The Illuminated Landscape by Peter Poskas
The Illuminated landscape by Peter Poskas is one of the better art publications I've ever purchased. Poskas makes his creative process easily understood by his duscussions on specific works, all of which are beautifly displayed throughtout the book. I read a page every night while viewing each painting, learning values, light, seasons atmospheric changes which he's a master at doing. I purchased the book in 1988 and I am hoping he will publish another one of these great books with more of his great works.

La danza del cambio

Amazon base price: $39.95
Average review score:

Approachable introduction to nonlinear ODE's
Certainly worth the price. Very approachable. I haven't reviewed many similar books -- this text is good enough that I haven't felt the need.

Covers: solution, characterization, and stability analysis, including bifurcation and chaos.

The new 3rd edition is much better and significantly longer than the earlier editions.

Peter Warlock: The Life of Philip Heseltine
Published in Hardcover by Oxford University Press (1996)
Authors: Barry Smith and Ali Smith
Amazon base price: $45.00
Average review score:

THE BEST WORK TO DATE!
Philip Heseltine. taking on many pseudonyms in his short life but better known as Peter Warlock, was editor of "The Sackbut", a publication that took a long time to materialize but was short lived. Generally controversial, the Sackbut was highly regarded by many and especially those who wished to see the "establishment" in the field of British music taken to task. It was Heseltine's pleasure to be one of, if not THE most vociferous critics of his time and history shows that his eloquent and learned use of the English language was used to its fullest degree.

This special paragraph

" . . music is neither old nor modern: it is either good or bad music, and the date at which it was written has no significance whatever. Dates and periods are of interest only to the student of musical history. . . . All old music was modern once, and much more of the music of yesterday already sounds more old-fashioned than works which were written three centuries ago. All good music, whatever its date, is ageless -- as alive and significant today as it was when it was written . . ."

can also be found on page 197 of Barry Smith's highly acclaimed book as titled above. Published in 1994, the centenary of Heseltine's birth, this book is perhaps only the second major and authoritative work on the subject of a controversial figure such as Heseltine. The first one by Warlock's friend and some time companion Cecil Gray, has been out of print for many years.

Published by Oxford University Press, this is an extremely well researched and written work. Warlock scholars are recommended to add this book to their small but unique collection of literature pertaining a figure (in the musical sense) of inimitable quality. Hardback and Paperback now available.

A funny, non-serious book for car lovers!
MAN!! I had no idea of what was in store for me when I picked this book from the shelf. I read one page that was kinda funny and I thought it would be good. It turned out the it was so hilarious I was laughing so hard I could barely breath!!! I read the whole book in one day, and I loved it. The sheer stupidity of the book made it even more funny, with jokes about using engine parts to serve food and laying your tongue across the car battery terminals to test the battery. It had a wacky crossword puzzle that only the author could figure out because the clues made no sense, and that made it more funny. I would definately recommend this book. Jonathan Gray Age 14

excellent book
I always look forward to the next issue in this on-going series, the best i have seen since the Bryan Philpott series of 20 years ago with the same format, keep up the good work. However the latest issue does have a number of captioning errors. P6. Blohm und Voss 138-twin engined-NO. P14. Arado 196 is captioned He 115. P26. Ju 290 is captioned FW 200. P30. B&V 222 is captioned B&V 322. P52 & P53. FW 200 is captioned Ju 88. P63. Dornier 24 is captioned Do 27. This does not diminish my enthusiasm for this series. Indeed i would purchase them just for the illustrations but PLEASE can someone CHECK the captions in future. As i am particularly interested in the Luftwaffe i hope this series continues for many years to come!
