The best one out there...
I am an ethics consultant and have a masters degree in ethics - and I have read a LOT of ethics books. In the three years since I came upon this text, I have found nothing to equal it. The 24 page introduction (which contains a brilliant explication of moral relativism) is worth the price. This book contains foundational articles that everyone should read, a solid collection of integrated cases, and touches on a wide and useful range of business ethics issues. It is a straightforward book, but it is not designed to be simple. It challenges the reader to think, something that many ethics books do not do. If you only own one book specific to business ethics, this should be it.

For those who are searching for a broader book on ethics in the professions (including non-business professions), I consider "Ethical Issues in Professional Life", by Joan C. Callahan to be the standard by which all others are measured.

Objective
This book is the most objective book on business ethics. It presents several ethical theories along with their strengths and weaknesses as an intro, and then it presents case studies relating to a plethora of business topics. These topics include accounting and many others left untouched by other authors, and the topics are current and are often taken from real-world cases. After each case study, a series of questions are posed--you are supposed to apply the theories here. This book does not tell you what is ethical, it presents different view points and allows the reader to decide for himself/herself.

Clinical Procedures in Emergency Medicine

Author: James R. Roberts
Amazon base price: $169.00
Average review score:

Great Book for anyone interested in emergency medicine
I am an EMT working toward a degree in nursing or PA. I saw this book being used in the ER at UVA Medical Center and had to have it. It has been a great learning tool for me. I would recomend anyone practicing emergency medicine to add this book to your library.

A must-have book for practicing emergency physicians
This new edition of a classic text is essential for the busy emergency physician. Not only does it give clear instructions for performing procedures, it also provides relevant information about pathophysiology. Indication and contraindications are explained. Numerous helpful tables assist in the interpretation of test results. This book is much more than a how-to manual, and no emergency department should be without it.

Even more helpful than edition 3, and I didn't think that possible.

The theoretical and practical combine to lend a comprehensive introduction to the field. Each edition has offered expanded coverage that keep the contents current and relevant to the most recent discussions and advances. Excellent book for college drafting course.
This is an excellent college level text.I particularly like the detailed "real world" drafting problems for the students. Also it has a very good apppendix. It is comprehensive enough that we use it in three different courses here at Vincennes University.

EXTREMELY HELPFUL
I have had this book in my drafting library for some time now. I am always using it and recommending it. The book is laid out so that you can go from beginning drafting up through advanced. It not only says what the standards are, but walks you through drafting technology so that you understand why they are like they are. I believe that anyone that is going to be doing drafting should have this in their library.

Excellent Reptile Resource and Field Guide
The long-awaited field guide to the diverse reptile populations of East Africa. This book was everything I expected it to be and more. Comprehensive listings, excellent photography and detailed information on habitat/distribution, natural history, conservation status etc. I can't say enough good things about this book, the list of authors should speak for themselves! ;-)

No serious herper's library is complete without this book...

Perfect blend of science and user-friendliness
I was hoping to be able to buy this book before my trip to Kenya in August 01. Unfortunately, it wasn't yet published at that time. I thought I could pick up a decent field guide in Nairobi, but I was wrong. The best I could find there was a short paperback with fuzzy photos, anecdotes, and very incomplete list of species. Nonetheless, I had a great trip and identified some nice herps.
In December I saw that this Field Guide was out, so I bought it and found it to be outstanding. A nice fat book jam packed with beautiful and useful photos, great descriptions, habitat and range info, and natural history. There is so much precise and credible information in this book it is amazing. So much work must have gone into producing this thing! The species coverage is vast. For example, there is complete info on over thirty species of chameleon. The identification keys are also practical and simple. The writing is straightfoward -- minimal superscientist jargon -- but also precise and complete and consistent. Good sections on how to find herps, how to use the book, dealing with snakebite, etc.
I am very glad I bought this book. The authors have my admiration for this achievement.

I Came Back from Bataan
Published in Paperback by Ambassador-Emerald, Intl. (01 October, 1997)
Authors: James Donovan Gautier, Robert L. Whitmore, and Bob Whitmore
Amazon base price: $9.99
Average review score:

Excellent, moving, interesting, firstperson story
Sgt. Gautier was given some unusual assignments while a prisoner of the Japanese, and he was fortunate to have survived the Death March, prison camp and the voyage to Japan. He gives a gripping account of his experiences, and also provides us insight into the lives of the PoWs after their returned to the States.

This is a good book. Anyone interested in learning what it was like to be a prisoner of war under the Japanese will find it intriguing.

How true that this books is and how real it was.
This book was one that out of all of the books about the Death March of Bataan, was the most vived. This man came to my school and old us how real that this war that most people just talk about, was so real! This man went through so much and survived it and then went through it again, just to tell people about it. I think that it was a very honorable thing to do.

excellent
While not the 1st artist to take on the conceptions of light and its practical uses in art, now Flagstff, AZ. artist James Turrell has brought the perception of light in art to creative and fantastic new levels through his conceptions such as his famous "skyspaces" to "darkspaces," "blue rooms," etc. Many of his pieces offer low light level environments, some almost no light at all, still others brilliant hues of red and blue.

Like most artists, Turrell shies away from giving detailed explinations of his works so that each individual can surmise the piece for themselves. This is not necessarly the case in this work. Turrell wanted, (and did) to build a specific "skyscape" in order to view an eclipse that occurred in England. Like his other "skyscapes," Turrell took the environment and all of its factors, as well as very specific geometry, into account, so that he could construct the perfect medium through which to not just observe the eclipse, but to better magnify the light, or lack thereof, of the eclipse.

The book is a wonderful look at this process, complete with analysis and pictures of the eclipse, the "skyscape," etc. An added bonus is the cd by German composer Paul Schulze, who's approach to his music (a minimalist ambient style, normally) is a perfect match to Turrell's art.

Fans of Turrell, or those who are interested in the interplay between light, our senses, and the reality they both help us create, will find this rather short treatsie to be of invaluable use to them. A wonderfully intriguing work.

Outstanding play with light
James Turrell has long been a major player in the field of light art, and visitors to the Matress Factory museum in Pittsburgh are well aware of his outstanding way of playing with art and images. This amusing meditation on an eclipse is an excellent addition to his body of work

Simply lovely
Robert Lax,who died late last year back in his "home" of Olean,N.Y.,was a writer of spare, minimalist poetry and prose.Lauded by his comtempories{writers as diverse as Levertov,Kerouac,Maxwell and Thomas Merton considered him an absolutelt essential poet}He writes about the Large{the title piece, a reworking of the intoduction to the Gospel of John} to colors. He work is so spare that it becomes meditative. In the early 1960's Lax moved to the island of Patmos, and began life as a hermit. His speech{and poerty }became even more lean, essentially stripping away whatever he viewed as accretion. One poem written like a cascading waterfall, simply spells out colors. His greatest work, the circus of the sun, is reprinted here in part. Lax travelled with a canadian circus for awhile, and viewed the circus, metaphorically, as life. This volume is rounded out with some dairies he keopt in the mid 60's on the Greek Islands. I believe that generations to come will view him as one of the great poets of the century. For that he certainly was. An essential volume!

Quiet as expressed in words
This book describes silence in gorgeous prose and poetry. I recommend it to anyone who loves the sound and feel of the written word and the sound and feel of quiet.

Great sourcebook! Tremendously useful.
This book is well-written and covers a vast scope. Contrary to what the title might lead you to believe, this book covers a lot more than just plain mediums. In fact, it offeres detailed information on just about any faction in the Skinlands that might interact with the Restless Dead: "Boardwalk mediums" found at carnivals and circuses the ruthless Giovanni vampires, even charlatans and frauds who possess no real talent, but manage to offend wraiths with their very presumption and chicanery.

This book is definitely worth the purchase price- it will enrich virtually any Wraith chronicle.

Mediums done right
This is a fine resource for mediums, much better than the Quick and the Dead. The systems stuff is vastly improved, with a battery of new merits and flaws for mediums that I actually found useful (and can be used to supplement or replace the hedge magic paths for interacting with wraiths). There is some good stuff on summoning, a large section on Native American medicine men and shamanic dealings with the dead, a fresh look at many of the old ghost-dealing groups, and a new ability for those people who have had enough with wraiths shouting in their ears.

This tape set is fantastic!
I've listened to this set of tapes dozens of times, and get something new out of it every time. If you want "7 easy steps to being a man", these tapes are not for you. But if you've come to understand that the "male mode" occupies an indispensible mythic and practical place in our world, you've found compatriots and mentors in Bly, Hillman and Meade. Recorded live, and lovingly edited, these tapes are packed with content. I'm ordering another set because I'm wearing my current copy out!

A Must for Men who want more and Women who want find them!
I have had these tapes for 3 years now and have lent them to many men and women. When seeing that there was no review, I had to respond.

These 4 tapes (four hours) are a golden tapestry woven by three men who use combinations of ancient stories, poetry and psychology (stripped bare) to unmask the problems men face in todays relationships, work place and most of all, the talk of "what is desire". Poet Robert Blye (Iron John & Sibling Society), psychologist-author James Hillman and mythologist and story teller Michael Meade lead this 4 hour session interacting with 750 men.

The problems we face as men are great. With more than 50% of the homes in divorce, there is a hunger for the father and for mentors. Women don't want to be mothers to their men, they want men who can be responsible. Kids are killing each other and pressure is building on what is left of the family. Men have become soft, passive. Many have never been initiated, taken a mentor or have never gotten close to their elders. When the marriage comes under pressure, men and women run to their families and Lawyers, the men move out and and responsibility and outcome is decided by the court. The excerpt from Iron John that Blye recites about the work that the boy does "in the Walled Garden, where the lovers meet" meant so much more to me in this setting, combined with all the other material.

I loved James Hillman's translations of older cultures and language as well as his poking at the modern Therapy gurus. Blye, whose book Iron John lead me to these tapes, paints a very graphic view that our trouble, as men, has been evolving/growing long before the industrial revolution. Woodstock, Vietnam and now Clinton (who did not inhale) are just recent road signs on this journey. Michael Meade address and moves the throng with "Sooner murder an infant in it's cradle than nurse unattended desire" as well as his telling of "The Firebird" story. All three also recite many poems that are also included in "Rag and Bone Shop of the Heart" which is a compilation of all their favorite poems.

I have listened to these tapes many times and grown as a man as a result. As Michael Meade warns that "if you are seeking to understand desire you are courting trouble". The alternative is to go through life "just window shopping! You gotta buy something. Become part of the give and take". So try these tapes, men (and women) and find out that there is more.
