Understand poultry production in plain English
As a practicing Veterinary Surgeon I am often approached by clients about poultry diseases. Although I have a working knowledge of diagnosing and treating the diseases I felt that I had a lack of knowledge in how to manage poultry. After all, most poultry diseases are a physical manifestation of management mistakes. What stock densities are desirable? How far apart should the drinking points be? What mortality rate in broilers is considered average? How do you spot a poor ventilation system? Etc. Etc. This book has been an immense help in helping me understand the issues surrounding poultry management. It is easy and interesting to read and has been written in plain English without insulting the reader's intelligence. The section on diseases is concise and to the point since there are other books that deal with poultry diseases in more depth. At least now I can advise clients on how to avoid diseases or how to increase production by adjusting their management principles. A must read for student, vet and farmer.

Excellent
This was a great stride forward compared to his other books. I think "the rive in winter" is a superb novel, much superior to his earlier work. This should become a classic.

terrific
A moving book, one that could be favorably compared to the fiction of A. N. Wilson or even V.S. Pritchett. I loved it, and can't wait to read more.

Small Hours of the Night, Selected Poems of Roque Dalton
Dalton's poetry is intense, and exudes revolution in every verse. Knowing a history of the poet's life and struggle, you get a greater feel and appreciation for all his work. His pain, love, and hate all mixed together delivers the most powerful poetry I've ever read. I enjoyed this book immensely, and recommend it to all of those that are a rebel at heart.

Must have for your collection
In Dalton's words you can hear his pain, loss and anger; but it's his love and romantic vision that you take away. I tresure this book and it stands as my most read book.

Brilliant
Simply Brilliant. The two detail-oriented authors paint an accurate picture of middle America in the 1980's. They describe the lengths Battle Creek goes to, to bring a large employer into the city. A great study that should be read by all business majors.

A "Must Read" for Students of Business and Economic Leaders
This book chronicles how a progressive, forward thinking community (Battle Creek, Michigan) went about attracting one of Japan's largest automotive suppliers, Nippondenso. It outlines the community's economic and political history and all the forces that went into landing this economic entitiy.

Shift through the hype & focus on the essentials
David Rosenzweig is the rare individual who is creative and practical at the same time. Readers of his new book will benefit from his keen ability to shift through the marketing hype and focus on the essentials that will help them analyze their individual situation and successfully integrate marketing into their day-to-day operations.

How to link a company with its hot prospects
Growing larger while getting smaller has become the new imperative of the 90's. Do more but spend less. Downsize while you expand. Stretch your vision but shrink your budget. David Rosenzweig offers some interesting solutions to this dilemma with this book on business development. 'Spend Less-Sell More' offers a simple 13-step process that any company can use to integrate its marketing and selling functions to optimize sales. Its goal is to ensure that your most valuable selling resources wind up focused on your most important prospects. Rosenzweig uses a visual metaphor-a target with concentric rings and a bull's-eye-to depict the selling environment, with prospects clustered in the outer ring. The goal of a marketing program is to identify the best prospects. Once they have been identified and are in motion, it's the sales force's job to move them into the bull's eye to close the sale. One of the real strengths of this book is the systematic approach it takes to identifying and selecting the right target audience. Your ideal target market is that set of companies whose needs match up most closely with what you have to offer. By definition, they are the companies most likely to become your best and most profitable accounts. The objective of what Rosenzweig calls the Business Development Process is to identify and track these prime prospects so that you can spend your selling resources on those who come closest to that ideal fit. Thus the book puts a real emphasis on analyzing the features and strengths of your product and weighing them against both target market and potential competitors. And it provides excellent tools to help you do so. Understanding-and communication-how you fit the needs if the target market is the first step in moving prospects through the rings and into the bull's-eye. Rosenzweig then recommends a variety of telemarketing and direct-mail techniques to further screen and cull the list. At this stage, the goal is to build beginning relationships and explore business fits, and the emphasis is on a gentle exchange of information rather than a hard selling effort. As the process builds to an agreement of mutual interest and potential fit, a concentrated selling campaign can begin. When executed properly, this approach allows you to focus on those who are closest to close. You unleash your best selling efforts on your best prospects, maximizing new accounts, new business and your bottom line. It is often said that nothing happens in business until somebody sells something. 'Spend Less-Sell More' is likely to make your "selling somebody" a good deal more successful and your business more robust. END

What they don't teach in seminary
Special churches need special care and author, David Ray, knows that this is true for the small churches of the country. With our emphasis on "bigger is better", the pastor of the small church has been ignored. Ray points out the delights of working with small churches and offers a myriad of suggestions to address every need of small church life. He offers hope where most authors have focused solely on the challenges. This book gave me fresh insight and renewed vigor for my own beloved small church. I highly recommend it

The Entrepreneurial Life: How to Go for It and Get It

Authors: A. David Silver and David Silver
Amazon base price: $12.95
Used price: $29.26
Collectible price: $7.15
Average review score:

One of best books on entrepreneurship
All of Silver's books are great, but this one is especially good. The other books describe how you can craft a competitive advantage, what he calls "quantum companies." This book describes what is required to become an entrepreneur.

This book is unique in its insight into the life and background of an entrepreneur. In addition it provides a very clear description of the start up of a new company.

A. David Silver is a venture capitalist and has a long experience with entrepreneurs.

Unfortunately this is a 1980's book and it may be difficult to find. After just finding this book I wished I had read it earlier, perhaps with another of his great books on competitive advantage.

This book is one of those that should be rated an 8 on a scale of 1 to 5. If you're an entrepreneur, or want to be, you definitely owe it to yourself (and your spouse) to get this book. You may be surprised.
