Mediocre
I agree with the first reviewer--not a very useful text. More academic than anything else. I pretty much walked away with nothing from this book. Is choppy and just a compilation of various topics written by a variety of authors--it is like reading different research papers. None of the book is integrated. As the first reviewer said, a better book would have been a text written by one author with an integration of ideas.

A good reference work but not a practical working text
This book is a compilation of chapters on malingering and deception by leaders in the field. Like all edited works, it suffers from disjunctions in quality and style from chapter to chapter. I was hoping for a practical manual of how to work with clients. Instead, I got a book that is solidly researched but that would appeal more to a researcher than a clinician. I would have preferred a book by a single author who synthesizes the works of leaders in the field. The content is good but one has to do a lot of work to find the clinically useful material. In addition, the concepts do NOT come alive in case examples. Finally, the print is rather tiny, so those over 40 will strain their eyes trying to read the text.

Open the door to better understanding the "fakes!"
Dr. Rogers certainly knows his "stuff!" Take it from one of those guy's who has "been there and done that." His arrows hit the mark! Deception and malingering, these are not just mere words to echo in the wind. The author walks along side of the reader, while all the while supporting his professional perspectives with documented and keenly researched facts.

Expertise is constantly evident, with solid exploration being given to 1). Where we've been; 2). Where we're at; 3). And, where we're going regarding better detecting the "fakes" and how to best utilize the available wealth of information contained within these pages.

The true magnitude and complexity surrounding this element of psychopathology, etc., to the qualified and perceptive researcher, is crystal clear, indeed.

This book ought to be readily available to all professionals claiming to be experts in this potentially deadly arena of forensics!

Not recommended
I am a consultant involved in setting up enterprise-level GroupWise systems. I found the book mostly useless. At least once, it provides completely inaccurate information, which put me in embarassing situation, because I made a recommendation based on what I read. This book is poorly organized and fails to provide the information that is most important for a GroupWise administrator.

Great book--All-Around Reference
I was very impressed with this book. It was the foundation of obtaining my GroupWise 5 CNA, GroupWise 5 CNE, and Master CNE -- Messaging. I still use it as a reference.

Best working guide I ever bought!!!
This book has saved my hide over and over. It has paid for itself many times over. Buy it!!

This book leaves something to be desired
I have been reading this book for a class. I must say that this book is not as detailed as I would like it to be. I am an engineer and my expectation was that when a statement is made details would be provided to backup the statements. And the figures in the book are not easy to understand quickly. There must be a better book out there.

Excellent Resource
As an ASQ certified Mechanical Inspector and Quality Technician, I would like to say that; This text is a fine resource for any person working in the metrology field. It covers a wide range of topics and is well worth having. Written in a style that is both informatve AND interesting. I was well pleased with this book.

Great book for dimensional calibration technicians
This book would be useful to any machinist, but it is specifically written for the dimensional calibration technician, a wealth of practical, useful information. Thanks.

How Golf Clubs Really Work and How to Optimize Their Design

Out of date and poor scientific methods
Golf club components have changed considerably since this book was published. Many of the conclusions are arrived at through small sample testing (three different lengths of ideal shafts and concluding one of them is ideal) and are inaccurate. I would recommend anything by Dave Pelz rather than this book.

How golf clubs work, in great detail
Werner and Greig have written an excellent book on club design that is suprisingly practical. Each chapter is short and readable. The subject matter is directly applicable to playing golf. Golfers who have read Pelz and Hogan will enjoy the combination of analysis and golfing tips. The graphs and technical information can be difficult to interpert, but aren't essential to understanding the key points.

Finally, facts over opinion.
This is a terrific book for those who have been searching for truth about golf clubs. The authors have developed a mathematical model of the golf club and have used computers to analyze innumerable combinations of head speed, center or gravity, club loft, club length, etc. They have come up with an analysis of what is important and what doesn't matter in golf club design. Here's what works for a driver: long (46 inches), low center of gravity, huge club face, unique bulge and roll, and very stiff light shaft. All the other stuff is of no importance, so forget about it. Outstanding.

Not worth the paper it's printed on...
A book full of unsubstantiated and outright fradulent allegations co-written by convicted child pornographer Richard Delgaudio...not recommended.

No real proof or facts, just fiction
China doll, a book written by Roger Canfield and Richard Delgaudio, is more than a rush to judgement of what happen to Nuclear weapon secrets, it express a hate for the Clinton Presidency with, unsubstaniated, charges that part of his campaign money came from the Red Chinese. There are many wild charges like this one in this book.

There is also a long list of false chages made against Los Alamos scientist Wen Ho Lee. He is accused of downloading 50 years of Nuclear secrets and giving them to chinese agents during one of his trips to china.

The spy charges against Dr. Lee were false, and it was something he was never charged with. At this time Dr. Lee is free with 58 of the 59 charges against him dropped. With one kept on him to keep the Justice dept. and Energy dept. from looking totally ridiculous.

China doll shows no proof, or even sources that prove their charges against President Clinton. And the few sources quoted in this book have been discredited or suspect.

ABC News.com writer wrote an article [Errors mar the cox report] that discredits the report put together by Rep. Christopher Cox. The article cited false information and a distortion of facts and history on Nuclear Weapons Spying.

APB News.com writer also wrote an article critical of the report for the same reasons.

And there are a number of web sites by people who have knowledge in the area of science and nuclear energy who researched the report and have also discredited it.

The New York Times story that help start this by publishing charges by Notra Trulock, a former energy dept. security official. The Times made no attempt to prove these charges true before publishing the article.

Their other sources of information include the Washington Times and the World Net Daily. Both are Conservative and not fans of President Clinton, which translates in to bias reporting.

An investigation has shown no link to Dr. Lee and Los Alamos over the stolen "Crown Jewels" of the Nuclear arsenal that included the W-88. It also showed that Clinton was not lax in investigating charges of espionage. Dr. Lee name was dropped by the Justice Dept. as a suspect.

There will be many people who will read China doll, and want to believe every word in it. But the charges made in it are false. This is another Conservative Witch hunt that went nowhere, and it included touches of racism that scrapegoat Chinese Americans as spies for China.

The key sources for this book have been proven wrong.

Trulock has resigned.

The Times was forced to admit they were wrong about about the article.

After being proven wrong by an 60 minutes investigation, Energy Secretary Bill Richardson, is still in denial of his involvement that got this mess started.

Cox stated that the case against lee was starting to look like Richard Jewel.

Finally, since the case against Dr. Lee fell apart a number of Republician Senators who accused Clinton of treason have become silent and left the matter alone.

This biased book does not plan to do that.

Account of Clinton and Reno's Treason, less the Liberal Spin
Dr. Canfireld and Mr. Delgaudio's account of the treasonous actions and illegal campaign funding involving Ex-President Clinton and Ex-Attorney General Janet Reno, are unvarnished and accurate. I had only obtained bits and pieces of information involving Communist Red China's influence over Ex-President Clinton's administration due to the medias liberal spin. However, was horrified by the legitimate threat to our national sovereignty and safety courtesy of Clinton and Reno. The book goes into elaborate detail evidencing how Clinton used his executive power to run interference for the Riady's, and Chung, who contributed heavily to his election in order to receive highly classified American military technology. To just name a few of Clinton's treasonous activities covered in this book are as follows:

l. Evidence of Clinton and Reno's intentional roadblock, obstructing the Cox report from being released which revealed Red China's progress in developing a State-of-the-Art military with nuclear weapons on a par with the U.S.A.

2. Clinton's malicious systematic dismantle of the Reagan Strategic Defense Initiative.

3. Clinton's signing of control waivers allowing transfer of improved missile guidance systems to Red China; although being fully aware that Red China had nuclear-tipped ICBM's targeted at the U.S.A. Then vetoing Republican missile defense legislation.

4. Clinton intentionally loosened export controls on missile technology by moving approvals out of Defense and State departments into the pro-trade Commerce Department - being fully aware that red China could easily obtain this highly sensitive technology.

5. Clinton did not disapprove of North Korea firing missiles into Japanese and Alaskan airspace. And intentionally attempted to conceal Red China firing missiles into Taiwan airspace from the American people.

6. Clinton was opposed to the Theater Missile Defense system which could protect the U.S.A. from Reed China's nuclear missiles. I would recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in understanding the extent that Clinton and Reno have made our country and we as a people vulnerable to foreign aggressors.

Yes and no. . .
This book left a mixed impression. Yes, the meteorological content might be up to date. Sometimes the content is very short, sometimes the style is very boring and old-fashioned. No, this book is not well illustrated. Most of the graphics look awful. Handmade illustrations are not longer good enough for a specialist publication in the 3rd millenium. I had better save my money.

exhaustive
The best book on the subject without a mathematical presentation!Despite the lack of formulae, this volume is really exhaustive. The theory is thoroughly presented. In fact diagrams, graphs and maps are simply abundant along the text, supplying a lively image of the physical processes. Many photographic plates are provided with detailed comments as well.Overall, a splendid and vast array of pictures that gives an engrossing description of scientific concepts. This book is a superb reference for professionals and laymen alike.

Richard J. Daley: Politics, Race, and the Governing of Chicago
Published in Paperback by Northern Illinois Univ Pr (1995)
Author: Roger Biles
Amazon base price: $18.00
Used price: $9.50
Average review score:

Inaccurate, mostly drawn from previous biographies
Biles claims that Daley held back the 1960 vote to deliver for JFK. Len O'Connor, in his better _Clout_, tell us that Daley delivered the vote early to demoralize West Coast Republicans at the risk of being out-defrauded in IL by Du Page County. Other flaws include claiming that former 43rd Ward Alderman William Singer was elected to the 44th in 1969 and use of contemporary ward maps to illustrate returns for old elections with different ward layouts. Unfortunately, better Daley biographies such as _Clout, and Royko's _Boss_ are out-of-print.

Nonbiased
In my opinion Biles offers a non biased historical background on Mayor Daley. It is a good book, very interesting.

Veiled motivations
I have been a fan of the Richard Jury series since its beginning, but this, the latest installment, was incredibly disappointing. First, and most importantly, the "mystery" is secondary to Grimes' primary goal, which is to lambaste a real pharmaceutical company. She is an avid animal rights activist, (for which I do not fault her), but this format should not be a platform for her political agenda, at least without notifying her reader of her intentions. Her attacks dominate the book. (Biting the Moon, her unabashed effort to this end, is absolutely awful.) Beyond this, the editing was erratic, with numerous misplaced quotation marks and grammatical errors. Lastly, we can only conclude that Grimes views her American audience as blissfully ignorant and uncaring of UK geography. Check the proximity of Hadrian's Wall to Cambridge. All together a dismal disappointment, especially as the denouement to Jury bleeding out in the last novel.

hardly vintage Grimes
I find myself agreeing with the first few reviewers about "The Grave Maurice" -- it was not a very engrossing or compelling a read. The first few chapters were very well done. Martha Grimes sets up the premise for the mystery-plot beautifully: Richard Jury is in hospital (The London Royal Hospital) recovering from having been seriously shot in "The Blue Last." Bored and restless, his interest is somewhat piqued when his friend, Melrose Plant, tells him of a conversation he overheard at the Grave Maurice (a pub near the hospital). Apparently Jury's surgeon, Roger Ryder, suffered a tremendous loss a couple of years ago when his fifteen year old daughter, Nell, went missing. Coincidentally, Ryder decides to confide in Jury as well, and to ask for his help in resolving the issue of his missing daughter. It turns out that Ryder's father owns a very prestigious stud farm in Cambridgeshire, and Nell, who was completely horse mad as well as possessing a rather magical empathy with horses, was living with her grandfather when she was abducted. The strange thing was that there was no demand for a ransom. And in spite of the fact that it's been almost two years, none of the Ryders have ever given up hope that Nell will return to them one day. And what Roger Ryder wants from Jury to take a fresh look at Nell's case and to see if there are any new avenues that the investigation could take. And with some alacrity Jury agrees. But the discovery of the body of a mysterious murdered woman on the Ryder Stud Farm soon throws a spanner in the works. Who was she? Why was she at the farm? And could her murder have anything to do with Nell's kidnapping? These are the questions Jury has to find answers to if he is unlock the secrets that the Ryder farm holds.

As I noted earlier, the novel opens well, but after the first few chapters, the book suddenly seems to loose focus. There is plenty of atmosphere. Though I'm still not sure about the bits where we read what the horses actually think/feel -- it didn't really advance the mystery plot and just seemed to get in the way of plot development even though it did (I suppose) lend itself to the feel and mood of the plot. And there is a lot of character development. And again I wondered about this -- some of the characters just didn't need to be fully developed as secondary characters at all as they were not at all essential to the plot. Grimes, however, spared nothing in fleshing them out properly. And again I felt as if this did get in the way of the smooth flow of the mystery plot. I did a lot of FLIPPING and SKIMMING while reading this novel.

And again we have the usual characters (Vivianne, Aunt Agatha, Trueblood, Carole-anne, etc) that put in an appearance even though they have very little to do with the main plot, as well as episodes that had nothing at all to do with the mystery proper -- like the bits that dealt with fox hunting. How exactly it contributed to the storyline at hand still puzzles me. I found all these extra bits to be distracting and really irritating. And while I did appreciate Martha Grimes's salute to Josephine Tey, this novel did not at all compare well to "The Daughter of Time" in that that book was a totally engrossing read that really sucked you into the mystery at hand. Sad to say, "The Grave Maurice" was not a very satisfying Richard Jury/Melrose Plant murder mystery. There have been better Richard Jury/Melrose Plant mystery novels, and might I suggest that time would be better spent rereading any one of them?

Riddles Wrapped into a Mystery Springing from a Tragedy
This novel reminded me of one of those Russian nesting dolls, where you keep finding another doll inside of the one you are holding, when you take the doll apart. There's enough plot and character development here for 6 novels.

I graded the book down mostly because no one should read this novel without having read quite a few of the earlier ones in the series. Most of the best references and ironies won't mean much otherwise. And many of them are rather long sections. Even in a series, authors need to make novels as stand-alone as they can.

I also graded the book down because one plot element just didn't make sense to me (the location of the missing heroine for two years).

On the other hand, I thought that the development of the theme of honoring animal rights was well done. I don't remember a novel that does it any better.

Along the way, I had a lot of fun. Regular Richard Jury and Martha Grimes fans should definitely read this one! The Grave Maurice is one of Melrose Plant's best and most humorous outings. You see new sides of Richard Jury, and they will make him more appealing to you.

I also appreciated the reference to Josephine Tey's wonderful book about Richard III. The Grave Maurice is also as steeped in English horse racing as the typical Dick Francis effort, which made the book all the more appealing to me.

After you finish this story, think about the moral priorities for you in protecting life and liberty! What comes first?

While I appreciated the simple format, and agree their is a need for a precise book that speaks directly to teens about this important topic, I would NOT recommend this particular book to anyone! Among other faults, it minimized the importance of breastfeeding and the magnatude of abortion.
