A New Favorite
Not only is the text of this volume inspiring, it is beautifully designed, with Tibetan text on the left side and the English translation facing. Wisdom of Buddha is a pleasure to hold and to read.
Advanced Buddhist Material
This book provides the "definitive meaning of the Teachings". This means that it is really for advanced scholars. It would be better avoided in the case of people with strong dogmatic tendencies (even Buddhists) because wrong interpreting is easy with this difficult text...The richness and beauty of the meaning of the text requires some habit with Buddhist teachings. In intent, it is rather for scholars than poets...so don't expect verses...beauty is in the meaning, not the writing style...
The content is structured as each chapter being the question of a particular Bodhisattva and the answer from the Bhagavan. Each question being asked for allowing the Bhagavan to explain its "doctrine" and by the same way to allow Bodhisattvas to attain perfect enlightenment.
This first English translation of the Samdhinirmocana Sutra in invaluable, thanks John ! I hope there will be more...

An AMAZING collection! Great for gifts!
It's a beautiful introduction to one of the great young poets budding in New England. Having been blessed by finding other earlier (out of print) works by this poet, I had to step back in attempting to review this, his latest and most prominent work. Couple the brilliant works of poetry contained within the book with the CD found in the back insert and you have an indespensible addition to your modern poetry collection. Cutting edge poetry and an introduction to the best of spoken word make this book worth buying 2 copies. I have my keep safe one, and my 'loaner' copy to show people the kind of poetry I enjoy to read and to hear. John Powers is an excellent artist who astounds me with prose, and his energy. I'll keep my eye out for any new work of his, and I'd suggest everyone to do the same (after they read this, of course!).

Classic airpower theorist strikes gold
Sir John C. Slessor's "Air Power and Armies" is one of the most coherent and logical theories of air power in existence. Slessor wrote the book based on lectures he delivered while an instructor at the Army Staff College at Camberley from 1930 to 1934. Because he was a member of the Royal Air Force, while teaching at an Army college, he was able to address the concerns of both services through historical examples and logical theoretical application. The book details a doctrinal approach to the use of aircraft in specific combat situations when the focus of effort is on ground maneuver. Slessor wrote, "If there is one attitude more dangerous than to assume that future war will be just like the last one, it is to imagine that it will be so utterly different that we can ignore all the lessons of the last one." This rings true for Slessor's theory as well. His theory may have been written over 65 years ago and during air power's infancy, but many the ideas have stood the test of time. This book is a must read for Air Force and Army officers alike, and anyone who wants to gain an appreciation for the complexity of aircraft in tactical combat situations.

Superb discussion of the subject
If you need two books to sum up the history of the British Conservative Party, the ones to get are this one by Ramsden and E.H.H. Green's "The Crisis of Conservatism 1880-1914". Forget about Robert Blake, he's out of date and his work looks increasingly pompous and thin with the passage of time. Ramsden is very astute in his judgements, and if there is one little quibble it is with his assessment that Baldwin and Chamberlain were somehow "good eggs" while Churchill was a "bad egg". This may be true in the very narrow sense of who looked after the Conservative Party's interests when the party was in power, but surely what counts is who did most for the country and for the free world. Neither Baldwin nor Chamberlain, nor other deadbeats like Rab Butler, would have risen to the occasion in 1940. Churchill did. It matters not one jot that the Conservative Party's fortunes declined temporarily as a result.

Body Power
I thoroughly enjoyed reading "Body Power". The author doesn't bury his reader in technical terms and jargon. The subject matter is broken down and presented in a clear concise manner laced with humor. This book is a must to start your fitness program.

Great book, nice ideas, but there are some gotchas...
if you follow the plans verbatim, you are basicly screwed. Use the basic diminsions, but double check or calculate for yourself most of the cuts. The plans are not real accurate, but do propose some REAL nice stuff. I've built 3 of them tables so far, and I love them. Just be careful.

Great vocab book for SATs
My mom had this book when she was a teenager and used it to study for the SATs. So, she gave it to me to use when I was studying for them. It has a lot of excercises for the vocab words, but I didn't use them because they were already written in. This book has many good words, but I especially like it because those words aren't specifically for the SAT--they're just words you would come accross in general. Clearly studying from this book helped me, since I got an 800 verbal score when I took the test in October of my Junior year. Since then, people have been asking me to borrow it to study from. The person who has it now offered to buy the book from me because he thought it was so useful.
