Delia - Oh why do you stay in England?
Delia, oh Delia. The woman who taught me how to make toast! (I was actually making it wrong all these years...) Delia is one of those television personalities who you really would like to have as a friend. Her books are extremely personable and can literally be read aloud - gives you that "Delia is in the house" feeling. The Summer and Winter Collections are Superb books. Also check out How to Cook One and Two. Excellent. Now, where can I buy the How to Cook video collection?

Wonderful!
You have to try the Roasted Peppers recipe - it's easy and I continually impress all dinner guests with the simple dish. The Chicken Basque is delicious and although the fresh fruit terrine needs 24 hours to finish, it tastes great, looks delicious and impresses everyone. It is my favourite cookbook!

This Cook Book Works!
If you are frustated by reading colourful and glossy recipes that turn out disasterous the delicious Delia is for you. Her recipes always work. Her UK television programme back room staff ensure that, as most if not all are demonstrated on TV, and even the most acknowledged cooks in the UK will tell you that it will, yes will, work the first time. My wife, a proffesional cook, makes no excuse for always having her volumes at hand for that sudden emergancy. Typical of the main stream of modern British cuisine in the mid 1990s, full of the feeling and flavours of that oh so elusive English Summer.

Great!!!
I'm a brazilian journalismo student and have seen many of the book's photos in brazilian newspaper. But all together is the best! Congratulations. Tomaz Cavalieri

True to Form
I am a big photojournalist buff. This is everything and more. Photos that are world famous are in this book. If you are into it as much as I am, you should get it.

BULLETIN BUY
You know, when rival news organizations argue about who amoung them is the best, The Associated Press simply reports their battles. The cooperative wrote the book on journalism (actually several of them.) Mark Twain is quoted on the back cover "There are only two forces that can carry light to all corners of the globe, the sun in the heavens and The Associated Press down here." Who else can claim that endorsement? Of course it was Mohandas K. Gandhi who said "I suppose when I go to the Hereafter and stand at the Golden Gate, the first person I shall meet will be a correspondent of The Assocated Press."

truly inspired
This was extremely interesting and diverse; there's something in here for everyone. We bought this for our 22-year-old son who just graduated from Purdue, but I found myself reading it long into the night. A real accomplishment, full of wisdom.

Perfect gift for the thinking grad
Compilations only work if well edited - and this one is. Brilliant novelist Smith brings his wit and originality to this anthology of the best graduation orations of recent years, creating a book which is no mere collection of speeches, but rather a thumbnail history of contemporary American thought and history. Let someone else buy that CD player, because this is the gift your grad should have.

excellent
I loved this book. It's both inspirational and educational and the speeches are chosen with great care. Five stars all the way

The Brink (Peregrine Smith Poetry Competition, 12)

A Remarkable Accomplishment
In "The Brink," Peter Sears offers us a different view of ourselves, our aspirations, and our foibles as human beings. In comfortably accessible language, one poem might make you laugh, another might run a chill right through you, and a third may demand both reactions at once. Each poem is wonderfully surprising and stands on its own, but also, in context, offers illumination to its neighbors.

Mr. Sears is a fine poet. His observations are rendered in a voice that is playful, powerful, and dark, all at the same time. He skillfully wields our language as a caress, a cudgel, a razor, and a lance.

"The Brink" is a remarkable accomplishment.

Read this book: you'll be delighted!
Read this book even if after high school you swore you'd never read a line of poetry again. Each poem in THE BRINK will remind you of what poetry should really be about: the moving, funny, enraging, seductive, delightful, frustrating, humble, bizarre, lonely, love-filled moments of life. Sears' seamless and tight poems (filled with music, cadence and wonderful vernacular) span over a vast range of subject matter, and a vast range of emotions. You'll laugh, gasp, be surprised and moved. You'll be amazed at the universality of Sears' work. This is a poet of open, honest, intelligent and witty generosity, and when you close this book, you'll immediately want to read it again. I loved the monologues of the very old,the tender love poems, the very funny poem about a clumsy, loud male revisiting his old pals in a bar, the poem about dead people revisiting their village, about shoveling snow while it's still snowing; being stuck in a traffic jam, or about identifying with an old and lonely white bear in a zoo. And much, much more. This book won the Peregrine Smith Prize, and should win many more. It certainly won the best poetry book of the year for me.

Very Accurate, very good
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Much more than a nuts & bolts history of the development of the JU-87 Stuka, Peter Smith sets about to present an other version of this dive bomber's successes compared to the typical English & US histories.

Although technical and developmental details are present, along with many fine photos (all black & white, would have preferred a few color), the real heart of this book are the stories behind the Stuka. The pilots, the sorties are recountered here. Also of great interest to a land warfare buff are the stories of air/land battles, the coordination behind the blitzkreig, how the army & airforce learned to work together to beat foes that outnumbered them & had better equipment. Smith also uses facts to back up his position that the Stuka as a bomber, suffered losses less than Lancasters, B-17s, Bristol Blenhiems when those aircraft were used in daylight raids without escort.

In the end, it really doesnt matter if the Stuka was a war winner. The Germans were outnumbered, outproduced, outfought, so no matter what was produced, the end result would be the same. While the Stuka was not a war winner, this book does provide more balance to the fact that it was a good weapon system, especially considering it was on the cutting edge of technology when designed in 1933/34. It survived to fight through the last days of WWII, a claim few others can make. I definately recommend this book.

Great for Stuka buff
Peter C. Smith is the author several out of print and currently available books on the Stuka. This book is thorough and well researched, detailing many minor details and little known facts about this well known aircraft. The photos are all b&w and not as valuable as many other books on the market for model builders. There is a lot of "meat" in this book and must be read to be appreciated, however there is usually one or two photographs on every page that illustrates the corresponding text.

The Old Man and Mr. Smith : a fable
Published in Unknown Binding by Michael O'Mara Books ()
Author: Peter Ustinov
Amazon base price: $
Used price: $11.60
Average review score:

Droll Stuff
In this amusing fable, God and the Devil have taken mortal forms to meet and walk the earth in examination of their handiwork. Naturally, there are a number of stumbling blocks. One, when they first need to pay for something, God pulls random currency from his pocket. This quickly gets the duo in trouble with the FBI, who chase them for the remainder of the trip. Two, no one believes them when they tell them who they really are (hardly surprising). Starting in the US, the bickering twosome end up hitting a number of contents and capitols before their time runs out. Ustinov uses this conceit to make loads of wry observations on humanity, as well specific cultural and political types. There are lots of deep thoughts stirred into this romp, and although a bit hammy, it is worth a read. It definitely makes me want to read some other of Ustinov's fiction, as he has a nimble way with his prose.

excelent, a must read for any cynic
Peter Ustinov unleashes a stuning aray of irony and logic, as he tracks "the old man" and "Mr. Smith" through thier less than triumphant return to earth. One of the most thought provoking books I've read since Desolation Angles.

I wish my son would stop asking for Peter's Trucks...
I renewed this book from the library so often that I bought our own copy. The clincher was watching my 28-month old sit on the floor and turn each page, reciting all the lines. The reviews don't do justice to this charming story with fun illustrations.

WE LOVE TRUCKS!
"Peter finds trucks wherever he goes" and so will you when you read this fun book. As an educational tool, it can help with learning to rhyme and increasing memory skills! My two year old can recite the contents of each truck after I prompt him with the description. We always take extra time at the ice cream truck to pretend we are eating ice cream from the truck!

An Excellent Textbook
Wolpert's developmental biology textbook is evidently an excellent text in its field. The authors are all well recognized in thier research areas. The organization of the text is also very well written. The summary of the concept presented at the end of each chapter is helpful. The figures presented througout the text are clear and the language used to explain them is simple but very understandable. Compared with the well-known Gilbert's text, this text may be less in dept but you can get the concept from this book for only half of the time reading Gilbert's. It is a nice book to have both for the new beginner in the field and for just a quick reference.

Greatest revolution of text in development
@I read this book for 2 months. Chapters of regeneration is more impressive than any other chapters. Moreover, I impressed that this bppk is best for beginners and students. Composition is also excellent.
