Fifty Years a Hunter and Trapper
Published in Paperback by Fur Fish Game (1991)
Author: Eldred Nathaniel Woodcock
Amazon base price: $5.95
Used price: $4.50
Average review score:

EXCELLENT book from a bygone era
Born in the 1800's, Mr. Woodcock relates his experiences from 50 years in the "tall timber". Ahead of his time, he expounds on the wisdom of closed seasons and game management. If you enjoy hunting; if you daydream of life in the mountains; this is a MUST read! In his folksy 'down home' way, he tells story after story of the rugged life in the mountains of Pennsylvania, as well as hunts in the west and south. If your son (or daughter) is new to hunting, GET THEM THIS BOOK! READ IT YOURSELF! Oh, to have been born in that long ago, forgotten era! Being from Pennsylvania myself, this has long been one of my favorite outdoor books, as I am sure it will be for you.

Excellent -- A Must Read.
The Scarlet Letter is super. It is well written and tells a touching tale of Puritan hypocrisy. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is a masterpiece of American Literature. The Red Badge of Courage is Fine, and Billy Budd is the story of an innocent sailor prosecuted for a false charge of mutany.

Love that voice!
Just to expose my bias, let me just say that Gerain Wyn Davies could read a cookbook or the instruction manual to a refrigerator and I would buy it just to listen to his voice! This is an audio book filled with classic horror stories vocalized by a man trained in classic theatre. What more can you ask for? The stories come to life and Mr. Wyn Davies manages to make the stories suspenseful and haunting. I have only purchased 2 audio books and they were both Wyn Davies short story collections. If you like classic horror (Poe, etc.) and you love a beautiful voice, this is the audio book for you!

A thoughtful, college-level work examining privacy issues
Written by the late Edward J. Bloustein (1925-1989), the former president of Rutgers University and a noteworthy legal scholar, Individual & Group Privacy is an informed and informative collection of four in-depth essays on the legal definition of privacy, and the author's thoughts about balancing individual needs against the increasing pressure of the "right to know" line of reasoning that is so prevalent in the modern era. A thoughtful, college-level work examining privacy issues from humanitarian, practical, and ethical perspectives, Individual & Group Privacy cogently addresses key and fundamental privacy issues and First Amendment concerns that are as current as today's newspaper headlines and the rise of the new "Homeland Security" measures arising from America's war on domestic and national terrorism.

Kentucky Frontiersmen: The Adventures of Henry Ware, Hunter and Border Fighter
Published in Hardcover by Voyageur Pub (1989)
Authors: Joseph A. Altsheler, Nathaniel Kenton, and Todd Doney
Amazon base price: $16.95
Used price: $11.49

Altsheler: Great American Author
Altsheler can paint a picture with words like no other author can. He is so descriptive with his words that you feel that you are right there in the midst of the story with the same feelings and senses as the protagonist, Henry Ware.

The Kentucky Frontiersmen is a newer version of the same book as the "The Young Trailers" that Altsheler wrote in the late 1800"s except a more modern version. The difference being that a lot of the slang is taken out and replaced with more modern words, there are illustrations and I believe that the print is larger.

I first read books from the "Young Trailer Series" back in the 50's when I was in grade school and they had a great influence on my life. I recently ordered some of the books from the Altsheler series from Amazon.com and enjoyed them again immensely. The theme represented throughout the series was the constant struggle to be the best and to be ready and prepared to prove it at anytime or it could cost an early Kentucky settler his life was a lesson that I took with me into competitive situations like sports, academics and the business world.

The "Kentucky Frontiersmen" teaches values that are so important especially to growing children that deal with responsibility, hard work, integrity, intelligence and the special type of people that built this country.

Every resident of Kentucky should read these books because historically they give an accurate view of what Kentucky was like back in the early days of settlement. What a special place Kentucky must have been and I'm sure, still is.

La Biblia en Cuadros para Niños, a must have book for kids
When I was little girl, one of the first books that I started reading was this book. This book includes stories from the Old and New Testament and it is explained using simple sentences and beautiful illustrations. At the end of each story it has questions so the child could test him or herself reading comprehension. I lost this book. Now that I have a child of my own one of the first things that I did was to get this book. My child is still too young to understand it but I am reading a story every night knowing that one day she will start reading it on her own like aI did. This is a book that every Spanish speaking child should have in their bookhelf.

Learning Self-Therapy Through Writing: An Experience in Creative Journaling
Published in Paperback by Universal Publishers (01 March, 2001)
Author: Nathaniel Gadsden
Amazon base price: $19.95

Charting the waters to self-empowerment
Baby books or journals map the first few years of an infant's life. There's the imprint of the tiny foot, which will soon walk, and occasionally a miniature hand print, which will soon try to tear down the house. These books allow plenty of white space for parents to graph the child's progress with the first words, date of first baptism, and pictures of the first birthday party. As the years float by, this journal serves as a reminder of the child's youth, but it also navigates a course towards maturity. But, where do we travel next?

"Learning Self-Therapy Through Writing"is a journaling book to navigate a course towards self-empowerment. It plots a map for the reader on a journey from the Someday Isle to the shores of attaining goals. "As you plan your getaway from Someday I'll (or Isle), you will encounter four bridges. These are the Bridges of I AM - I CAN - I WANT TO - I'LL DO IT TODAY!" The exercises allow plenty of white space to paddle through the waters of insecurity, and self-defeating thinking with an open mind and a willingness to learn. Affirmations act as buoys, and flushing sessions act as lighthouses so you won't get grounded.

Dr. Nathaniel Gadsden organizes the material for smooth sailing. I liked the sheets for Weekly Goals, and Weekly Contracts with Myself, because these help you stay afloat even after you are far from the Someday Isle. He writes, not as a captain, but as a guide, who encourages you to create your own horizon. I recommend "Learning Self-Therapy Through Writing" for anyone who wants to chart the waters of maturity to self-empowerment.
