's "Battle Flags of Texas in the Confederacy" and flag entries in "The New Handbook of Texas."

Very Dissappointing
The authors didn't even know the difference between Jesse Livermore & Edwin Lefevre. In the bio about Edwin Lefevre, the authors simple pull segments from Reminiscences of A Stock Operator to describe Lefevre's life - They thought he was the main character in the book!! They write, "Edwin Lefevre was a self-styled Stock Operator from the early 1900s, who had been in the speculative game since he was 14".

The authors didn't even know that Lefevre was a writer (an author of more than 1/2 a dozen books) & that Reminiscences was about Jesse Livermore.

The above gives you an idea about how well this book was researched!

Save your money!
