I was given this book by a friend after I spotted it on his bookshelf. The book came into my life during a time of great emotional turmoil and it turned out to be a big comfort. I have been confusing love with obsession for years and never understood why. Moore has written a wonderfully splendid book that offers a feal chance at getting beyond the gut-wrenching obsession of another person.

I purchased and read this book a week ago after a painful divorce was finalized. Fast forward to now and here I am in the same situation yet again, falling in love with a different man. I read the book and did not take much to heart, basically because I was in denial. But after picking up the book again and giving serious thought to what Moore presented, I can see how addicted I am to relationships. I also found myself feeling a bit embarrassed as I read this book, because much of what was presented hit a little too closee to home. Looking back on my marriage, I behaved just like some of the people in the case studies did - using food to manipulate my ex-husband into gaining weight. I also broke into his computer and deleted emails and tried to cause trouble for him. Why? Because I was obsessed with my ex husband and addicted to our marriage. I have now been motivated to join a support group and get help from a therapist. As for my new relationship, I am putting that on ice until I begin to heal. If you decide to buy this book, be prepared for some moments where you might cry. This is perhaps one of the best books I have ever read, because Moore writes with compassion and shows how relational dependency effects both WOMEN AND MEN!

It will change your life!

We were assigned this book to read by our instructor at the university I attend for undergraduate social work. Confusing Love with obsession advances so many psychological concepts ways that are easilly understood by the reader. I think what I found most alluring about this book was the level of compassion offered by the author. He went out of his way to not cast blame on relationally depedent people and offered concrete reasons as to why someone might behave destructively in personal relationships. There were a few times I had to put the book down because it started to influence me emotionally. If you are looking for insightful reading material that will hold your attention, get a copy of this book.

It is so good because Caples was in the mail order advertising business for forty-something years, and that's one of the few kinds of advertising that gets real feedback. Ads can be tested and the results can be compared. So Caples gives you FACTS rather than opinions about what works in advertising.

The book is very informative and also very interesting because Caples will show you two examples of ads he ran as a split-run and says "one sold three times more than the other; can you guess which one?" Then he'll tell you, and tell you WHY.

Not only that, but the book is extremely readable. I'm the author of Self-Help Stuff That Works, and I'm an expert on putting the most useful information into a readable form, and this book is as good as it gets. As David Ogilvy says in the introduction, "This is, without a doubt, the most USEFUL book about advertising that I have ever read." No more endorsement than that is needed!

As an author and professional speaker on marketing, I've recommended this book for years. It provides more specifics and sound advice for novice and experienced marketers on direct response advertising than anything else I've seen. It provides good fuel to test an ad agency's stuff-- especially those that say things like "oh, you can't track that..." I've re-read this book probably 20 times -- and you should too if you really want to improve the results of your advertising.

This is an exceptional book for wargamers interested in the art of war in Classical times. The text is clear, concise, and gives a good overview of the political and cultural events that shaped the art of war and the history of the particular period in a particular chapter. The illustrations give good looks at uniform and organisational details, and the descriptive maps/illustrations give a decent look at tactics.
Getting all of this in one volume at a reasonable price makes this a "must-buy" for wargamers (particularly beginning wargamers) looking at the Greeks, Macedonians, Persians, Cathaginians, and/or Romans as potential armies for the tabletop.

I first found this book in a public library in the early 1980's. Shortly after that it was stolen and I searched for it until about a year ago when I found it in a bookstore. This is the most comprehensive guide to the arms, armor, and tactics of the ancient world that I have ever seen. The illustrations are incredible and the diagrams of famous ancient battles shed new light on what really happend. If you enjoy studying ancient warfare, especially Greek and Roman, then you will LOVE this book.

This book is a must for anybody interested in classical warfare, military history, wargaming. When I first read this book many years ago, it really brought the classical period to life for me. The colorful illustrations, the diagrams of famous battles and force dispositions. Its all here including how different military systems, cavalry, foot and siege warfare have evolved from Greek to Roman times. As a history buff and wargamer, I find myself going to this book for reference constantly. Really a must for anyone interested in an introduction to classical warfare.

This is a nice addition to the currently available literature on the Apollo program. For those who are unfamiliar with Alan Bean's work, it is more impressionistic, rather than focusing on complete, detailed accuracy. Those who watched "From the Earth to the Moon" and expect the same kind of art may be disappointed. However, Bean's work adds another layer to the basic photographs we've already seen, incorporating the sense of grandeur and "magnificent desolation" that the astronauts were able to experience. Chaikin's text does not add anything that was not already covered in his book, so don't purchase this text to find out new facts about Apollo. DO purchase this book for the paintings. It makes you want to own a Bean original!

Since his retirement from NASA in 1981, Bean has devoted himself to his realist paintings; this handsome volume allows him to display both his artistic skills and his orbital experience, reproducing dozens of Bean's paintings of lunar surfaces, moonwalks, astronaut gear and so on, alongside a blow-by-blow narrative of Apollo 12, which Chaikin (The National Air and Space Museum Book of Aviation and Space Flight) has written very much from Bean's perspective. Chaikin and Bean describe the thrills and setbacks on the latter's path from naval aviator to astronaut, his first view of the blue-and-white Earth from 293,000 miles and the technical problems of making sure an American flag stays up on the moon. Final chapters track Bean's adventures with the paint and canvas he took up in 1974 ("Flying skills are so much like painting skills, it's amazing"), the exploits and close calls of other astronauts and Bean's hopes for his art and for space exploration. Short paragraphs in which Bean explains his pictures' subjects and techniques alternate with the longer segments of narrative; this format can make the whole book seem scattered, though the images, and the anecdotes, retain undeniable power. The meticulously detailed paintings themselves add warmth and a mid-19th-century softness to the photos and equipment on which many of them are based.

A truly magnificent portayal of mans greatest achievement. I followed Apollo 12 as a 14 year old kid back in 1969 and the wonderment of those flights to the moon has never left me. Seeing Bean's paintings puts me on the surface of the moon better than any photograph could. I advise anyone interested in America's Manned Space Program or the History of Art to buy this book. Unlike some of the reviewers in this section, I believe the astronauts of the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo programs went on their journeys for ALL of us, not just to enable the United States to beat the Soviet Union to the moon - we must look at things far deeper than that.

Zak Tash and their uncle Hoole need a new ship. They land on Necropolis(city of the dead). Zak finaly meets a friend. But,will everything stay that way? I liked this book because I couldn't put it down to do something else.

If you like action and fun this is a great book to read, I got it mainly because I like Boba Fett and when I read I loved it. It's a great story about Zac and Tash and their Uncle Hoole go to a planet called Necropolis and how they get pretty mixed up with Boba and get into a bit of trouble.

this book was realy great. i liked it because boba fett is in it and he has a big part in the book. i also liked it because it reminded me of event horizin the movie. i hope you read this realy good book.

With a more personal style than Diet For a New America, John Robbins teaches us about the production and consumption of meat, chicken, fish, dairy and eggs. What I like about this book is how he comes from a spiritual rather than statistics-only perspective. Robbins encourages us to remember the simple health-nourishing habits like giving thanks and chewing your food slowly, those simple things we can easily forget in our modern ironic eat-quick-so-you-can-make-it-to-yoga-class lifestyles. I especially like the "What You Can Do" section, inspiring readers to educate themselves and others, giving tips on shopping/ cooking healthy foods and a listing of resources.

Jia Patton's recipes make the book for me. I had the privilege of taking some of her cooking classes with gourmet vegan food which melts your taste buds in its richness and diversity of flavor. In May All Be Fed, Jia abolishes stereotypes of vegan food being bland. Every time I have made the "Cream of Broccoli Soup" for friends they ask for the recipe and love it, deservedly so, with its creamy cashew base. The "Spinach Tofu Quiche" is wonderful too (people don't seem to miss the dairy); the "Plum Cobbler" feels healthy yet satisfies the sweet tooth going down. I recommend this book for anyone who is open to learning about the vegan diet, and who enjoys cooking and eating fulfilling and jazzy meals.

I highly recommend buying this book for the way that it exposes the cruelty and shameful atrocities of the meat and dairy industries. For vegetarain nutrition info, I recommend a book with more monounsaturated fat like Becoming Vegan. In any case, definitely a must read along with Diet for a New America, also has some very inspiring quotes. I think John Robbins is very honest and well-meaning, but his lack of a medical and/or nutritional education often leads him to give less than perfect advice. Becoming Vegan is a better, more accurate nutritional book. I also recommend eating nuts instead of soy products which taste bland and may be overrated.

Diet for a New World will make you think twice about your next meal. Robbins offers real solutions to third world issues. When we consume meat, the crops were grown in abundance in a third world or extremely poor country, then it was exported to a meat farm to feed the cattle. Robbins explains that the grain used to feed the cattle could have fed the starving population of the growers and us as well.

Some of this book is difficult to read because it makes us take a serious look and the way live, eat and purchase everyday items. I'm glad I did- it changed my life.

Becoming vegetarian or vegan is only part of the solution. Buy the book, read it, practice it, bring veg dishes to gatherings and share what you know. Buy the book as a gift too, that's how I got it.

I realize we have One Earth and One Chance- let's make it count. John Robbins can get you started on the right path.

Anyone who uses a mobile phone, relies upon oversees Internet connectivity, or worries about personal security should get acquainted with this book. Mr. Vacca's newest book, Satellite Encryption, is an invaluable reference for your library. The author's thorough and detailed research accompanied with his outstanding organizational skills make this a must read. Mr. Vacca takes the reader through a journey of satellite encryption covering such subjects as policy, management, security and the future of this new-world communication infrastructure. In particular, I enjoyed Chapter 21, "Satellite Encryption for the Electronic Battlefield of Today", as the author discusses signal and missile defense advances and their application for digital warfare of the future. This is a superbly well written book and a must for those individuals who want to stay abreast of the dynamic information technology field.

As always, John Vacca provides an incredible level of detail in a readable manner. The Internet implications are particularly applicable to almost any reader. In our case, where the line-of-sight constraints of radio transmission in our wireless WANs are forcing us to look at satellite options, this book is an invaluable resource. And the tales told herein about encryption break-ins and techniques make fascinating reading in their own right.

Technical from orbit to chip, and immensely readable as well!

I read this book to my daughter last October when she was just a little over two. She's just turned three and we're using it as our pre-Halloween reading again. What I like best about the book is that the characters, a witch, ghost, vampire, mummy and bat, aren't at all scary. They all have the same sole interest, eating pumpkin pie. There's no witchcraft, no haunting, no nasty mischief. They're basically silly characters, offering parents a good way to introduce young children to them in a way that might later neutralize potentially scarier meetings. This book will not give my three year old nightmares - she may, however dream of pumpkin pie.

For those who celebrate Halloween, this book is a treat. The audio cassette, in particular, truly captures the essence of the story (in song) of a witch who has trouble picking a pumpkin, (a Halloween version of The Turnip). Her friends; a ghost, mummy, vampire, and bat all help. The result is a picture book with repetition and wit. A must for any school or teacher library.

This is my favorite Halloween book I know it so well that I will often just tell the story. It is really funny, it has the typical cast of Halloween monsters with out being scary and its great for reading out loud the kids always love to join in on the "Drat" and the pulling. I would also encourage you to purchase the audio version as it is a wonderful performance that children will listen to anytime of the year.

Every century Wither and her coven come back on the anniversary of their death to commit murder and mayhem on the Massachusetts town of Windale. In 1999, Wither needed a new vessel and tried to take over the body of Wiccan witch Wendy Ward but as untested as the teenage was, she still was able to defeat the evil witch. Wendy thought that she destroyed her but will soon learn that the essence of Wither lives on in the body of eighteen year-old Gina Thorne.

Gradually, Wither's essence spreads throughout Gina's body, allowing the teen to access the witch's powers. She plans to start a new coven but knows that to succeed, she must destroy Wendy. Thanks to the Crone, Wendy realizes that she will battle Wither once again and this time she must learn how to control and use her powers if she wants to destroy her adversary permanently.

WITHER'S RAIN is one of the best horror books of the new millennium. John Passarella has an uncanny knack of tapping into our hidden fears on the pages of his books, especially this one. His talent is on a par with Stephen King, Dean Koontz and Bentley Little. Gina/Wither is the epitome of evil and the allies she converts to her cause makes her even more dangerous to the heroine who like in High Noon needs to fight by herself.

First of all, before I get into my long review, I am going to start with saying this is a great book that any horror or avid book fan for that matter, should enjoy. In only his fourth novel(3rd solo, he was co-author of Wither), John Passarella breathes fresh air into the horror genre that even the most jaded fan should enjoy. The story of Wither's Rain centers around Wendy Ward, a college student with a gift for magic. She thought she had taken care of Elizabeth Wither when she watched her get crushed under falling stone, but it would not be the last she would see of her. Wither's physical form may have been crushed, but her blood survived. Unknown to Wendy, Wither's blood has found a new host in Angelina Thorne, and this time Wither's power grows more quickly. Wendy is going to have to face the same evil that she has not been able to get out of her nightmares since that one Halloween Night. In order to face the evil, she will need the help of her friends, Abby a young girl with the new found ability to turn into a wolf, Hannah a baby with extremely accelerated growth, and a crone figure from the future. That is a real simple explanation of where the book begins. One important thing to mention is that Wither's Rain stands alone really well. Meaning that you didn't have to read Wither in order to understand what is going on. Passarella does a great job of leading you into the story, and offering the vital information you might have missed not reading the first. Though since Wither was so great, I would think that you would enjoy going back and reading it anyways. Wither's Rain is one of those books that grabs a hold of you and just doesn't let go. From the first page, it engulfs you, and you just can't stop flipping the page. I would pick up the book to read just a few pages before I go to bed, and next thing I know, I have read over thirty pages(which is a lot of pages when you read as slow as me) and still can't seem to stop. Passarella just does such a great job of setting situations up, that you continue to read just a few more pages to find out what happens. The suspense throughout Wither's Rain is of a cailiber rarely seen or even approached. Then there is Wendy Ward, who is a great main character to base a series around. She has that extra something that helps to put her in a catergory with some of the best leading characters of today, such as Buffy and Anita Blake. John Passarella is a great author, and is personally responsible for my new found interest in books. Wither's Rain is a completey enjoyable and satisfying experience. John Passarella continues to prove why he belongs to be mentioned with some of the great writers of today.

Passerella has done it again with this utterly gripping and sometimes gruesome horror novel pitting Wendy Ward, the college student and struggling white witch against the ancient evil called Wither! Wendy thought the terror was over when she destroyed the Wither in the first book only to find that true evil never dies and Wither's evil spirit has now taken up resident in body of a immoral young woman named Gina Thorne and now wants revenge against Wendy and her family and friends! Passerella's chilling sequel to his hit Wither has all of the ingredients:
a brave young heroine who must rise to occassion to save her life and the lives of all the people she cares for against a
unspeakable evil. This novel also boast scenes of Gina under the guidance of Wither capacity of evil as she targets her family for death and she corrupts her boyfriend. Other characters shine in this book such as young abby, the nine year old girl who
shapeshifts into a wolf thanks to the powers of the witch coven and the crone, invisible spirit that guides Wendy in her uses of magic and warns her of the dangers poses by Wither.
This novel also has a very memorable climax as Wendy has a fight through the death(through magic) between herself and Wither. Please bring us another Wendy ward book!

Yesterday, I snuggled up in a blanket on my couch and read AWAKENING FROM GRIEF. I can't begin to tell you how the words moved me. Until now, I have felt like most of the material I have read about grieving has been a band-aid; a small protective device to keep out harmful germs. After reading AWAKENING FROM GRIEF I feel as though my heart has been covered in a sterile bandage...coated with healing balm to speed the healing process...and healed within a matter of days. My heart has been hurting for years, so I knew it wasn't healed before. Now it is feeling young, and loved, and happy again. I feel truly alive for the first time in a long time! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

This book has changed my life! It is far superior to any other book I've read on the subject . . . most of which tend to be much too syrupy. AWAKENING FROM GRIEF is Real, Honest, and straightforward. It never fails to look at the deepest aspects of the experience of loss and sadness, yet it always shows the reader the road to a new, healing perspective . . . the "Road Back to Joy." What's most remarkable about it is that it isn't really about grief as much as it is about happiness. By showing us the ways in which our attachment to feeling victimized stands in the way of our ability to be happy, this book offers a taste of true spiritual freedom and REAL healing. This book has helped me heal childhood wounds that have resisted all forms of therapy. It has helped me to find a lightness in my life that I've never felt before. I will be forever grateful for this book, and I highly recommend it!

My father passed away in August. I was devastated. September and October were such dark months for me. Then I read these customer reviews and purchased this book. I got the book and by the time I read the first 3 pages my perspective on my Dad's death had totally changed. I realized his death wasn't pointless. It actually made me realize that his death was his last "gift" to me. It was a total paradigm shift. It made me realize that life is all about joy and sadness. It's all part of the deal. Death is natural and sometimes even beautiful. The book made me realize that his death could actually enhance the way I live my life.

I highly recommend it for those who are hurting. I bought a copy for each member of my family. I also buy it for everyone I know who is taking care of someone who is very sick and for those who have lost someone already.
