Outstanding!
This is a different nature/photography book, not your average collection of nature shots. The author has scoured America, finding driftwood, shells, clouds, landscapes and more--pictures of his imagination he photographed beautifully. Some of the similarities you will see immediately, others take some pondering. At times you will see something different. It has appropriate quotations from expected people like John Muir and less expected like Thomas Jefferson. The book will change what you see in nature. You will slow down and unleash your own immagination on your next outdoor journey. I recommend this book!

A most gorgeous nature photography book
Michael Thomas Impellizzeri's Nature's Palette: Art Through A Photographer's Eyes is a truly dazzling display of natural photography, wildlife, land and sea, all showcasing a joyous celebration of the beauty of Mother Earth. Full color photographs (sometimes in perfect stillness, sometimes capturing a blur of motion) speak from the heart. Most photographs have an accompanying brief passage describing the motives and feelings of the photographer. A most gorgeous nature photography book, Nature's Palette is as inspiring as it is enjoyable.

One of the best literary magazines around
Open City consistently publishes great stories, poems, essays, and artwork. I look forward to each issue, because each one is so different, and because this magazine continues to be vital and relevant, esp. because many literary magazines are so staid and dull....

In our hand for the entire week!
Just returned from a week in Egypt. This guide book gave our family all the necessary info and trivia to enjoy Ancient and Modern Egypt. From Luxor and the Valley of the Kings to Aswan Dam, we learned more from Passport's than our tourguides. In Cairo, the maps helped with our navigation. Small and compact yet informative. Truely the only book that was in our hands the entire week. THANKS!

Dave's Serial Killer Home Page Book Review....
Due to the complexity of the police organization in contemporary America there is a dire need for a book such as this. A former Police chief (Bain, 1939:5) backs this up by saying:

"The citizen expects police officers to have the wisdom of Solomon, the courage of David, the strength of Samson, the patience of Job, the leadership of Moses, the kindness of the Good Samaritan, the strategical training of Alexander, the faith of Daniel, the diplomacy of Lincoln, the tolerance of the Carpenter of Nazareth, and, finally, an intimate knowledge of every branch of the natural, biological, and social sciences. If he had all these, he might be a good policeman!"

And I add to that, If he had all these there would be no need for a book such as this, but sadly we are both dreamers, hence this book is a necessity for all members involved in law enforcement and or media relations....

A book of poetry for any person.
This is an amazing book of poetry. I have been trying to understand the poetry that is written by people like Ammons and Ashberry or even Rita Dove and I just don't understand why anybody likes that stuff. This book has some poems that are more like what I think poetry should be. Some of the poems even rhyme! I am glad that I have found a book that doesn't take some really deep thinking. It's fun! It's simple! And it taught me some things about poetry that I didn't even know. I wouldn't recommend this for kids because there is some very sexy (and romantic!) stuff, but there are several poems that my child enjoys. This book is fun and still able to catch the nuances of life. One thing bad about this book is that the second part is much stronger than the first. Some of the first poems aren't very good, but most of the poems are.

Issues just as important today as they were then.
Take one overwhelmingly male-centered and predominantly white society, add huge portions of power, racism, sexism, a misinformed public and gross displays of injustice, and you've got a recipe for the American way. This collection of essays written at the time of the Anita Hill/Clarence Thomas hearings holds every bit of relevance now as it did nine years ago. Highlighting earlier civil rights legal battles and connecting their influence to the hearings themselves, each essayist examines in progressive detail just how pervasive--indeed, how dangerously latent--racism and sexism are in our society. How the volatile and often avoided issue of race can blind the equally volative and often dismissed issue of sexism in any race. In these essays, we are given a shockingly clear image of the circus that was the mishandling of the hearings. Explosive, revealling, and thought-provoking, this book yanks the proverbial rose-colored glasses from our collective American conscience and dares us to think for ourselves.

Robin Hood and Other Outlaw Tales (Middle English Texts)

Welcome to Sherwood! (and Barnsdale)
Do you know need a reason to buy this book? I can give you an excellent one -- it's called the Table of Contents. It lists 700 pages worth of Robin Hood ballads, plays and more. It has the earliest ballads and plays where Robin is merely a yeoman, the first play that casts him as the Earl of Huntington, and later ballads that give the "origins" of Little John, Maid Marian and Will Scarlet. Also, there's an introductory article on the history of the legend and complete introductions and notes to all the ballads and plays. The notes and introductions are by Stephen Knight and Thomas Ohlgren, two top Robin Hood scholars. If you want to read the original tales of the outlaw, or if you are teach a course in Robin Hood, this book is an excellent buy. Just treat it with care. I notice my cover is fraying somewhat.
