I was once a fan of Rosemond
When I lived in North Carolina, I read John Rosemond's column and had great respect for what he said. Then I found my parents (we had been separated by adoption), had my own child, and began to realize that some of his advice just does not cut it. For instance, our toddler son still sleeps with us and he is one of the most independent and well-balanced children I have met.

The thing that really bothers me about John Rosemond's views, however, is his stance on adoption. He gives no value to God and nature's choice of parents, relying instead on the "legal parents" that adoption (i.e., social workers and lawyers) creates. He makes the ridiculous comment that "real parents" are the "legal" ones and that we natural parents don't count unless we raise our children. He is also against open records. As an adoptee who was separated for over 34 years from my natural family, I cannot imagine bringing a child into the world without knowing my own family history. Family cannot be erased by mere severance of "parental rights." Even Moses returned to his natural family after being raised in opulent surroundings.

Having read Rosemond's stance on adoption and his disregard for natural families, I am beginning more and more to doubt his advice on child-rearing.

Excellent book for all parents!
I believe every parent should read this book and keep it by their bedside while raising their children. Dr. Rosemond doesn't claim to know everything but his methods have been proven to work time and time again. Every suggestion I have followed with my son has worked. The parent should be in charge, not the child. You will not regret buying this book.

Old fashioned common sense!
None of that complicated psycho-babble! Very straightforward comments and ideas based on old-fashioned values and common-sense. He can be a bit on the harsh side now and then, but if you filter that out this is a book full of good thoughts and ideas. GREAT BOOK!
This book will change your life! Read it and practice the techniques it describes! The author, John Kehoe, has spent years practicing and studying Mind Powers, and he makes this clear through vivid descriptions and precise explanations. If you are looking to escape the scientific jargon that comes with many book on the mind and its potential, and if you just want to learn some simple techniques to create the opportunities and situations you desire in life, this book is for you. If you are not sure if you want to purchase this book, you can check out Kehoe's informative site: www.kehoe-mindpower.com. As long as you practice his techniques regularly and keep focus on your goals, you will see results in your life. I'm thankful that John Kehoe has created such a wonderful book!

An Essential Manifestation Primer
What would your life be like if all those annoying obstacles and problems were cleared away, and you could be and do anything you most desired? John Kehoe asserts that when we spend just five minutes a day, each and every day, concentrating on how that's a done deal and feeling our joy at our accomplishments, this will indeed be true! As Kehoe succinctly states, "Consciousness creates reality, and you create consciousness."

MIND POWER is so clear and straightforward that you can read it in a day, and then come back to review the exercises in each chapter as you work on refining your mind power skills. Kehoe's book is chock-full of creative insights into how you can see your unconscious patterns of thoughts at work, and begin to turn your life around by changing what and how you think. Kehoe explains how good health, a successful career, exciting vacations, a beautiful home and rewarding personal relationships are just a few of the things you can bring into your life by mastering MIND POWER techniques.

One of the clearest examples of how Kehoe elucidates the otherwise complex subject of how we create reality with consciousness is the way he describes prosperity consciousness. Kehoe isolates the four main prosperity beliefs, and outlines them so clearly that the reader's own path to prosperity shines like a road paved with gold! (It's an abundant universe, life is fun and rewarding, there are staggering numbers of opportunities in every aspect of my life, and it is my responsibility to be successful.)

Kehoe reminds us, "Every person is a star". After reading MIND POWER, I FEEL like a star!

The best book on mind power
From many books that I read on topic of power of thoughts, John Kehoe seems to really know what he is talking about. In a very simple manner, and straight to the point, he explains how the thoughts we create, effect our lives. That is why we need to pay attention at the thoughts that we create, and realize that if we want to change our lives, we need to change our thoughts. The author offers different practical techniques on how to change one's thoughts, from visualization, affirmations, acknowledging, dreams, concentration, believes and etc. This book is empowering, straight to the point and practial. I advise this book to those who seek changes in their lives, and tried everything. This book is worth your time and money.

Excellent book.
I did not buy this book for a month because of some of the review comments, but then did go ahead and buy the book. I disagree with the negatives - this is an excellent book for anybody who has to write VB code for Excel. And there aren't THAT many bugs in the code, and those that are there are very minor. The comment about the "help" is unwarranted - I've been living in the "help" for two months now. Of the 3 books I have on this topic, this is the best one.

An excellent guide for custom application development
The book was one of the most useful I read in learning to create Excel custom applications. It is written by some one who has actually struggled with making it really work. Other books often tell you VBA in Office has almost unlimited tools to accomplish a task and suggest VBA online help for further details, not a lot of help. The is written for Excel 95 not Excel 97 and needs an upgrade. Office 97 completely overhauled dialog boxes, toolbars, and custom menus. There are very few books that actually have the depth to help a serious designer of a VBA custom application, this is one. If you create Excel custom designs for others to use then add this book to your shelf.

The CD alone is worth more than the price of this book.
This book has saved me months of time in my struggle to write proficient VBA code in Excel. I'd recommend just looking over everything on the CD before reading the book. You will probably find the answers you've been looking for without even turning a page. The author has also included an order form to get the full version powerpak utilities for free (except for postage) and the source code can be purchased for a mere $20. I just received mine in the mail. Haven't had a chance to look at all the source code yet because I've been too busy playing Yatzhee (one of the three time wasters included with the powerpak. The tooltip utility included in the powerpak allows you to easily modify the tooltips on your custom toolbar buttons. Isn't that cool

3rd Advanced Iron Person to Review this!
Bethany Cabe, Tony Stark, and Justin Hammer! Just through in Jack Daniels and you have the greatest Iron Man story arc ever! This TPB starts off with all out action against one of my personal favs, Prince Namor. Next move to Iron Man in all out battle against Blizzard, Whiplash, and The Melter in one of fav places on earth, Atlantic City, New Jersey! And that's not all! Iron Man murders an ambassador and then goes after Justin Hammer in Monaco without his armor! All out battle ensues on Hammer's private island against a handfull of super baddies! End it all with a heart touching story about Stark finding his way of the sauce (with some help from the beautiful Bethany Cabe)! A great buy for any comic fan!

The Definitive Iron Man Storyline!!
Maybe it's because it was the very first Iron Man storyline I ever read (in its original comicbook form - issues #120-128), but in my opinion this widely-acclaimed collection is still a masterpiece after all these years! While the overall plot may have arguably been equalled in later years, notably in the Armor Wars story arc, the sparkling art combination of John Romita Jr and Bob Layton still remains unrivalled, either by any IM artist since or even by Bob Layton alone! Indeed, never have two Iron Man artists complimented each other so perfectly. David Michelinie's James Bond-style plot sees Tony Stark frequent glamorous locations such as an Atlantic City Casino and the Mediterranean while facing a shadowy nemesis in the form of Justin Hammer - a Bond-style villain! However, the alcohol-driven theme still has the power to deliver a relevant message today. My only complaint with the TPB is that I would've prefered that it included a picture of each of the covers of the individual issues at the start of each chapter. But that is only a minor flaw.

This TPB, together with the aforementioned Armor Wars saga, is the definitive Shellhead story. If you can get hold of both, then by all means do. However, if you choose to only read one, purchase this: it demonstrates clearly why Michelinie/Romita Jr/Layton were the original Iron Man dream team!

Since the actual comics are expensive.....
....this collection is well worth the price. Writer David Michelinie along w/partner/artist (and best friend) Bob Layton, and John Romita Jr. created these original tales set in the very early 80s. We are first introduced to consummate corporate baddie Justin Hammer, and Iron Man alter ego Tony Stark goes through his first bout w/alcoholism. If you can find all of these original comics (in good shape) for less than the cost of this TPB, go for it. But I wouldn't hold my breath!

Great read - don't have to be Catholic to love it
I met the author in the early 1970's. My high school book club loved his book and we invited him to visit us way out in the boondocks. He came and talked about his 2 books, Chicago, life, and writing. He was very genuine and funny. (John, thanks so much visiting us.) Looks like I have a collector's item now. He turned the book into a play (a musical as I recall) sometime in the late 70's to early 80's.

Hilarious Depiction of Growing Up in Catholic School System
This is a great (hilarious) depiction of life - growing up as a Catholic in the parochial school system. I went to school with the author at St Christina's parish in the southside (Chicago) neighborhood called Mount Greenwood. Even served mass together (as altar boys) and when you hear the old adage that goes something like "sometimes truth is stranger than fiction" - it really applies here. John does a terrific job of describing life as it really was (seen through the eyes of a young Catholic boy going through the trials & tribulations of growing up in the neighborhood/parish). He embellishes a little but "very" little and his sense of humor and wit is outstanding and keenly developed (which makes this book "a FABULOUS read"). I read this book back in the late 70's or early 80's and must have misplaced or discarded my copy. I will have to hunt down another copy at the local library or ?? as I definitely want to give it another go (re-read). Incidentally, John Powers authored a second book with a title "Do Patent Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up?" which was actually made into a broadway play and ran successfully for quite some time. Sure wish that both of these books could get re-published... I'd be willing to bet that they would sell EXTREMELY WELL - ALL OVER AGAIN!!!

Lots of fun!
Enjoyed this book immensely. It brought back many memories---the Baltimore Catechism, practicing for First Holy Communion, mission fund raising, etc. I passed it on to others I know who also went to Catholic school, and they all loved it too. For more enjoyment in the same line read Ed Stivender's 2 books "Growing Up Catholic" and "Still Catholic After All These Fears."

The first story of the second Doctor well adapted
For a long time, a number of Doctor Who stories had not been adapted to book form. Possibly the most important of these was the first story of the second Doctor (as portrayed by Patrick Troughton). Whereas 'The Tenth Planet' introduced the concept of regeneration, 'The Power of the Daleks' had to make it work.

In this adaptation, John Peel is fortunate to have a decent page count in which to portray the story. Unlike the vast majority of Doctor Who novelisations, this one has the time to examine the motives of the characters rather than just describing their actions.

The Doctor and his companions, Ben and Polly, arrive on the Earth colony of Vulcan. While Polly accepts that the man claiming to be the Doctor is indeed him, but Ben is more sceptical. Following some arguments, the Doctor exits the TARDIS and straight into the assassination of an Earth official, for whom the Doctor will be taken to be.

Explorations by the colony have uncovered a buried spaceship, and with the Doctor's assistance it is opened and inside is a Dalek...

This story is also important in the history of depiction of the Daleks. In all previous stories, they have been in control. In this story, they are vastly outnumbered by the humans and lack resources to aid them. But these are Daleks, so they find a way to bring themselves to a position to fight the humans.

The Doctor's endeavours are greatly impeded by internal politics of the colony.

If only all the Target novelisations had been given this amount of space and thought in their adaptation!

Simply the best Doctor Who novelization I've ever read.
John Peel has taken a televised story and fashioned a great Doctor Who novel. The pacing and characterizations are excellent. His Troughton Doctor IS Troughton's Doctor. His Daleks are more than just screeching robots. He captures the fear and dread that the Daleks envoke perfectly. It's the best they have been handled in years. Peel opens up the story as well including references to UNIT and Sarah Jane Smith that are much appreciated. If only THE TENTH PLANET that this book is a sequel to could have been half as well done. Fine writing. Fine book.

"I am The Doctor," He announced.
POTD is missing but we have the novel. John Peel has done well for the fans for previding us with this wonderful novel about the classic Dalek story and Patrick Troughtons' first story. The daleks are aways the bad guys and lose in the end. The Doctor is clown in this story and ben and polly are the best in this story then in others. John Peel has put in scenes that were in the script but not in the televised story. Well done , Mr. Peel.

Keep this to loan to non Pentecostals..
Excellent read from someone who was not schooled in the Pentecostal or the Charismatic scene, but was a conservative evangelical. WHile lecturing at the Fuller Institute he reserched and realised that the mission/church growth was happening around the pentecostal churches - real church growth, not just gospel presentations. And he explains why - pagans, once converted simply expect Christ to be more powerful than their old gods. He also relates how, even missionaries who do not proclaim modern day healing see God's healing hand when new converts turn and even those not converted ask for Christ to heal as it is written in the bible. God called him back to pastor with a message - Preach the word as it says, not out of experience. A very balanced account, explaining how the Evangelicals and Pentecostals are moving closer, each adressing the others objections.

Worth finding--one of the best
What I was looking for was a book I could use to teach a class on relationship evangelism. Furthermore, my ideal is a book that addresses post-modern people (especially Gen-Xers and Gen-Yers) with their common aversion to embracing any exclusive or absolute truth. How can you show, and not just tell, the good news?

In my view, such a book needs to combine both scriptural foundations and practical models. If the book hits this target, the reader will gain a few memorable approaches and build lifelong habits.

This book, unlike most on the subject, includes:
1. Discussion or review questions at the end of each chapter
2. Application exercise(s) at the end of each chapter

Net: If you want more results, this book remains in my mind one of the best ever written. It is well worth the effort spent trying to find it.

Biblical Evangelical Evangelism
Just to clarify: John Wimber nor the Vineyard adopted "Charismatic" or "Pentecostal" theology. You MUST read also Rich Nathan's "Empowered Evangelicals" along with this book (Rich is a leading Vineyard pastor). "Power Evangelism" will really give anyone open to EFFECTIVE evangelism something to chew on and will compliment any other evangelism models you may already pracice - and give you a flavor for who this "John Wimber guy really is". After graduating seminary I concluded that this is the most overall Biblical (doctrinally and in practice/philosophy of ministry) book on evangelsim. For a great learning exercise (personal or maybe in a home group or Sunday class) compare it with "Lifestyle Evangelism" by Joe Aldrich and these with "Tell It Often Tell It Well", by Mark McCloskey. (This book is currently only published in Canada as a reprint of the HarperCollins issue). Email me if you'd like to dialog or like more info!

Life Energy - Using The Meridians To Unlock The Hidden Power Of Your Emotions
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Creativity Publishing (01 March, 1992)
Author: John Diamond M.D.
Amazon base price: $12.00

Just dopey.
I'm ashamed at myself for even reading this garbage.

Acupuncture meridians and the Emotions
In this ground-breaking book, Dr. Diamond presents his research findings concerning the links between specific acupuncture meridians and various precisely delineated emotional states. The connection between the acupuncture meridians and the organs of the body has been known about for centuries, and underlies much Chinese, Japanese and Korean traditional healing, and with Dr. Diamond's work connecting the meridians and the emotions we now have a link between the emotions and the physical body. Although it has been accepted that our emotional state can affect our physical well-being, and vice versa, Dr. Diamond's pioneering research is the first to examine this mechanism in detail.

This book should be required reading for anyone practicing, or hoping to practice the healing arts, either through conventional or through complementary medicine.

The Emotions: Link Between Mind and Body
This book is a revelation! How does qi (chi) flow through the body and what impedes its flow? Dr. Diamond's research reveals that our Life Energy is basically EMOTIONAL with each acupuncture meridian representing a different aspect of our emotional make-up. Positive emotions represent a healthy flow of Life Energy while negative emotions represent an impedence of this flow. How can we transform our lives? By transmuting our emotions. This concept is so simple and its ramifications so profound that it is a wonder that noone has elucidated it with such clarity up until now. I cannot recommend this book highly enough, both for the health-conscious reader and the holistic health care practitioner!

Software code
This book is famous even when I was in college in 78. But technology changed in the area of computations. One area that this book is poor is that it does not have software code to test the algorithms. As a student or professional, you do not just compute using calculators. You need to test it with a program. It will help a student a lot if there are sample code in C to test around and checks one's calculations.

You must have it in your liberary
If you are interested in the electrical theory behind generation, transmission, power flow analysis, and small system stability analysis should get this book. We have studied it in Egypt and i found it also the textbook in most of Canadian universities...

Power System Analysis by Grainger & Stevenson
This is a thoroughly revised version of the classical Power System Analysis text by the late Professor Stevenson. The new author, Professor Grainger, has made every effort to retain the flavor and clarity of the original text material. The text covers all classical power system material starting with: basic concepts, transformers, transmission line parameters & performance, network models, power flow solutions, 3-phase faults, symmetrical components and applications, economic operation and power system stability. Two brand new and highly readable chapters on contingency analysis and state estimation add value to the usefulness of this text. A superb solution manual is available for instructors. This text is admirably suited to power system analysis courses at senior undergraduate level and graduate level.

We, at the University of Calgary, have adopted this as the text for the 4th year power system course ENEL 587.

Love the cards
The cards are well made. The exercises are ok at first, but after a few chapters later, its totally waaaaaaaaaaay confusing. The author makes it sound so easy to do the excercise. I think he's forgetting that most people who really wants to learn about Tattwas are beginners. The description and the instructions for the excercise isn't well written and a bit dry. The author seems to be really facinated with the end results of the exercise. I can just picture him saying "Hoorah!"... I stopped after Chapter 4, since he's going on a much faster pace and makes everything easy. He had been studying this for decades and expect someone without much background to jump up and shout "Yeh!well, not quite. Tattwas are quite complicated since it deals with the unseen forces and can act as a doorway to the elemental realm of the astral. I gave this 3 stars because of the card itself. If you practice Magick, then using the cards to enter the Astral Realm helps. I try not to think about the book, since its not that useful - for some of you with more talent might find it useful, as for me a beginner not quite. The cards are beautifully made and can be used with other instructions (if you can find one).

I eagerly snatched this book up
I've never heard of these cards until I read Edain McCoy's book that dealt with how to use the tattwas as gates to the world of astral travel. When I saw Dr. Mummford's book mentioned in her book I eagerly snatched up the book and card kit. Ashamed to admit it, but I'm not one to have an attention span for longer then 5 seconds but the cards did help my lucid dreaming and probably would have had more profound results if I had stuck witht the exercises. Right now I'm returning to the tattawa's because of my need to get in touch with the element of earth after badly hurting my knee. the exercises are interesting enough that I'm eager to return to them. No more am I a skim the book person. This time witht the help of the tattawa's I hope to have results bigger then lucid dreaming.

This book literally opened my third eye
Right from the beginning, this isn't a new-age book. These teachings come for an ordained member of one of the ancient swami orders of India, and one of the most prestigious ones to boot. These teachings weren't cooked up by some new-age enthusiast over the last few years, they are literally a thousand years old and are still around cause they work.
(What I'm telling you is true, not the usual hype found in these gee-whiz customer reviews.) The part of the book that had the most dramatic effect on me was the section about opening your third eye. There are probably around eight visual exercises, to be done consecutively. They aren't difficult. I would actually do them while listening to old movies every evening (you can't watch the movie because these excercises train your vision). The good doctor says to start out doing them ten minutes at a time. I eventually went to twenty minutes at a time. After a few weeks of this I came in one evening, into a dimly lit room, looked at my eight-year-old daughter and...guess what? Saw her aura. No joke. Some time after that I went to a lecture and not only saw the man's aura but the colors in it. Of course, you have to keep doing the exercises to make the change permanent. How can this be true, you're asking yourself? (skepticism is good). They work because the exercises gradually change the rods and cones inside your eyes and allow you to see an expanded spectrum of light.
Let's get one thing clear--for most of history these things have been secret. In most traditions you would have to hang around for years to learn this.
This is not the only thing in the book. There's also a very cool oracle. He teaches you how to use it and also a short tantric ritual to clear your mind before consulting it. A tantric ritual? Try getting something like this from most ordained tantrics. It can't be done. It's yours for the taking. This is very sophisticated stuff, the real deal.
There are also sophisticated exercises to develop your chakras. In fact, the whole gist of Indian Tantra is contained in this book; unlike most books on tantra which are either vague or preachy or academic and dry as dust, this one is a how-to book that he somehow makes highly entertaining. Mumford really is a treasure and this is his most accessible book. It's not only profound, it's actually fun. But what's most impressive about it is its totally, completely AUTHENTIC.
