Fabulous Book
This comprehensive 600 page book showed me in detail how to set up, operate, and manage a restaurant business. The author covers everything there is to know about the very risky business of running a restaurant.

As a caterer looking to open a restaurant I also found the book very helpful. I didn't need recipes or help in sales - I needed help in running the financial aspects of my business. The chpater on computers was very helpful as well. The book is very easy to read and understand. Complicated accounting subjects are simplified, easy to understand and ( almost) fun to apply.

The books nineteen chapters cover the entire process of a restaurant start-up and ongoing management. The companion CD rom which contains all the forms is worth the modest price of the book alone. I would highly recomend this book to anyone in the industry now or who wants to get started with sound financial planning. Also the extensive resource guide in the back of the book helped me locate a manufacturer I needed a part from - I will use this book often.

A book with overwhelming information...
Being an amateur astronomer I bought this and the other two volumes recently and I have found it indispensible. Im writing this review keeping solely the tyro's in mind, since one knowledgeable in astronomy would have already had this book. If you are getting interested in astronomy, this is the book to buy - it will surely deepen your interest. Get the book and take a journey through the starts that Burnham offers you in the first few pages.

There are plenty of astronomy books for amatuers with fantastic photos. And sometimes it can be intimidating to know what to buy. Burnham's book is worth every penny (and it doesnt cost much either). It does not contain colorful photos (though contains plenty of b&w photos taken from Lowell/Palomar and other observatories). All 88 constellations are dealt with in detail. First a list of double stars are given in each constellation followed by details of each bright star (including spectrum analysis for some). The book is set in "type-writer" font, so it gives a special feeling of reading some research paper.

A unique feature of this book, which is probably not found in any other astronomy book I have come sofar, is that, it also contains a perspective of a given constellation or star by several different cultures. Most astronomy books stop with Greek and Roman myths - giving a feeling that no other culture was knowledgeable in astronomy. Coming from Indian background, I found it very intriguing that Burnham mentions several stories and myths from Indian folklore (including those that I heard from my granny!). For eg, Varahamihira (c 100 AD?) in his "Brihat Samhita" compares Ursa Major (aka called "Seven Sages") to string of pearls. I was surprised to see Burnham mention this.

One other way I use the book is to first locate some star in the telescope (by lazily moving it around), notice the color, constellation and other characteristics, then look into the book about the details and compare with what you saw. Thats a fun way of learning.

Though more experienced astronomers would observe that some Burnham's values are of older epoch, this should not really bother a beginner. Burnham has certainly packed a wealth of information into three volumes. Again this is a book that will accompany for life on observing the wonders that are up above the sky.

Wonderful Books......
Burnham is a "given" among amateur astronomers. Until quite recently there was no work other than this that contained so much useful information in one place. It's also much more than just a reference. Despite his twenty years at Lowell Observatory, Burnham seems to have remained an "amateur" in the highest sense. His love of the night sky is plainly communicated not only in his entertaining digressions into myth and poetry but also by the obvious effort he put in before the days of PC's and word processors. I began by using these books to get information on objects I already had in mind, but very quickly, the inconspicuous and the usually overlooked began to take on a "real identity" when Burnham spoke about them. The sky became immeasurably richer. Burnham died destitute in 1993. I'm in his debt. He's that wise and experienced friend standing at my side sharing what he knows.

A peerless classic
Robert Burnham's classic work could rightfully be called the Bible of American amateur astronomers (in Europe, the Webb Society handbooks probably earn that title). Volume 1 begins with an overview of various aspects of observational astronomy, focusing on the various cataloging and classification systems used to describe stars, nebulae, star clusters, and galaxies. The remainder of the three volumes consist of chapters for each constellation. Each chapter begins with a table that give a rundown of all objects of interest in that constellation. What follows are detailed descriptions of all notable objects in the constellation. Burnham did not confine himself to scientific facts - religion, archaeology, literature, and art all find their way into the text. Time has had a toll on the accuracy of the scientific facts that Burnham gives - many distances are wrong, and the discussions of some objects, particulaly remote or highly energetic ones, are seriously outdated. Still, these three books form the backbone of my astronomy library, and have grown battered with heavy use. They make for fascinating reading both beside the telescope and in the living room.

I read these books over and over... I CAN'T GET ENOUGH!
I started reading this series when I was 11, now I'm 15 and I'm still addicted. The wonderful character development, the beautiful and wonderous settings, the magical plots, the humorous twists and turns, unbelievable! I am a huge fan, and this series has got to be the best ever! From Skeeve to Tananda, to Gleep, and Aahz the Pervert.. ahem I meant Pervect. This is the most wonderous and humorous, creative and magical group you will ever read of... EVER!

Contact me for more hype!

Something Myth Inc.
Actually this has nothing to do with the 11th Myth book. I've read all but one Myth book (unless Something Myth Inc. came out without my knowing it) and I don't want to buy Myth Inc. Link over the net, so can someone please give me a brief (DON'T SPOIL THE STORY) overview of what happens? Thanks. I can be reached at lctucker@juno.com

Now, from what I can tell, everyone in Klah is angry at Skeeve for raising taxes. Does that mean that he's the king or still just a financial advisor?

This is supposed to be a review, isn't it? Oops. Sorry. This is a great series. Go out and buy all 10 books right now. If your anything like me, you should have them all read in about a week; you can't stop reading them!
I think I might have written too much. I'll stop now. Bye.

Greatest Ever Series!
First time I read a book from Myth Series was about 8 years ago- I got it from my mom on my birthday. Few month ago I had a look through my home library and found this book- being a very involved fantasy reader, and just for the sake of rememberance, I read it- and couldn't stop. Since then I got all 10 books and keep reading them over and over, 'cause each time you read it, you discover all the new stuff about characters, always find it unbearably funny and witty, as well as cleverly written. The ending of the 10th book left readers in a terrible suspence- Gleep got shot! And he said "Skeeve"- his second word! I got on this web site to find out when the next book will be out, but it seems that no one knows.

I it very unfortunate that there will be only two more books. I really hope that dear Robert A. would reconsider, or surprise us with at least one more book after that!

THE best Samba book available
O'Reilly sets the standard by which all other technical publishers should aspire; their books are technical, dense, and personally, I love the pithy, no nonsense tone. I have never been disappointed with an O'Reilly book. This book continues the tradition of above par books and I can attest that hands down, this is the best book available on Samba.

Remarkably, the information inside is aging very well. While it doesn't cover the most current version of Samba, this book is by far the most informative and helpful on the subject available.

While the book is fortified with examples, screenshots, and an easy to read style, by far my favorite portion is on troubleshooting (complete with a "fault tree"). It is just a way of systematically approaching connectivity problems in relation to the samba server.

I mean, really, what exactly is "System error 53?" This book won't tell you outright, but it will help narrow down the problem to solvable proportions.

The included CDROM also includes a mirror to the official Samba FTP site, including sources, binaries, documentation, and utilities.

When I have Samba configuration problems, or questions pop up about Samba, this is the book I reach for. If pressed for time and pressed for answers by coworkers, I have been known to pull it off the shelf and lend it out.

Very comprehensive, very handy!
Network administers will invariably face the task of integrating Windows systems with Unix or Linux ones. Samba provides an excellent solution to this problem, but for people starting out, Samba seems like a daunting task.

Not so with this book. Prior to reading this book, I had no experience with Samba whatsoever. Before long, I found myself setting up Samba on a linux server and setting up file shares to Win2k systems. The massive smb.conf configuration file no longer looks menacing, but rather, its easy to read now.

I see why this has been adopted by the Samba team. Its very easy to read, very relaxing in its pace, and very thorough in its treatment of Samba topics. I do not believe there is a more comprehensive on Samba to date. Even the reference sections in the back are very nicely organized, and very easy to use.

What really tops this book off though is its treatment of Windows networking. For those who have little or no understanding of Windows and how networks are organized, this book covers the topic very well. Unix/Linux administrators will be glad they read this chapter.

In closing, I strongly recommend this book to Network Administrators, particularly those using Unix/Linux. This book is very comprehensive, but very easy to read.

Outstanding Treatment of Samba and Networking
This is by far the finest computer book I have ever read. I recommend this book to people wanting to install and use Samba because no other book, HOWTO, or online forum explains SAMBA so well. I also recommend this book to people just getting their feet wet with networking because it comprehensively examines both Linux and Windows networking issues in an extremely easy to read, step-by-step way.

This book has screen shots -- a lot of them. This book has examples -- a lot of them. This book has very easily followed writing that tells you how to set up your Linux and Windows machines and how to get Samba going. The book sits down with you, rolls up your sleeves, and shows you how to progress in a way that yeilds desired results -- Samba installs and works on your network! It blends instruction with just the right amount of background explanation without forcing you to read page after page of useless, smothering detail. A lot of authors would be well advised to achieve this kind of balance in computer books and darn few succeed. I had my Windows box talking to my Linux box via Samba in just a day. I spent about 2 weeks going over the book and studying my existing Windows network before making any software changes whatsoever.

This book offers a comprehensive networking fault tree people new to networking will find extremely useful. Follow this fault tree and you will be able to correct general networking problems as well as specific Samba problems. When I had networking problems back when I first got into Linux with Red Hat 6.0, I could have fixed them with this book's fault tree. It would have saved me hours of frustration to have worked through this book's fault tree.

I think everyone wanting to connect Linux boxes to Windows boxes should rush to order this book and then spend 2 weeks reading it cover to cover before messing with ANY network settings. You will be rewarded for your money and patience with results and a feeling of genuine accomplishment.

I've noticed a trend in Linux books where the authors like to waste space and reader's time with useless banner "warnings" and sometimes repetitive moralizing. Some writers print warnings every 2 pages and sound as bad as hoax emails. Well you won't find many warnings in Using Samba. They are worth reading when found.

As far as I can see, there are only 2 bad points about this book and you can't blame the authors for them: unless it is lovingly revised in a new edition, increasing rollouts of Windows 2000 will rapidly obsolete the excellent Samba advice you can get here. As of this writing (August 2000), Windows Millenium Edition will be available to consumers September 14, and depending on sales this may help obsolete the book also. The second bad point is that Samba has not gone into a new version which can deal with Windows 2000 and Millenium Edition yet. It is still stuck at 2.0.7. Hopefully the Samba team will release a new version in the near future covering Windows 2000. And I sure hope The Samba Book, as it is called, is revised to cover the new Windows products!

The Real Thing
"True Love" by Robert Fulghum was one of the few books in my life I just couldn't pull myself away from. It really isn't a book written by him, but rather a collection of stores, real life stories, submitted by people throughout he United States.

I simply LOVED this book. Reading these stories reinforced my already existing belief that True Love REALLY does exist... but more importantly... it reinforces my belief that Love (or True Love) need not last a lifetime, but can actually be brief moments in time... even minutes.

I enjoyed reading all the stories and I enjoyed the Hope that these stories instilled in me. The great thing is... these stories are REAL. They really happened!!! So if you're the type of person who reads romance novels and thinks, "This stuff isn't real." you'll soon learn that some of those unbelievably sweet stories really do happen.

These stories are so amazing and breathtaking... we could all be so lucky to have a story such as those within these pages to call our own. I'm still looking for my One True Love... who knows... after reading "True Love"... it could actually happen.

True Love : This is the book will bring you joy
I've been a huge fan for Fulghum's books. He always have a unique perspective in everything. But this book is different from his previous ones. It's a collection of love stories from many people. Fulghum just put them in this book, re-arrange and add his comment. This is one of the most honest book I ever read. Story of strange love, I would say that if we can call it "love". What does love mean? Does it limit only between boys & girls, friends & friends etc? This book doesn't answer anything at all, but it will make you think about it and finally smile.I'm very surprise with such those wonderful, lovely stories in this books. This is the book you will love. Each story has its own charm and memory. Again, as usual, Fulghum's summary in each section of the book is more than I can say. His view for love with the help of his excellent ability to select spectacular words make it a very wonderful book. Good persent for Valentine's day

You must read this book. You will TRUEly LOVE it.
Robert Fulghum is the type of author that can make your heart smile. He writes about real people and real things. And what is more real than True Love? We've all been there. We know that wonderful / terrible feeling. If you've loved and lost, if you've loved and won . . . you know it is worth it. Reading Mr. Fulghum's True Love is much like sitting in a coffee shop with an old friend and recounting your True Love stories and theirs. It makes you feel wonderful and lucky to be in love . . . or it makes you look forward to falling in love. I fell in love. With this book. Treat yourself. Read it

Hilarious. Lot's of laughs for the soul of the golfer.
I recently bought this book at the L.A. Times book festival. I too am an addicted golfer. The confession, obsessions and insights of a golf addict is a most appropriate subtitle for The Golf Gods are Laughing. The funniest thing I've ever read about the game. JW. California.

Especially for golfers
The Robert Bruce Woodcox book The Golf Gods Are Laughing is the best golf book I've read. And I've read a good number of them. From a golfer's viewpoint, it's hilarious. My non-golfer spouse isn't as impressed. I'm looking forward to sharing it with my foursome, brother-in-law, sons, friends, etc. >

Every Golfers Survival Guide - The humor of the game !
As a avid golfer, I rather play golf than read about it! However, since I received this book as a gift, and I had some free time I decided to give it a try. I'm glad I did. The book is great, right from the start.

Robert Woodcox is a golf genius, if there is such a thing. His accounts of what he has gone through so far in his "golfing career" is hilarious. Every golfer will be able relate to what he writes. However, this may not be such a great thing. Not everything a golfer does or thinks is something to be proud of.

If you golf, know someone who golfs, or just want to laugh at human nature, then buy this book. It is one of the best books I've ever read. If he played half as well as he writes, he'd be a scratch golfer.

Explore the options.
Like Dr. Murry's Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine, Dr. Atkins book acts as a reference resource beyong compare. Many of us yearn to take our health into our own hands. With comprehensive books such as this, we can learn more and consequently demand more from our health care professionals. These are not "non-cures". Nature can provide an abundance of what our bodies need. When we are ill, we just need them in a more concentrated form. Dr Atkins solutions have validity. One site I have found where we can find the types of vita-nutrients that Atkins recommends is Papanature. His prices, service, selection are the best I have found. His documentation of these products correspond with the same information proposed by Atkins.

T.G. It's Atkins
I am so glad there are several doctors and researchers out "there" who are willing to attest to the healing power of nutritional supplements! Dr. Atkins has once again done a superb job at clearly explaining the types of supplements and the ways they can be used for optimum health. I have long been a follower of this man's work, but have been slow to get around to praising it here. Shame on me because Vita-Nutrient Solution is worth it. Many of the supplements he refers to I have found available for good choices and prices at a site, iHerb which also has a great deal of informational documentation. I suggest you read through Atkins' book and get convinced that nutritional supplements are what the body needs in this stress-filled, near-toxic environment. Then search the web and see that iHerb offers the best prices.

The Guru of Complementary Medicine
Dr. Robert Atkins has once again shown the world that pharmaceuticals, hormone replacements and the typical high-carb low fat eating plan are not the answers to optimal health. When used in conjunction with a complementary physician, this book is a natural prescription pad. Through his own admission, Dr. Atkins does claim at the time of printing of the book, it is, to him considered obsolete. New discoveries are occuring every day in the world of vita-nutrients. We can only hope Dr. Atkins takes his own good advice, eats low carb, takes his Vita-Nutrients and stays around for many years to come.

Absorbing account of Anne's short life
Melissa Muller has written an absorbing, probing, sincere account of the life of Anne Frank. She provides a historical background that proves fascinating, from the backgrounds of Anne's parents, grandparents and extended family, to the political climates in Germany and Holland before and during World War II.

This worthy biography depicts with subdued insight the Frank family's relationships. I was particularly touched while reading about the Franks' love and concern for their two daughters, and by the inclusion of several letters from the Franks to extended family members, particularly those exchanged between Otto Frank and his mother.

Throughout the book, Muller's interest in the subject matter is evident and her unsensational interpretation of events rings true. The translation is flawless and the text is woven together seamlessly. All in all, this biography triumphs as one of the most well-written biographies I have read.

I agree with Miep Gies' statement at the end of the book: Anne's life does not, as some writers and historians have suggested, symbolize the millions of lives lost in the Holocaust, because her life was hers alone. Millions of individual lives were tragically and cruelly ended. After reading this book, I feel privileged to have had a poignant glimpse into one of these lives.

Everyone is remembered
Not only did Muller do a wonderful job giving more information about Anne and her personality, she gave the reader clearer pictures about the other people who also had to live through this terrible time with Anne. Anne's diary definatly made a picture of her life's happenings and Muller these times color. This biography sheds more light on Anne's spectacular personality, not only with excerpts from the diary, but from her friends and family. This book is to remember Anne but it also puts more insight into the characters we have read about in her diary... they no more are just names but true people that Muller has learned a great deal about. This is a great finishing book for anyone that has been moved by the diary of Anne Frank.

A very emotional journey through Anne's life
I read about Anne Frank when I was around 8 years old. I was very touched by her story, and begged my aunt - who lives in Amsterdam - to take me to the Anne Frank House to visit the Secret Annex. Ever since, Anne's tragic story has been with me. I read her diary, as well as other books written with her. Now I read this book - Anne's biography. I just finished it - and I sit here with a pale face and tears in my eyes. It's a very touching story with happy times and dark times, and a very tragic end. The author describes this end in every detail you could possibly think of... the arrestation of the eight people in the Annex, Mieps attempts to free the family by offering money to Gestapo police offers, the family's deportation to the camps... how Anne lived in happiness in Westerbork after having been locked in the Annex for two years. How she was deported to Auschwitz - where she was separated from her father and, later on, from her mother. How she and Margot were deported to Bergen-Belsen, where she died so tragically. If this part of the book doesn't move you to burst out in tears, the part when Otto finds out his daughters won't come back, will. This book is a journey through Anne's life and after the last page the terrible truth gets you by the throat: this young girl, who described this terrible period in her life so lively, will never ever come back. Anne's spirit is with us forever. Whenever I'm in Amsterdam, I always stop by Prinsengracht 263 to visit the Annex. And when I'm standing in Anne's room I still feel the same as when I was 8 years old, and visited her room for the first time.

The best I've seen
Bob Fenner is one of the most helpful personalities in the industry. I bought his book only after finding his personalized help offered on [the internet]. He helped me avoid so many pitfalls with his website, I just had to buy his book. It's not all pictures like so many books, and it's up to date. I've saved myself a lot of money just using his book and following his advice. With the price of marine aquariums and fishes, saving even one fish buys this book for you. Check it out, or check him out on his site first. I'm sure you wont be disappointed.

What you may wnat to know
It is needless to say how great this book is. It covers almost every possible topics for beginner and is very interesting reading. However, there are few things you may want to know:

1. The author sometimes scatter important notes of same topic in different section and never repeat. You want to read this book carefully and word by word.

2. Some topics are not very detail for a beginner. For example, the medical treatment for desease dont not cover the appropriate dosage or treatment time. For filtration system, it does not recommand which type of filter capacity is suitable for certain size of aquarium.

3. Many spices of fish and invertabrates have no picture in this book to help you identify them

4. This book is a must for any one who just started a marine aquarium but may not be enough for experienced aquarist

Overall, I still give this book 5 star for giving so much experienced advices that my marine aquarium is finally sucessful.

THE "Must-Have" volume for beginning and intermediate...
This is far and away the best book about hobbyist fishkeeping I have EVER read - that includes everything for freshwater, as well. Probably little here for the very experienced marine aquarist, but for the beginner, there is NO BETTER BOOK. It's worth every penny I spent on it. The author even points out silly errors and terrible misinformation present in OTHER books I also own! It is the ultimate reference, with enough information to take the complete newbie from a simple fish-only setup to a reasonably advanced reef system, avoiding the many, MANY possible pitfalls in between, from equipment and feeding, to which fish will eat your invertebrates (and vice-versa). Highly opinionated, and incredibly experienced, the author also demonstrates a rare talent in this typically dry genre: His prose is actually FUN to read, and his points are highly memorable because of it.

I might repeat the cliche' "If you read only one book about marine fishkeeping..." But the fact is, until you get to really exotic reefs and invertebrates, you only NEED to read one book - This one.
---------------
The above review was written quite some time ago, and I'm making this addendum because I now have a relationship with Mr. Fenner (I work on his website(s)) and I think it's important to disclose that - also because Amazon finally added this 'edit' feature! Also important though, I now believe that "The New Marine Aquarium" by Michael Paletta is possibly a better beginner's book. I still think Bob's CMA (as it is called by insiders) is the "One Book". But if you plan on having -more- than one, and you're looking for your first, you might check out Paletta's, it's a shade easier to digest than the all-powerful CMA. [grin]

Great book for discovery your inner self
I would recommend this book to everyone. It is easy to read, in fact, one cannot put it down. It iseasy to recognize ourselves in the description of the knight.

Knight in Rusty Armor
Every man in my practice is given this book to read and by their report have gained a lot. I am a marriage family therapist. O.K., ask their wives or significant others and they agree. Men don't read as much as women. It is a short book. It is an allegory so ego gets protected while teaching an important lesson about openness, vulnerability and how it rewards. Other book men gain from are Emotional Intelligence, Road Less Traveled, Different Drum, Raising Modernday Knights,

Every single person needs to read this book.
My daughter first sent this book to me about 7 years ago. I read it almost without putting it down. I have since purchased more than a dozen of these for gifts. From junior high age and older, this is a simply written book about life. If I had the power, I would put Knight in Rusty Armor in every home in the world.
