A lovely, lyrical portrait of a rich, fulfilled life.
This book has been on my nightstand for over a year. Every evening, I read just a morsel of Colette's beautiful prose and savor it slowly, like a decadent piece of chocolate. Since this is an "un-biography" (because it was taken from her life's works and letters to personal friends), it doesn't have that pompous, omnipotent, movie-of-the-week quality of many celebrity biographies. And yet it paints a joyous, colorful, honest, lustful and mysterious life (was she or wasn't she bisexual?) lived very simply. I'm constantly amazed at how Colette can talk about something as elemental as her cats or her garden in such a tender, sensual way.
This is a rewarding treat for those who already adore Colette's work. And for those who are unfamiliar with her, it's a simple and elegant introduction! If you've only read Gigi, or The Vagabond, you'll find the woman who wrote them even more intriguing than her stories.

From Hegel to Marx-
Sidney Hook analyzes the two philosophers utilizing opposition among Hegelian and Marxist theory: ethical idealism, dialectics, and continuity. This allows the reader to adopt the differences between the two influential authors, thereby introducing major theories written by Marx and Hegel. The remaining chapters interject comparisons between Karl Marx and esteemed German philosophers who studied Hegel, contributed or correlated with Marxist philosophy. Overall, the text forms an essential basis to the understanding and development of Marxist philosophy, and the struggles of a young-Hegelian in the nineteenth century.

An excellent workbook and training primer
How To Draw Spectacular Reptiles by Earl R. Phelps is an elementary instruction book for creating realistic sketches of everything from sea snakes, panther chameleons, and rhinocerous iguanas, to Komodo Dragons, Snakeneck Turtles, and the American Alligator. Each reptile species comes with a paragraph of basic information about its habitat and ecology, a sample drawing, and creatively offered unfinished drawings that reduce the reptile's basic form to its simplest shapes and lets budding artists extrapolate from there. Detailed instructions for basic drawing skills are not included in How To Draw Spectacular Reptiles, which presumes the artist's familiarity with basic techniques and guidelines. An excellent workbook and training primer for budding artists of beginning to intermediate skill. Also highly recommended from Phelps Publishing are How To Draw Multicultural Supercharacters (1887627049, [money]); and How To Draw Supercharacters And Supermonsters (1887627030, [money]).

"Mark Twain meets the X-files" a great description!
It was great being a part of creating this wonderful, entertaining book, along with such famous writers as Max & Barb Collins, Dave Collins, Karl Largent, and all the others. I especially enjoyed reading it for the first time, as I had only read the first 2 chapters when I wrote my chapter! Bj Elsner did a great job of threading everything throughout the book-I think you'll like it too! ENJOY!

Learning Ned Rorem - Lesson One
I came about Rorem 'round about-ly -through videos of interviews and liner note snippets - and was greatly intrigued by his blatantly keen mind. While learning the music, I put the 'word' into it all and it plunged me even deeper. Between his impish candor and spotless observation one experiences a fine chunk of a true artistic pursuit. Also, his reflections on the two worlds of Paris and New York and the creative flora and fauna therein are priceless.

Senior Author's Comparison of 1st and 2nd Editions
This work represents an expanded management approach, occurring over three years, for special education students with multiple disabilities. As senior author of both 1st edition (1987) and 2nd edition (1990), I noted dramatic improvements in technology; however, surgical (orthopaedic) procedures were reported as unchanged. While the underlying philosophy of this book remains valid, technical aspects now may be regarded as a "walk through history." Beverly A. Fraser, PhD
