This paper doll set, like the others, has a great deal of charm and a lot of character. In this case, the characters are also namable and have beautiful clothing items and the ever-helpful hints on the inside of the cover and back. I think this will appeal to many girls, especially those who like dressing up...these are a great deal of fun.

A beautiful collection of paper dolls with excellent reproductions of original costumes worn by some of the most famous and glamorous stars of the thirties. I purchased this collection when I was in my teens and still have it in my collection today. I highly recommend Glamorous Movie Stars of the Thirties for your paper doll collection, Tom Tierneys work is fantastic!

Tom Tierney's paper doll books from Dover are wonderful as teaching aids for students of all ages; I use them for college freshmen and sophomores, and my students love seeing the costumes and getting a visual image of the characters and the "look" of the plays. The Shakespeare dolls are amusing because they are Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor (as seen in the film version of "The Taming of the Shrew" of course!), but the costumes are lovely and very detailed. I heartily recommend this book for anyone who teaches Shakespeare -- either for class use or as a personal possession!

This is one of the most beautiful sets of paper dolls I have, well drawn with great attention to detail and short historical notes on each dress inside the back cover. There are a lot of costumes in this book, about thirty, and two beautiful dolls. It covers fashion from 1890 to 1919, with dresses from great designers like Worth and Paquin. Tom Tierney's paper dolls are wonderful, and this is one of his best.

The Jeanette MacDonald & Nelson Eddy paper dolls are a collectors dream. So artistically beautiful and in brilliant magnificent color. I reccomend purchasing several just in case you might want to actually cut one up for playful purposes. It's truly a fun collectable item to have. Michelle Gallina

This book offers a great way to show traditional Japanese clothing. I teach 7th grade students at Desert Springs Middle School in Desert Hot Springs, Ca. Our core reading list includes The Big Wave, and Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes. Both novels can be accessed more completely with the visuals of the Japanese paperdoll costumes. I recommend this book to anyone interested in authentic Japanese costumes presented in a colorful, and detailed manner

This book is really fun. There are pictures of men and women from various countries and different social and economic backgrounds, and a good amount of detail in each drawing. If you were attempting to reconstruct the costume of a 14th century French baker's wife, for example, you could get many good ideas here! I can't stress enough what a good resource this book would be: the pictures are large and detailed, the captions clearly identify the time,place, and economic status of the persons being depicted. Just a wonderful, gorgeous book!

These are some of the most beautiful paper dolls I have seen. Tierney does his usual meticulous job at recreating the (often highly eccentric) cosumes of these famous dancers. My only problem with them is that the pose of the Nijinsky doll is often at odds with the actual ballets--he never moved like that in Apres midi d'un faune--but that is minor. This is a treasure for anyone interested in paper dolls or ballet.
