This is my first Norman Rockwell artbook, and wow... after years of his inspiration I have to say this book gives one of the best Rockwell prints you can get out there.
The pages are printed on excellent glossy photo paper, and the images are all vibrating. Some paintings are revised in photography, so you don't get the same old yellowish rusty image from the 1970s reference.
If you simply is a Norman Rockwell fan or know someone who is a painter... I would say this book is the best there is. it contains a section of sketches - portraits, painting sketch, brainstorm ideas...etc. And the chapters are separated according to his years of career, from the early 1920s to the late 1960s...

I had hankered after a good book on Norman Rockwell for years. I think out of all the books available on the artist Norman Rockwell this has to be one of the very best. While other books have gone for quantity rather than quality, using plenty of black and white pictures to fill them out, this one has quality and colour with many of MY favourite pictures whilst also showing plenty of black and white preliminary sketches. It is wonderful. And the speedy delivery from Amazon has fulfilled a big gap in my "library".

The first time I heard about Rockwell was from a French Popular Song. Since then, I was dying to discover his world and I found this book. It was a lovely one just made for me. If I have to criticize the book, well, I would say it lacked a little bit of <> of themes presented, and hoped there were more of his works.. Anyway, I would say it was terribly interesting.

As Gary Spence puts it "Fathers are just boys with whiskers" and lest the reader fear that Spence is ignoring girls, he intends to write another book for fathers and their daughters. A Boy's Summer is a delight, guaranteed to awaken the boy lurking in every man and to inspire boys to find pleasure in timeless pursuits, loved for generations - from walking on stilts to building box traps.
I bought several copies of this one to give as "new baby" gifts - for the fathers of baby boys, because so many new baby gifts include the new mother, but not necessarily the new father. This one reveals what fun can be had in the years to come, activities which can be shared not only by boys and their fathers but perhaps a kindly uncle or big brother). From hiking to fishing, making fire the way the Indians did to rafting, you won't find a better guide to adventuring together.

What delightful change, and a pleasantly remarkable book. Gerry Spence, the great trial lawyer, who has wowed us with his brilliance in the courtrooom and his rustic biting commentary on Larry King and the Geraldo Rivera televised shows gives us a book on parenting. It is humorous filled with tips for fathers and sons to spend quality time together. This legal giant shares his own brand of fatherhood and revisits the "boy" in himself.Enjoyable reading.

A great book for fathers and sons. This is a great gift for Father's Day and should be read by Fathers and Sons on Father's Day. It is motivational as well as heart warming. My son loved the book and related well to the various chapters. I have purchased 20 copies to give to my employees with sons. It's excellent.

You're right on the streets and in the hearts of the characters in this book. You'll be hooked from the beginning. Take a peak into the world of Philadelphia that many of us are not familiar with.

Whenever I thought of Philadelphia I thought of Brotherly Love and Quakers but the aching characters in Tom Dwyer's haunting first novel Broad Street spend their lives quaking in their shoes and pursuing loves that are decidely not brotherly. Nobody wears a white hat in this novel, but the question for the guys sporting smudged greys are these: How does one preserve the tradional values worth preserving: love of family, the purity of music, and, of course, honor among thieves, when there are so many truly viscious scumbags out there trying to hurt you and your loved ones. With wistful imagery his characters "race the river" of life in, through, and around Phillie's heart of darkness, to the rhythms of the Jazz Masters, as with powerful analogies "a mean purple was already circling her eye like a storm" his prose carries you to the story's searingly sad denoument and to the bittersweet understanding all grownups, (to be grownups) reluctantly must reach: You do the best you can. And by any means necessary. Warning to Timid Readers: Though Tom Dwyer generously offers us music throughout his novel as a lifeline to holiness and a balm again the meaness all around us, make no mistake about it: Dwyer's fire is meant to burn into your soul, not warm your heart. Proceed to read. WITH CAUTION.

As a Philly native I found Broad Street by Tom Dwyer an interesting story of crime,love,jazz and forbidden desire . It has a great story line with lot's of twist and turns.It takes you from the glaring lights of Atlantic City to the back street clubs of South Philly to the Main line Estates and Country Clubs. It is a story of the everyday lives of a Uncle and his nephew bound together by thier love of music and secrets of the past.

This book is a wealth of information on running a photography studio. After reading this book you won't have many questions left. The pictures in this book are inspiring.

The Business of Portrait Photography offers excellent insight for people considering entry into this exciting line of work. I am in the beginning stages of opening my own portrait photograhy business, and found the information in Mr.McDonald's book quite helpful and well-written. It is not easy to find photographers willing to share their experience with newcomers, and this book does exactly that. If you are curious about this field, I highly recommend this book.

Extremely enlightening. This book offerd much information for me. I'm not a beginner, yet not quite a professional, a book like this is capable of filling in the space between the two. The author also utilize the expertise of fellow professional photographers, making it a well rounded book. I must repeat this is definately an Excellent book, easy to read and understand, yet it offered a professioal perspective that did not try to "write over your head" definately a creation of love!

What a source of knowledge?

A great book to learn, teach or help start a new business. It covers basic principles helpful not only if you are starting a business but if you are a stakeholder in an existing, new or forthcoming business.

If you already own or have partnership in a business this books helps you to see if there are any holes or if you missed something or find out why something is not working hte way you thought it would.

I learnt in this book about "How To" start a business that I didn't in the business school.

A GREAT GIFT.

If I could trade in every start-up book for entrepenuers I own and keep this one I would do so in a heartbeat! The author is a mentor all entrepenuers can look to for practical advice and specific information. This book works with you every step of the way providing ideas for marketing strategies, finance management, and legal start-up issues. This book also helped me to view the written business plan as a creative planning tool and not just a required document for finacial institutions. There is so much information packed into this book that entrepeneurs in all stages of business development will turn to it again and again. I only wish the margins were wider to accomodate all my notes!

This is an excellent, information-intensive book written and approached not only by an exceptional college business professor (who definitely is an authority on this subject) but a business/tax attorney with many years of experience. A "must read" for anyone considering starting and owning their own business. This is also a great book if you already have your business up and running and need some current ideas and information. Tom shows you not only how to find the information you require but also how to apply it. A road map for eliminating many problems and questions entrepreneurs are faced with. He's going to raise the business successes ratio with this new book.

I bought this book for my daughter who is 191/2 months old. She was still taking a nightime bottle. The day this book came we read it several times. The next day I asked her if she was ready to say "Bye Bye Bottle" and she said she was. We packed up the bottles as Kermit does in the book and said bye bye to each one. She has not had a bottle in almost three weeks!

For a long time "Bye Bye Diapers" was my favorite Muppet Babies story (I could recite it in at least three languages) but this book has grown on me until it threatens to overtake that tale.

"Bottle" features Kermit, who--although Ms. Piggy would no doubt argue the point--has always been the leader of the late Jim Henson's muppets. Kermit loves his bottle, and although the motivation seems a bit shallow, he has an epithany of sorts midway through the book and decides to try drinking from a glass. Realistically, it would be wise proceed slowly, perhaps moving up to a sippy cup, but of course Kermit is a dreamer and, by the end of the story, imagines that soon he will be drinking from any cup he chooses. Don't each of us have these kinds of simple, distilled dreams? When I think of my own personal quest to become a top-ranked reviewer at ..............--how impossible that seems at times, particularly since my reviews don't seem to get published--the story of the little frog who dares to dream of drinking like a grownup never fails to inspire me to charge on toward that distant horizon!

We tried for a long time to get our daughter to give up the bottle at nap time. Since she never took a pacifier or had a special toy or blanket, this was very hard for her to give up as it was her only "comfort" for nap times. She loved this book, having me read it to her again and again. We followed saying bye, bye to the bottle just like they did in the book - making an event of boxing them up and saying bye, bye. She felt very proud making the decision that she was a big girl and it made what had been a such a hard thing, much easier!

Like Carol, I am a member of the High Point University Class of 1998. Carol was one of the most kind, honest, and intelligent people I've ever met. I now attend East Carolina University School of Medicine, and seldom a day passes without a thought about Carol; she wanted the opportunity to train here, but cancer took her away before she could come. This book gave me new insight into Carol's early years, revealing much I did not know. This book, like Carol, is truly remarkable.

I read this book in one day, through a few tears, as well as laughter. This is a very, very touching book which should be read by everyone who has a child! It is very heart-wrenching to know how bad cancer hurts the whole family. I definitely give this book 5 stars!

I am a personal friend of the Hookers. I was with Carol at different times in her life. She was one of the strongest christian I have every know. This is an encouragering book for you to hold on and trust in Jesus Christ.

Here in a single volume is one of the best collections of beautiful photographs of Vermont I have as yet examined. They were taken by Vermont Life magazine's contributing photographers, with a crisp and eloquent text provided by Tom Slayton. Technically, I guess, this would be called a "coffee table book" and indeed that is where it resides in my home, except when I pore through it again (which I do each day) or when a family member or guest does so. The reproduced art (which such great photography truly is) is organized logically and appropriately according to the four seasons. Many persons who have never visited Vermont perhaps think of it in association with the poetry of Robert Frost. There are many other locales elsewhere in New England (notably in northwest Connecticut and throughout New Hampshire and Maine) could just as easily provide images which Frost's poetry evokes. For me, however, there is a texture and there are certain nuances to Vermont ("A State of Nature") which are unique. They are captured vividly in the stunning photographs provided in this volume.

Pretend that you have arrived in the state and have retained Slayton as your tour guide. "Take us to your favorite places. Help us to understand why you are so fond of each place. In other words, introduce us to Vermont at its best." In essence, that is what this volume does. The initial impact is so great, so enjoyable, that you will wish to return again and again. A magnificent volume such as this enables you to do so. Those who share my passion for Vermont are urged to subscribe to Vermont Life magazine. Also, to purchase Richard W. Brown's The Soul of Vermont.

As a frequent tourist to the Green Mountain State, I found this book to be a fantastic collection of all the reasons I continue to come back year after year. Gorgeous, stunning photography of the four best reasons to visit Vermont - summer, winter, spring and fall. Not to be overlooked, though, is the captivating and conversational prose by Vermont Life Editor, Tom Slayton. He effortlessly puts into words the many feelings the state's beauty evokes. A fantastic book to add to any collection of New England or photography books.

Black Cottage is one of those books that grabs the reader from the very first and then doesn't let up til the end. I found myself holding my breath, sitting on the edge of my seat, and desperately reading into the late night. It's theme of biochemical exploitation for terrorism is especially timely, too. I would get this for any adult on your Christmas list, but it would also capture the imagination of a young adult (7th grade and up) and stimulate his interest to read.

The Black Cottage kept my interest from the beginning page until the final sentence. Even though I am not familiar with medical terms it was easily understood. I found myself not wanting to put the book down. I am a John Grisham fan and this book rates up there with many of his novels. Five stars go to the Black Cottage.

Mr. Dudley did an outstanding job with this medical mystery. I couldn't put it down once I started reading it. I can't wait for the movie!!

Don't get me wronng I think this book ois great in fact I'm using it now for a report on the robotic engineering involved in Battlebots. But unless you're looking to find out all of the little insides and outs of the bots I wouldn't recomend this one. This book is written in a textbook style meaning that its great if you're actually building or doing research but it's not great for a fun read.

This is one of the best how-to books I've seen. The authors are true experts in the subject, and it shows in their selection of material. I wish the engineers at Toshiba who designed my notebook computer had read the chapter on batteries. You get theory, practice, materials engineering, mechanics and robotics all presented in one neat package. This is one of those rare books that's perfect for the beginner as well as the expert. It's jammed full of information that would take hundreds of hours to gather from other sources, and most importantly, it's a painless way to shorten the learning curve to become a robot expert yourself.

This book takes out much of the guess work in building a combat robot. For example, do you know what happens to a robot battery when you try to drain it in 6 minutes? Other areas are construction, weapons, etc. The brief coverage of the autonmous features can be a great help for building a robot that has automatic features. This is not a detailed plan set, but a collection of information needed to build the robots, many good suggestions.
