This is the man
Fascinating and illuminating book about the way movie classics were made in the 30's and 40's. This man knew his job and we are lucky that in the making he wrote those long memos. The people they were sent to found them annoying. We movie fans find them fascinating.

Engrossing and informative and never dull
I was a bit leery of a book of just memoes but ... This is truly an extraordinary book, full of insights into every aspect of film making. The most interesting parts are about scripts and script construction. That was what Selznick had a genius for, and that comes through clearly. Some of his faults come through too. There are a number of memoes about his life and emotions so you get a picture a man not just an executive.

For anyone who likes old movies a must.

Selznick Redux
It's a genuine pleasure to see this 1972 volume back in print again. Practically the entire history of classic Hollywood can be seen within the pages of this fascinating series of memos, a veritable stream of behind the scenes trivia and the most impressive book of name-dropping ever seen in print. The cinematic genius of Selznick and Company is told as only it should be told...in the Master's own words.

Keeps on delighting
The girl was quite a firecracker. Again, just as charming as Little House, but the storytelling is rich and more reflective of who Rose was. This series truly equals the charm and storytelling of Laura's story. Kudos to those who thought to bring this series to print.

This book starts out nice but there are disaster at the end.
It's time for new beginng! The wilders' have their first real Buchering Time, and Rose goes to her first party. But then their life is full of disasters: a cyclone, a long drought and a trerrble fire hits Rocky Ridge Farm. What can they do?

Another great Rose book!
Hard times have come to Rocky Ridge Farm. There is a terrible cyclone and tornado family. Can Rose and her family save Rocky Ridge Farm? A must read for Little House fans.

Absolutely bewitching!
I wasn't sure what to expect with this anthology, but I found myself enthralled from beginning to end. Nnedi Okorafor's "Crossroads", Seth Lindberg's "Atropos", and James Dorr's "Madness" were special delights.

Stories for all tastes
A great mix of chilling, horrifying, and otherwise entertaining stories.

Very Satisfying!
This is a great compilation of magic, madness, culture and creativity. All of the stories were pretty satisfying, some of them terrifying! There are some writers here that are going to go places. Watch for the authors of the two longest pieces, Nnedi Okorafor (her story is called Crossroads) and James S. Dorr (he wrote a story called Madness).

Me encantan los libros de arte discográfico de Roger Dean
Me gustaría saber dónde puedo conseguir libros del autor, tales como "The Flights of Icarus" o "Views". Gracias, y espero que se reimpriman pronto. Un saludo

Great to view great to learn
This book is a must. If you only like music or if you love the covers more than the music inside or if you are learning to design covers...Well, this book has it all. The covers are show by elements in commom, so you can judge by yourself about the criativity of the designers. Roger Deam is a famous artist well know by his covers and stages for the rock group Yes. But this does not interfere with the overall result. The guys did a fantastic job compiling all the covers in this book. There are rock covers, jazz covers, latim, dance, disco, and so on. All possible covers are there. Don't hesitate. Buy it now!

Excellant General Surgery Text Book
This is an excellant text book of general surgery. The book covers all the basic topics of surgery in a great mannor. There are plenty of good quality pictures and illustrations. The book is well divided into chapters. There is a summary at the end of each topic which gives a reivew of all the contents. I would highly recommend this book for rmedical students and surgical residents.

Outstanding introductory surgical text
I am a graduating senior medical student, and I happened to come upon this text quite by accident. Intending only to browse it for the moment, I found the text to be captivating. The author gives a clear and concise overview of every major surgical topic in a way that is approachable and easily understandible. The tables and figures nicely complement the "high yield" text. I only wish I had this text when I did my surgical clerkship.

going to the source
Ames and Hall have pulled in the often-neglected cosmological origins of the DDJ, inspired by strips found with the Guodian strips.

The authors have been meticulous in picking through the intricacies of some fairly complex terms in a thorough, yet succinct, way.

I really really like the holistic perspective in the authors' interpretation of the verses. Instead of feeling like I'm being preached at from the pulpit, it feels like I'm sitting at a table over coffee and listening. It is with great sorrow that I read of Hall's passing. Knowing this team of writers will collaborate no more makes me sad.

Daoism realized!
I am now in my third decade of Taijiquan and Qigong play. I teach both of these Chinese forms. I have 14 different translations of the Dao De Jing, four of the Art of Warfare and five of the I Jing. For many years, I have been trying to make sense of the variations in translation. My experiences -- physical, mental and spiritual - from taijiquan and qigong have not always been congruent with my "rational" understanding of the written works.

Roger Ames translation s of the Dao De Jung, Yuan Dao and SunZi has dramatically changed everything. Ames has done what no one else has done. He has attempted to understand the Daoist writings within the classical Chinese mode of thought and then translate that into English without the accompanying Western dualistic (Cartesian) baggage that has imbued all previous translations.

Ames insights into classical Chinese "cosmology, ontology and epistemology are exemplary and amazingly revealing. No previous translation had achieved his depth of insight.

I am indebted to Roger for these wonderful translations and explications of traditional Daoist thinking and being. My "new" understanding of Daoist being in the world or as Roger says, "way-making", has allowed completely new insights and abilities to emerge from my taijiquan and qigong.

Anyone who has an interest in Daoism can do nothing better than to obtain copies of Ames Dao De Jing, Yuan Dao, Sunzi and Thinking from the Han. You will be, as I am, delighted with the concept of the Wu-forms and the idea that much of the Dao De Jing derives from traditional folks songs. Imagine singing or chanting the Dao! This connects, sympathetically, for me at least, to Australian songlines and to Dineh "harmony & beauty".

Ames work is essential reading for anyone who hopes to understand the classical Chinese worldview and become realized.

A Great Book
This is a great book. It is not difficult to read. The style is very informal and at times actually humourous. It does not follow the definition-lemma-proof way of doing things at the expense of leaving simple definitions out, but these can be easily found somewhere else. The book contains an enormous amount of information, and the authors are clearly men of great knowledge and depth. The book is very nicely produced (from a 1st edition) by Cambridge U Press. Very clearly printed, and at a low price for the volume. I highly recommend both volumes to anyone who works in stochastic processes, or mathematical finance (assuming one wants to learn things, rather than just talk about them).

Excellent Treatment of Theory of Diffusion, Martingales, Ito
Although not an easy read, this book contains a wealth of information on diffusion, martingales and Ito calculus. Reading difficulty is comparable to Karatzas/Shreve. Mastery of topics included enables the reader to get understanding of most of the current research papers in this field.

A Superb Policy Analysis
Stanley Changnon and his colleagues have written the best, and most comprehensive analysis of what really happened with the biggest climate event of the century, the 1997-1998 El Nino. What is unique about this book is that they carefully look at both the devastation that occured and the positive impacts from the mild winter -- fewer deaths from ice storms, more shopping when people went out in milder weather, less fuel oil. They also point out the places where the forecast worked, and where it had problems. As society gets more and more sensitive to weather events, we will need more thoughtful probing into how we have responded and how we will respond. This book sets the stage, and is written by experts who have analyzed other big weather events. I strongly recommend it.

Enjoyable
I thoroughly enjoyed reading the book and that is why I read. It was interesting from the beginning, had me wondering if some was fact not fiction at least until near the end. The book did not get bogged down anywhere. The kind of book I love to hate, one I can't stop reading.

Terrific!
In a word this book was terrific! You don't see the plot twists coming. It is a fast paced, action packed, entertaining book that you can't put down.
