A vintage Tasha Tudor classic!
This book offers everything that Tasha Tudor fans enjoy most about her work: the illustrations are lovely and evocative of rural New England, the tale is one of homespun charm, and its holiday theme is one that families can enjoy through generations. If you like Tasha Tudor, you'll probably want to buy at least two copies: one to give to a loved one, and one to keep and cherish for yourself.

Fondest Memories
I received a copy of this book over 25 years ago. My father read the book to my family every Christmas Eve and now my husband reads it to our children. The book is a sweet story of little girls and their best friends, their dolls. I would recommend the books highly to anyone with a little girl and am thrilled to see it has been reissued.

Review of Tasha Tudor's "First Graces"
This little collection of short prayers (21 in all) is absolutely wonderful. Many are familiar, old prayers that you will surely recognize, but many are not so well-known. Tasha Tudor's illustrations are just BEAUTIFUL and inspiring. There are different prayers for special occasions, such as, 'A Birthday Grace' and 'For Thanksgiving', and an everyday prayer, 'For School'. Most of the prayers are, as the title suggests, graces, to be said at mealtime. My children rush to get First Graces out of the drawer to say the prayer at dinner-time. The book has been very special to our whole family, with verses simple enough for the kids to understand, and powerful enough to move us all. It's a tiny, sweet gem.

School Censorship
This book is significant to me mainly because I had to defend it in a case of censorship! In 1996 I was the librarian of an elementary school on Long Island, I job I had for ten years previously. My principal received a complaint about the book and in the interests of political correctness removed it from the shelf. My staff association and the local professional organization I belonged to at that time were instrumental in seeing that the book was returned. I have a different job now, but I recently bought a copy of this book just to remind me of the time I stood up to the censors. I firmly believe that censorship, whether from the left or the right, is wrong.

Gorgeous and informative book!
For anyone who wants to learn more about "The Secret Garden" and its author--where the original garden really was, how an English robin differs from an American robin, how to make a nesting station for birds in your garden, what "oatcakes" and "doughcakes" are and how to make them (along with other recipes from the book), how to plant a miniature secret garden, how to make a windchime from keys like the one that unlocked the Secret Garden, and lots more! Wonderful gift. Tasha Tudor illustrations.

Delightful
As a long-time fan of Tasha Tudor's gentle, nostalgic art, I confess that I would find almost anything illustrated by her to be wonderful. But two things about this special title are especially delightful. One is the miniature size... it makes me think of Tasha's little catalogs and books for dolls that she would painstakingly create. The other is the psalm itself. Where else is there a text so gentle and comforting as this verse? The images are perfect - Tasha's signature old-world style captures the vision of peace and care that the words express. I recommend this little title to anyone.

beautiful, quality book!
If you love to snuggle up with a wonderful cookbook to read, buy this one! I've had this book for at least 10 years and I still pull it off the shelf to look at the wonderful illustrations by Tasha Tudor and read the interesting anecdotes. The book is divided into chapters, each reflecting a holiday or cherished event -- from Easter to New Year's Open House to Picnic by the River -- and opens with a short story on the family traditions so associated. I like it most because it is both modern and quaint at the same time. As for the recipes, I must admit I haven't tried very many...

One of the best books ever written.
I first read The Secret Garden many years ago. I loved it then and I still love it now. I believe it is one of the best children's books ever written. It combines fantasy, mystery, and history with a wonderfull plot. No matter how old I am when I read it, or how long it has been since I last read it, I enjoy it imensely. I strongly recomend buying it or borrowing it from your library. The Secret Garden certainly is a true classic.

An excellent, traditional story book...
This book contains many of the classic fairy tales, Cinderella, Thumbelina, Rapunzel, Jack and the Beanstalk, etc. It is beautifully illustrated. I loved this book as a child and fortunately saved it for my own children who also love it. It is very unfortunate that Platt & Munk children's classics are no longer published in some form.
