A Refreshing Point of View
This book is so in line with my own philosophy regarding herbalism! Very interesting, appealing to both experienced and newcomers alike. I've decided to use this book as the main text for the herbal course that I teach. It was hard not to rush through it in one night, and I, too, had to force myself to savor every page :)

Complete Guide to Practicing Community Herbalism
The Village Herbalist is a long overdue love letter to all of us who serve our communities as herbalists.
Covering every aspect of herbal practice, from setting up a business, practical tips, information on making preparations, to questions of ethical practices and some of the internal/political struggles concerning the herbal community, this book will give those interested in herbalism as a livlihood a good sense of what to expect.
My favorite aspect of "The Village Herbalist" is the many profiles of practicing herbalists scattered throughout the book, along with quotes from other herbalists concerning their opinions on the various topics covered.
My initial reaction was to sit down and devour this attractive and well illustrated book, but my instincts told me to read slowly and savor it instead.

A Must Read!
"I just speed-read The Village Herbalist! I couldn't put it down. It's so wonderful. I wish I could make everyone I know read it so that they could understand why I want to follow the path of the herbalist! It's all in there."

George MacDonald's best!
I have read other books by George MacDonald, some of which were translted by Micheal Philips, and this one is by far the best, though they are all great! Micheal Philips translates George MacDonald best out of the translaters that I have come across. George is the best author I've ever came across.

This book is the exact same book (same editor, even same forward) as 'The Maiden's Bequest'.

Friendship and Love Know No Boundaries
Angels Watching Over Me, is a story of two young friends Katie, a white girl and Mayme, a colored slave girl. Set in Shenandoah, sometime after the Civil War the two teens living just miles of each other meet after a tragic event. When the Civil War comes to an end Gangs of outlaw Confederate deserters sweep across the land in a murderous path through the South leaving both the girls orphaned. I found this to be a very heartwarming, God-touching story of love and friendship amidst all the pain and sorrow. These two girls from two different worlds miraclously survive their ordeal in a world turned upside down.

Together both of the girls do whatever they can to stay safe as they hide out in the plantation once owned by Katie's family. In this story of survival, both of them grow in a new truth and faith in God. It is God who speaks to Mayme and she talks to him and listen to what He tells her to do. The two vow to keep things that have happened secret and manage things with God's help. When the girls come of age, they live together with Katie taking over the plantation. Through all the strengths and skills they reconstruct their lives by the mercy and grace of God. It was an amazing story of triumphant over bad circumstances. It encouraged me that no matter if you left alone in a dark world you can make it with the help of an Almighty and loving God. So you can grow and make a life for yourself. No matter the odds, you can stand against anything when you got God on your side.

Exciting, I didn't want to put it down!
I thought this book was really good because it has a lot of good messages. I love to read books about different times in history and this has been my favorite one so far. The other thing I like about this book is that it says some really cool stuff about God. I thought it was really nice to read about the attitude that Katie (Miss Katie) had with Mayme. Because back in those days white people weren't very nice to people with dark skin. I'm very surprised how strong Mayme was about the whole situation. Both of them had to grow up really fast and I can't wait to read the second book! So in conclusion I loved this book!

Crimes of Passion (Hot Blood Series.)

Erotic horror so good it's criminal!
Hot Blood: Stranger By Night is Gelb and Garrett's 9th book in the Hot Blood series, but it is by no means stale, or stories you've read before. Where most of the other Hot Blood books sample a variety of erotic horror, this volume leans more towards crime mixed with sex and violence, and probably served as a model for the current Flesh and Blood series.

This volume sports stories from such noted authors as Brian Lumley (Necros), Mike W. Barr (A Real Woman), Jeff Gelb (Tricks or Treat), and Ramsey Campbell (The Limits of Fantasy).

So if you feel like an demonic roller coaster ride into the nights and lows of human depravity, if you want a sexual charge on the way, then get in line to ride the Hot Blood: Crimes of Passion express.

I couldn't wait for this one!
I have read all of the books in this series. However, I was "dying" to read this one, specifically because of Greg Kihn's and Brian Lumley's stories. Kihn mixes horror, erotica and the Summer of Love in the Haight perfectly for his freaky concoction. Brian Lumley did not disappoint either. I can always see what he has written, and he never fails to give me the chills. Of the others: the longer stories will entice you along with a lump in your throat and the shorter ones will surprise you with their twisted endings. A must read for fans of the series (no arm twisting here), and a good one for "beginners". Enjoy.

Exciting storyline plus Christian growth!
This book was a little bit more exciting than the first, My Father's World. The detail in this book is not overlooked by the authors. The characters show strong Christian values and at the same time show weaknesses, as we all have. It makes the characters seem very real and almost concrete. I recommend this book highly! The authors keep the book going, drawing you into it more and more. It was hard to put down! Enjoy!

A wonderful story about a young girl's spiritual growth.
Michael Phillips and Judith Pella have worked together well to tell the believable story of a girl and her spiritual growth. This book, which immediately follows MY FATHER'S WORLD is one of a series chronicling the life of Corrie Belle Hollister. The inner thoughts and feelings of this young woman are sensitively expressed. One can easily become absorbed in the adventurous tales involving Corrie and her siblings. I would highly recommend this book as a realistic representation of how, with careful guidance and love, a young person can be lead to a close and mature relationship with God. It truly touched and inspired me.

Good read
It took me quite awhile to get through this book only because it was very thought provoking. I would read a small section and then sit and reflect on it. Even though I disagreed on a few issues, it was worth the read to reflect on another opinion and solidify my own. I feel I drew closer to God. Having read the poems introducing the chapters, I now want to read other MacDonald poems. I also liked the connections at the end of each chapter to MacDonald's fiction.

POSSIBLE ALTERNATE TITLE - "DISCOVERING THE PRESENCE OF GOD"
HAVE YOU EVER LISTENED TO SOMEONE PRAY AND ACTUALLY "FELT" AS IF GOD WAS STANDING RIGHT THERE LISTENING?

THAT'S THE WAY I FEEL WHEN I READ THIS BOOK - IT'S ALMOST AS IF GOD IS TURNING THE PAGES.

THIS IS NOT LIGHT READING, NOR IS IT FILLED WITH CLICHES. FOR THE READER WHO WANTS IN-DEPTH REALITY ON THE PERSON OF GOD INTERSPERSED WITH SOME OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL POETRY IMAGINABLE, THIS IS ON MY ALL-TIME FAVORITE LIST. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR!

Dittos
I am in complete agreement with the Portland reviewer. This book SHOULD NOT be out of print!

I served as a pastor for 4 years and recommended this book to everyone who I disclipled. It's required reading on my personal "Christianity 101" course.

A word of caution: This is no fluffy devotional. Like climbing a mountain where there are many who set out for the journey, but don't make it to the top, this book is life-impacting enough to scare many away from finishing. I know some who have been hit so hard by it, they put it down saying, "I want intimacy with God, but I'm not sure I want that much." Don't do it. Climb to the summit. The view is astounding.

If you love
C.S. Lewis and George MacDonald, then you will enjoy this book. Written in the tradition of the 2 authors above, this book is a beautifully written allegory about how God views us and how He would like us to view Him and of the intimate relationship He wants with all of us. This book totally turned my spiritual journey upside down! Phillips presents God as a loving Father in a way that anyone can relate to. A far cry from what has been presented from pulpits for many years. Every Christian and those who are searching for an intimate relationship with God, should read this book. This book should not be out of print!

Grayfox

An excellent life-enriching story.
Grayfox is a story of Zack Hollister's journey as he grew from being a boy into a man.
It covers his problems at home where he thinks that everyone regards him as a young boy not important to his family, and how he joins the new Pony Express to try to escape from his troubles. As he goes along, he begins to see things about himself and everyone around him through new eyes with the help of Hawk Trumbull, a God-fearing man that lived in the desert. During this time he constantly had close encounters, both unpleasant and pleasant, with the Paiute Indians, and finally came to a realisation that everyone was not against him.
I think this book is well worth reading as it tackles subjects relevant to everyone in a way that makes us think. Similarities are constantly apparent between Zack's problems and real problems we might have in our own lives, and helps us find a way to conquer these problems without directly striking against us which would make many people close their ears.
The story is very exciting with a lot of sudden plot twists that compel us to keep reading on, not wanting to put the book down. Each chapter in the book is very short so it dosen't seem like it's taking a long time to finish the book. This book can be read just as a story very well, or one can go deeper and study the underlying messages existing the whole way through the story.
The characters of the book are extremely life-like and it is easy to picture each one of them and relate them to people we know in life. The story is believable and seems like it could be an actual journal of somebody's life, which makes it easy for us to follow and relate to.
The book teaches us how to look at things carefully and deeply, and not to just take it at face- value. It also teaches us to learn from everything that we observe and try to find it's meaning, as everything has a reason for being there. If the thing we are observing is a problem, we are able to overcome it by studying it in this way.
A lesson we learn from this book is that the hardest thing to do for most people is to swallow one's pride and admit that they were wrong. Many people can act tough, and many people believe that those people are 'men' but few of them have the courage to apologise or say that they were wrong.
The book shows us how important fatherhood is to a person, both in the actual relationship between the father and the son, as well as being a picture, no-matter how imperfect, of how God cares for us as our Heavenly Father.
I think that this is a superb book and would recommend it to anyone having problems with their family life, new Christians for general reading to help them get a better picture of God, as well as to anyone who is just looking for a good book to read.

This book tops my list of favorite books!
Grayfox is a most fantastic book. Once I had started on it, I could hardly put it down. I read past midnight and did not want to sleep. Although it is kind of meant more for boys, I enjoyed it thoroughly. The book is not only interesting, but didactic too. Michael Phillips showed Zack Hollister's feelings as a rebellious kid very well. He had also illustrated Drummond's fatherly love very well. Hawk was a good teacher. The Indians and Indian tales that M.P. brought in enhanced the entire plot. The reconciliation at the last was a fitting end. I give this book full ratings. It is sound and promotes moral values, unlike many modern books with explicit details on sexuality and violence. Grayfox is none like this

Excellent!
This book was outstanding...I couldn't put it down...literatly. I had to keep reading and I loved every word of it! Corrie discovers God in a much more personal way and it gives an in-depth look and brings much more meaning to the Civil War. Abraham Lincoln was made more personal, and Corrie related to him in a way I've never heard spoken. An above excellent book...a must-read!

Corrie grows into a more mature adult and daughter of God!
In this sixth book of the series, Corrie finds herself in Washington, D.C. to help with the reelection of Abraham Lincoln! This is a more action-packed book with detailed descriptions among this series (the others hold their own though!) Corrie continues to sort out God's plan for her right in the middle of the Civil War! She meets up with a foe from an earlier novel and trouble is sure to come of it! Follow Corrie to the east coast and find out what she is meant to do in her life! Truly remarkable!

Historically educational while exiting! Interest keeper!
This series is excellent for teen years and up! (Some younger readers also may enjoy, depending on their reading ability.) Interest on the level of women starting to make their mark in the world as a journalist. Great reading. I thoroughly enjoyed this series and have passed it on to many friends to read. I truly believe you will enjoy this series!
