Amazing Photography
This book was incredible: helpful, cohesive, and stunningly written. However, the most attractive part of the collection has to be the photography. Each photo not only captures the spirit of the image shot, but captures the imagination as well. Mayer does a fabulous job of grasping the essence of Trulove's verbal images in his work. This book is a must-have, not only for the coffee table anthology, but as a feast for the eyes.

Beautiful!
Somewhat like the Magician's Apprentice in Fantasia, this book delights in relaying the dangers of meddling in magic. A wonderful tale of a cat whose wizardly master leaves her home alone, and she proceeds to conjure up all sorts of trouble! Those who are out of the "suggested reading" age will still love the fantastic artwork.

Stephens as a poetic voice of ireland
to limit, as you do, your review of Stephens irish fairy Tales to adolescent readers is a disservice to the book. While it is eminently readable, it does far more than many fairy tale compilations. Stephens presents a voice, a carefully chosen, well modulated voice, to present the web of tales which comprise the Irish tradition. As in Crock of Gold, he does this with beautiful natural imagery, and references to the bays and rivers and isles of Ireland. Moreover, unlike much of literature considered adolescent fare,he encompasses adult virtues and vices including lust, envy and pride. This book is written with a compelling sense of humor, aimed not at the cute, but at the failings which each of us possess. it is a book worthy of reading by a person of any age.

Vegetable Gardening in Florida
Being new to gardening it has been a chore finding books I can understand about gardening. Many make promises but don't deliver information in a senible manner and I end up more frustrated than satisfied. This one delivers. The thing I love about this book is its simple easily understandable format. The book is loaded with color photographs that help me distinguish the different kinds of problems plants suffer from, making it a simple process in learning how to care for my plants and exactly what may be the problem.

I like the way he layed out the charts in the back of the book. One section for cold crops and one section for winter crops. He even has a section for herbs! It takes the work out of thumbing through page after page, book after book, of when, what and where I can grow things. Thanks, Mr. Stephens, for taking the mystery out of vegetable gardening and making my life a little easier and a lot simplier.

Full of passion - and MORE!
I first became aware of the work of the O'Mearas through an article in Parade magazine (3/14/99). I immediately ordered their book and was not disappointed. Filled with incredible photography and awe-inspiring text, the authors have not only captured the majesty and mystery of volcanoes around the world, but have filled this book with a plethora of passion and beauty. This is one of those rare books that combines scientific fact with scientific wonder that both engages and mesmerizes the reader. The storytelling is first rate, the information is up-to-date, and the photos are some of the finest to be found anywhere. Whether you are a confirmed volcanologist or a casual observer of these natural wonders, this is a book you will turn to time and time again. This is a certified 5-star book - a "must have" for any home or public library!

Visions of an exciting hi-tech future WOW!
In here are 5 different stories from 5 different authors. But somehow they all are connected by the same themes and characters.

I managed to read this book within a week. I found it to be well written and easy to understand. It contains short sentences that are easy to absorb. I suspect it may have been written for teenagers.
I'm bewildered as to why no one has reviewed this classic book. It's an honour and privilege for me to review it.

While it may have been aimed for a younger market the themes in it are ageless and timeless. Mature readers will appreciate it too. What I loved about it was how my current net experience, while relatively plain, simple and uneventful, is correlated to this future vision of spectacular marvel. In one word, it's fascinating how it views the future of virtual reality and the (hopefully) future eventuating of how the Internet will prosper and develop to encompass our daily lives. I just loved how it projects people into simulated worlds like a cat with nine lives. From history to future space everything and anything is imagined within the Web 2028 and with vivid, exciting detail that humans can only dream of happening in their wildest fantasies..

Overall I recommend this book. While I'm normally a sci-fi fan who liked Star Wars, X Files etc. this book appealed to me. I recommend it for all ages especially the young. I dare say it's better than Harry Potter as it's relevant to the current Zeigiest way of life and modern pop culture. Who wants to read about witches and magic when you can summon visions of a promising and idealized utopian high tech future. [Forget} Potter and Lord Of The Rings, read this book NOW!!!

A specialized slice of early American frontier history
Wheel Boats On The Missouri: The Journals And Documents Of The Atkinson-O'fallon Expedition 1824-1826 is an archival reference showcasing a specialized slice of early American frontier history - as reflected by the original words of the wheel boat men who were directed by President James Monroe to negotiate peace treaties with Native American tribes along the Missouri River. The resulting use of 475 infantry soldiers, "gunboat diplomacy," and man-powered wheel boats across a 3,000 mile expedition is meticulously detailed among numerous primary references. Journals dealing with daily life, navigation difficulties, American Indian cultures and political negotiations provide an amazing glimpse into army life in an America of almost two centuries past. Wheel Boats On The Missouri is an impressive work of scholarship and a strongly recommended addition to academic and community library American history reading lists and reference collections.

A Truly Wonderful Tale
This is great story about a boy in the old days of stagecoach travel in the 1830's in New Hampshire. Daniel Drew an orphan boy ends up working at a Deptford Tavern called the Fox and Stars, and the reader is treated to rich descriptions of what life was like back then before the automobile. Trouble stirs and Dan is involved in a hunt for an evil troop of highwaymen. This book is deep in adventure and I find it amazing that it is out of print. It is one of the best children's books I have ever read.

A Refreshing Change
Academic anthologies of world literature often cater to the professoriate in English departments who only have a passing knowledge of non-western literature. As a result, many collections of world literature are, in fact, collections of European literary classics, thereby allowing professors to simply walk through lower division classes without having to do much work. _A World of Literature_, however, places non-Western literature at the core of the collection, allowing teachers and students to really challenge themselves in the enjoyment of global perspectives. The works selected for inclusion are generally canonical within their cultural contexts and are made comprehensible by the fine introductions.

PLATO'S REPUBLIC IS THE ODYSSEY OF PHILOSOPHY!
Plato's The Republic, is not only a classic work of the fourth century B.C., but a masterpiece of utopian literature as a whole. Mr. Lee's translation brings into light the political and poetical wisdom of Plato into English from the original Greek. In The Republic, Plato raises questions that are still at the heart of many modern conflicts and heated debates. What is justice? What is goodness? What is the right political authority? Plato examines these questions as aspects of a single theme. He offers a portrait of an ideal state in which power is entrusted to the philosopher king(s), and other men and women accept the authority of the wise and the good. If no one has read The Republic, then he or she has not read anything!

The Bedrock of Modern Philosophy
In the "Republic," Plato may or may not have accomplished what he set out to do, which is to define justice and prove that it is superior to injustice, irregardless of either's consequences. However, what he DID do is set the foundation for over two thousand years of thought. Read this work slowly; within each of the seemingly-simple discussions there is a world of though to be discovered. Anyone with the least bit of background in philosophical readings can literally read page-by-page, discovering the sources of many of the greatest philosophers of all-time. The "Republic" is not so much a work of literature as it is an explosion of thought; a ten-book brainstorm of one of the greatest minds of all-time. By the work's end, whether or not you feel Socrates to have successfully answered Glaucon's challenge is almost irrelevant, for the argument will have already left your mind reeling.

The Foundation of Most Subsequent Western Though
Plato's "Republic" is probably the most important work in the history of Western Philosophy, or atleast I believe it is. The reader can literally flip from page to page counting how many subsequent philosphies arose from interpretations of the words on each page. Of all Western Philosophers, Plato was one of the greatest writers. Even though some readers may find the dialogue style exhausting, I find it enjoyable because it turns the real-life participants in the arguments into literary characters who can, at times, be quite humorous. All literary merits aside, the overabundance of profound thoughts to be found in "The Republic" make it a must-read for anyone who likes to think.
