I recently adopted an ex-racehorse with a bow. I bought this book in an effort to understand what a bow is, and how best to treat one. I found this book to be very easy to understand. Explains mechanics of the horse's leg, and how easily a bow can happen when a horse is over-stressed and tired. Treatment is explained, but assumes the bow is fresh. Would like to have gotten more information on treating a bow when you have no background on the initial treatment the horse got when injured. Book does stress time off (up to a year) for the horse. A "must have" book for any horse owner. It opened my eyes to this very avoidable injury.

All horse owners need this valuable book before this often career ending injury occurs. Clearly and easily explaines all aspects of a bowed tendon. I do wish it had more info on how to manage an old bow that may not have had the proper care and rest that was needed (I have a retired racer that suffered a bow several years ago). I would have never purchased him before reading this book due to all of the myths surrounding bowed tendons. This book cleared up all of the old myths and showed me that there is much more life for a horse after a bowed tendon.

When my mare recently was diagnosed with a bowed tendon, I didn't really know what that meant. I bought this book in hopes of enlightenment, which it provided in abounds. It answered all the questions I had but didn't think to ask the vet during the inital panic that set in when he first told me that my mare's limping was due to a bow. Now I know the most common causes of bows as well as the best (and only) way to treat them -- rest and time off for the horse. I also have confidence that I'm doing the right thing for my mare, and have answers for people who ask why I'm not riding her for a year, why I'm not bandaging the leg, etc. The book also had lengthy descriptions of the alternate treatments that people have used (ranging from the simply ineffective to the downright barbaric) to try to speed recovery from bows. It's a pretty well-written book, too, and an easy read. This book was a godsend. I wish Tom Ivers would come out with more books about other problems I have with my horse's health!

We just did a production of The Boys Next Door at my school, and it is the best play I've ever worked on. I'm a techie and was Assistant Director for our production. I'm so glad I got a chance to work on this production. It is so amazing and touching. I cry every time Norman and Sheila have their dance scene where they waltz and at Lucien's "State Sneck" scene. I would recommend this play to EVERYONE.

Hey Erin! I once read a review of this play that said it was unrealistic, unfunny, and mean. I can address two of the three. Unrealistic, I just don't know about. Unfunny, is NOT true. Ever since people have seen the play at my school, we've been going around repeating the "paper-eating" sequence. As for mean, this is not true as well. We are laughing at their escapades, not at the people, themselves. The play is about Norman, Arnold, Barry, and Lucien, who are mentally challenged. They live together in a halfway house/apartment, and are "chaperoned" by Jack, a social worker who is quickly becoming burned out by this responsiblity load. As the play progresses, we see how precious life really is, and you just want to cry for who these loveable characters might have been. 5 stars. Ü

I've seen the play performed, and I've read the script. Mr. Griffin does a beautiful job at showing how to enjoy life. If it deals with keys or green library cards. We can't take anything for granted and if we do all that's left for us is to move to Russia. I was very impressed with the show itself. Many people could find it offensive, but those are the people who need to open their hearts and see the beauty of the story line. The characters are so loveable and they can move you to tears because they have no trees.

The overwhelming majority of business books that I have read over the past decade provide no new thinking. Books on how to lead, how to manage, how to sell, provide very little practical advice and even less new thinking.

This book provides new thinking. It is not a copycat title. Any industry can and should adopt the model. Thanks for delivering something fresh...

A must read for entrepreneurs, small business, mid-size and large alike...not to mention wherever marketing is taught. Mr. Osenton really knows his stuff. A fun, first rate read, and a destined best seller! Buy it!!

Oliveri is, quite simply, one of the most talented authors to spring forth from this much heralded "new wave" of horror. This is grim, brutal, and emotionally wrenching stuff. Highly recommend it!

Just wanted to let everyone know that Mike Oliveri's DEADLIEST OF THE SPECIES won the 2001 Bram Stoker award in the First Novel category. Check out the book, it's a great read from a rising talent.

Deadliest of the Species was a pleasant surprise, a first novel that did not read like a first novel. Deadliest is not your typical male vs. female novel. It dug deeper, to deal with faith and belief, without being preachy or boring.

I found that Deadliest of the Species kept up a good pace throughout the novel and it was difficult to put it down without wanting to pick it right back up and see what happened next. I've been a fan of Oliveri's short stories for quite a while now, and it was nice to see that his novel did not disappoint. I'm looking forward to more like this in the future!

The authors explain the JWS, administration server and admin tool in very clear terms. The second part of the book does an excellent job in discussiing JSP, Servlets, and other advanced topics. Very practical.

The book provides many useful examples of core technology issues in building a JWS powered web site. Its treatment of the upcomming jsp standard (in JWS 2.0??) is helpful, but points to the fact that compiled pages (jhtml) may be short lived.

This book is without peer. It is succinct and yet covers the JWS in depth and detail. The writing style is fluid and the organization is excellent. Alas, now that this superb book is available, Sun has announced it is pulling the plug on JWS!

This is a warm and loving tribute to the late Diana, Princess of Wales. All facets of Diana's life are covered from the time she first blinked into the camera as teenager through her funeral services on September 6, 1997.

The photographer for this book has photographed the Royal Family for twenty-five years and has traveled in over a hundred countries throughout the world with them. The text was written by Tom Corby who has been associated with the Royal Family for about fifteen years. I possess a couple of his books.

These two - Granham and Corby - have assembled a beautiful book which is filled with beautiful and outstanding pictures. All of the pictures are in color. Corby wrote the text to acompany the pictures. This is a great book which any collector of books on the Royal Family should have in his collection. Also, it is great for one who like to read about and look at gorgeous pictures of the late, Diana, Princess of Wales.

This is a hardcover boook which contains 96 pages and measure 91/2x12 inches

I had the pleasure of looking through all the Diana photo books in Amazon's warehouse in Seattle. Since they do have the best selection, I am confident that this and the O'mara Diana book offer the finest quality photos of any available. Many of the others contain photos with poor lighting or low resolution.

I am sure Diana,Prncess of Wales did what she did because it came from her heart. Being a doctor I am hesitant to touch people with aids or leprosy or homeless people. She bridged the impossible and was Christ-like to the least of our brethren. I was in London during the funeral when we started the St Therese Centennial Pilgrimage with 40 co-American pilgrims mostly priests or nuns or holy men and women. We were touched by her life and this book said all the things I wanted to express and much more. My life will never be the same and I will be be a better doctor and individual in my service to my patients and family because of DIANA,Princess of Wales. God bless her and her sons. This book helped my daughter get ready to say "bye bye" to her
pacifier. She still likes to read the book even now that the pacifier is gone.

I bought my daughter this book two weeks ago. She is two months shy of 3 years old. She has always been tremendously comforted by her binky. We have been limiting her binky use to naps and bedtime and extreme distress for quite a while now, but have been anxious for her to get rid of it. After a week of reading this book, she turned to me and said, "I'm not ready, Mommy." I told her she'd be ready one day. One week later, yesterday morning, she woke up saying, "Mommy, I'm ready to say Bye Bye Binky!" I am convinced it's because of this book. I asked her what she wanted to do with the binky and she said "Throw it in the trash." And that she did. She was aware that Baby Miss Piggy doesn't throw hers in the trash, but we kind of glossed over that part. My daughter appreciated that the first time Nanny suggests that Baby Piggy is too old for the pacifier, she said she still wanted it and did get it back. I think it helps, too, that the book has a part where Baby Piggy says she feels kind of silly because her friends don't use a pacifier anymore. I know my daughter gave up her binky on her own two months ago at preschool for that very reason. At first I thought this book would be too babyish for my daughter, but it clearly wasn't.

Santa sent this book to my son when he was three and still using his pacifier. When I read this cute book to my son that Santa sent, he imediatly threw away his pacie and never said anything about it again. I believe he made this decission because the book came from Santa. Thanks Santa, for a wonderful book that helped solve a little problem.

This is a neat coffee table book for hockey fans. Because it's compiled under the supervision of the NHL, it isn't going to reveal anything that Gary Bettman doesn't want you to know. I did find some interesting content in it, though. It's loaded with some great photos and short essays on the daily doings of the NHL as they happened on March 23, 1996. What I mainly liked about it was that it didn't just stick with a few teams, but almost all of them appear in one part, or another. It also talks about travel, workouts, pre-game prep (including what equipment crew are doing when ESPN and Fox Sports Net aren't around), ice rink conversion, press, fans, games, coaches, the dressing room, hotels, broadcasters, Gretzky, Keenan, St. Michael's, kids, arena crews, and trainers. It doesn't give the whole picture on everything, but it's an adequate scratch at the surface.

I have been trying to find this book for sale for about a year without any luck.Maybe this note will bring this book to my possession.I am just your average Joe looking for a book that has my picture in it next to the Stanley Cup.I would love to purchase this book if anybody has it.

I find this book to be really interesting. What makes it the most interesting is that the person on the front cover of this book is me. I found this out by just happening to be in a book store and looking at hockey books. I looked under the Tampa Bay Lightning and their was my picture with my name by it. I really made me mad. No one told me they were going to put my picture in a book or my name. I don't even have a book for myself. I wish they still made them so I could have one. I feel they should have sent me a book or at least told me I was on the cover and my name was inside the book. Don't you think.

Highly recommended for anyone looking to get beyond the tired, short-sighted rhetoric of those in the environmental movement avoiding the debate of economics and the current rich/poor gap in the world. An insightful critique of the environmental movement, focusing on right-wing environmentalists, politicians, ngo's, and population obsessors. Also included is an even more detailed critique of the new global order firmly established after the cold war and the challenges it presents a quickly destabalizing world. A much needed read for environmental activists, anti-corporate globalization activists, human rights advocates, and especially those opposed to their actions as the book is an intelligent, well-sighted, in-depth critique of the new economic world order.

Divided Planet accomplishes what hundreds of other books about environmental politics don't: it digs into the big questions of the complicated web of relationships between economy and ecology, and so gets to the heart of most of the troubles facing the planet. Athanasiou writes clearly and coherently about various approaches to environmental problems, and he measures them against a wide view of the world's resources which has more in common with Oxfam than the Sierra Club.

The book offers a cogent analysis of our troubles and an almost unique vision of where we need to go from here, but also serves as a reliable history of the environmental movement and various environmental philosophies, from moderate pragmatism to Deep Ecology. Athanasiou is honest and fair about the strengths and limits of past approaches, while at the same time offering his own radical point of view. (And I don't mean radical as a demeaning term -- one of the benefits of this book is that Athanasiou recognizes the need for big, systemic changes.)

Unlike many books on similar subjects, this is not a manifesto of doom and gloom or two hundred pages of blame, blame, blame. Yes, Athanasiou admits the situation doesn't look good, but he's interested in figuring out what to do, not in sitting around and whining. Divided Planet offers an excellent and humane critique, but it also offers some paths forward. We could all stand to listen to the critique, and take a step onto one of the paths.

Divided Planet is the product of a veteran environmental advocate. Tom Athanasiou presents a sober analysis of current environmental realities in this well-written and thoughtful book. As our environment deteriorates, the author documents and analyzes the dialogue between those who plunder natural resources and those who are working to protect our planet. Importantly, the root cause of environmental destruction -- the divide between rich and poor -- is mostly overlooked, the author writes. Mr. Athanasiou's book explains why overcoming North/South economic disparity may be a daunting task, yet he also provides inspiration for those individuals who may ultimately work for environmental justice on a global scale. Highly recommended.

I'm not a big fan of detective series because they tend to become robotic in plot and characterization, but the Ross MacDonald/Lew Archer series is an exception. Crisp language, tight plots, and geat dialog make for a gripping story.

A sad sidenote. Don't rent/watch the insipid Paul Newman/Joanne Woodward movie 'loosely' based on the book. Instead of LA they set it in New Orleans and they basically rearranged all the characters into pale versions of their literary counterparts. Just thought I'd let you know.

A Ross MacDonald is like an extremely well crafted 1950's black & white noir movie. Nothing comes through in it's true color, everything is projected in shades of gray, the action is stately yet never drags, and the characters are all vaguely threatening.

All of MacDonald's novels exhibit certain basic themes--tormented families, buried secrets that fester through multiple generations, environmental destruction, and the brutal contrast between rich and poor. The key to MacDonald's long running success was Archers realism and authenticity, MacDonald's ability to craft complex yet understandable stories, his mastery of language, and his ability to generate a specific atmosphere of threatening suspense on a consistent basis.

All of the above referenced themes are present in The Drowning Pool, which I think is MacDonald's best novel, though The Underground Man is right up there as well.

MacDonald's novels aren't just mind candy-reading him is a literary experience. I believe that is why he was successful in a sort of restrained way. Escapists will not get into these books-they are too cerebral. If you want to your books affect you, MacDonald and Archer are your kind of guy's.

Ross Macdonald describes America the way it really is, mindblowing, desperate, full of paranoia!! His descriptions of faded starlets and worn-out harlots wandering around Hollywood, talking tough and acting mean, he describes the slums, the shady characters out to make a buck, the cops with trigger fingers and intolerant faces, it is all there. I have reccomended his books to friends in Europe, they don't seem to see it the same way I do. I bet it's still a damn good read for most people.
