Excellent book for reference and realistic price guide
This book is a must for the used equipment buyer. The equipment is critiqued by the author and the book well written and easy to understand. I buy and sell gear and use this book as a realistic price guide and for reference. There are many makes and models of cameras. When choosing a camera it is hard to determine what to buy and how much to pay. McBrooms Camera Bluebook helps you make an informed decision. I am anxiously awaiting the new edition.

11 great Mythos tales
Edward P. Berglund is an exceptional editor and writer whose DICIPLES OF CTHULHU (both the earlier edition and the revised later version) are essential for lovers of "Yog-Sothothery" and eldrich tales. Berglund has developed his own niche, an area of Oregon, as a setting for his stories. After reading these eleven tales, you will wish there were eleven more.

Excellent
What a wonderful book. If you are not familiar with the work of Stanley Sargent, I heartily recommend this book. For once Cthulhu Mythos aficionados can revel in a new, individual voice. Indeed, it is the distinct "voice" of each of the selections in this book that remains so impressive. That and the fact that Sargent (like Robert Bloch before him) is one of the few Mythos writers that successfully mixes horror and humor.

Probably one of the most satisfying aspects about the "Taint" is that the reader gets to sample Sargent in various aspects of his craft - from straight, Mythos horror, to subtle humor, to irreverent poetry and well-researched analysis. (The central novella, Nyarlatophis, set in ancient Egypt, is also superbly researched and delivered.) His range is as varied as is his manner of delivery - from a creepy "Live Bait," a sequel to H.P. Lovecraft's famous (and disturbing) "Shadow Over Innsmouth," to a thought provoking "Black Brat of Dunwich"-- a different interpretation of Lovecraft's "The Dunwich Horror." The two should be read side by side for the remarkable insights and conclusions Sargent manages to draw from Lovecraft's original story. To be honest, I found all the stories in this volume interesting and surpirsingly successful - despite their different construction and delivery. In the last story: "Double Screecher" Sargent manages to perfectly capture the claustrophobic paranoia of an insecure man in a movie theater. But don't be misled, you will think the story is going one way but then Sargent will pull the rug out from under you and go in an entirely different direction. Fabulous!

Another aspect of Sargent's savvy work that I found most appealing was his fluid style - and the individual timbre of each story which had a distinct feeling and "voice" all their own. Part of this is due to his gift of knowing how to give the reader just enough detail to prompt their mind into its own tangents of description. In other words, instead of describing something in complete detail, he gives the reader just enough key words or phrases which then propels their mind into creating its own mental scenarios. A rare gift. I found this especially impressive in such stories as "Live Bait."

If all that were not enough, the book has illustrations by D. L. Hutchinson, Allen Koszowski, Daniel Alan Ross, Peter Worthy, Jeffrey Thomas and Stanley Sargent himself! The book is also given a superb introduction by Richard A. Lupoff, which immediately establishes the quality of entertainment that will be found between the book's covers, and each story is prefaced by comments from none other than Robert M. Price - the respected and veteran Lovecraft scholar.

Do yourself a favor and get this book. Sargent is a vivid, colorful writer. It is most unfortunate that his first volume of stories, Ancient Exhumations, is now out of print.

An Excellent Book for the collector
I enjoyed this book and think many collectors of Fast food toys would appreciate the depth of coverage of the many collectible restaurant toys out there. Has an accurate price guide which is always nice since myself as a collector and collectible store owner can't always seem to find prices for some of the more obscure toys out there. I will recommend to my customers who I sell to and buy from. Great photos and overall a worthy book to add to the collector of hard to find toys and items from the too many fast food chains. I enjoyed it and think many collectors will too.

Know a collector? BUy him/her this book
My brother is a collector of these fast food toys, has been for years. Now that I've bought him this guide, He'll be able to look up the stuff in his collection, and see how much it is worth. This book also talks about how to look for bargains, and tells some of the backgrounds of the various fast food places. I just know that he'll get hours of fun out of this book.

Local citizen makes good
I first read about Mr. Sodaro's book in my local newspaper (The Hour, Norwalk, CT), and found his concept for a book to be facinating. I later heard him speak on the topic of fast food toys and (of course), his book, at a couple of events in the area, and determined to seek out the book and purchase a copy for myself. Sure enough, it proved to be every bit as interesting as Mr. Sodaro was in person. While I am a collector of toys and such, I really had never given much thought to fast food giveaways as legitimate toy items until I heard Mr. Sodaro speak, and then read his book. Very informative. I recommend it to anyone who collects toys, or has eaten at a fast food location.

One Who Walked Alone: Robert E. Howard the Final Years
Published in Hardcover by Donald M. Grant Publisher, Inc. (1986)
Author: Novalyne Price Ellis
Amazon base price: $30.00
Collectible price: $100.59

Historically important, not very captivating.
This memoir of the relationship between Novalyne Price and Robert Ervin Howard is a fine historical document. It does have its moments of humor, pathos, and insight. However, it's not a very entertaining book, and one can see why Mrs. Ellis (Novalyne's married name)never became a professional author (until this book). I'm glad I bought it and read it, but principally for its historical significance into the life of Robert E. Howard, one of the 20th Century's finest writers of adventure fiction. ONE WHO WALKS ALONE was made into the excellent flim, THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD, starring Vincent Donofrio as Howard, and Renee' Zellwegger as Price. A case in which a film was better and more effective than the book.

Still and all, I do highly recommend ONE WHO WALKED ALONE. It's a fairly good read, and does give a great deal of insight into the strange life of Robert Ervin Howard.

Mrs. Ellis captures it perfectly.
I began reading R. E. Howard's stories about ten years ago when a very intelligent friend informed me that Howard had been one of the best writers, along with H.P Lovecraft and Clark Ashton Smith, for Weird Tales magazine at its beginning. These stories swept me away into Howard's incredibly savage Hyborian age, with their action, devilish plotting and larger than life heros. I realized, before reading the introductions about Howard, that the man who had written these stories was larger than life himself. So when I saw the movie of his life, The Whole Wide World, in the grocery store, I rented it. At the end it credited Novalyne Price Ellis's memoir, One Who Walked Alone, as its inspiration. N. P. Ellis was Howard's girlfriend during the last four years of his life, the period when he was writing his Conan stories. Mrs. Ellis, a great high school speech teacher and drama coach at the time, kept diaries and observations of her time spent with R.E.H. and had them transcribed much later into the memoir. N.P.E. had wanted to become a selling writer for most of her life, and the memoir shows that she had a tremendous eye for detail, assessing what drove people, and the speech patterns of the time. This is a fabulous book told as dramatized encounters, arranged with perfectly-captured coversations she'd had with Howard and others, and carefully detailed scene development. I enjoyed the story so well that I actually went to Howard's house in Cross Plains, TX which they like to show as a museum. I spoke with many people there who knew about the Howards.

A wonderful movie based off a book
Dear readers, I have not yet had the pleasure of reading this divine book by Novalyne Price but I hope to soon. I would like to say though that if a reader has not yet seen the movie that goes along with this book or someone perhaps who hasn't read it but like me wanted to experience the movie first, this is a most beautiful story about two very different people and the never ending struggle that faces a writer with a wide imagination. The young Novalyne is marvoulously played by actress, Renee Zellwegar and the writer is played by actor, Vincent D'Onofrio (men in black, and Law and Order CI). Vincent is an actor of many faces and charactors and if you have not yet seen him on T.V. or film, you must see this film.
Although it is sad, the film will leave you wanting more and more... it has heart, soul, and spirit that will take your breath away. I do hope you take a chance and experience the wonderful and fullfilling world of Novalyne Price!

Dominick Dunne at his best!
This has to be one of Mr. Dunne's best books. Having read all of his books, I think this is the best. It has many fascinating characters and true to his style, he definitely knows how to keep his readers interested. If you love Mr. Dunne, you will love this book.

Dunne at his Best
This is one of my all-time-favorite novels. The characters are so intriguing that they become immediate friends. The story is loosely based on the Alfred Bloomingdale/Vicki Morgan affair, and that makes this book even more interesting. The book is great and the made-for-tv mini-series was great. A must read.

My first Dunne book - definetly not my last!
This was my first book by Dominick Dunne, so I didn't know what to expect when I ordered it from Amazon. I was totally thrilled with my choice! Once I started reading I didn't want to stop. (The dishes waited, so did eating).

I don't consider myself a literary expert, just a go to work, come home type of person, so I don't like books that take 10 years of english classes to understand. This one hits the mark. The book was easy to follow, not so many characters that you loose track of the scene or have to back track to remember who one was.

The story is about a very wealthy man, his wife, his mistress, and a murder. Sounds common, but each chapter leaves you wanting to start the next immediately. Dunne added excitement where I thought it needed it without alot of bad language and detailed sex sceens.

This book has it all - love & romance, mystery, happiness, saddness, etc. READ IT
