A delightful book for kids of all ages! Each page of this book has delightful, light, charming prose. The illustrations by Maurice Sendak put the final touches on a lovely, well-bound volume of reading for a family to share or a child to escape to a cozy window-seat and read. I recommend this book for someone who wants to give a nice, lasting gift to a special child or friend.

An extraordinary and unusual art book
The Impact Of Chaim Soutine is an extraordinary and unusual art book tracing how the works of Chaim Soutine (1893-1943) affected the artistic sensibilities of avant garde artists de Kooning, Pollock, Dubuffet, and Bacon. Filled cover to cover with full-color reproductions of bold painting, each image is paired with comments directly attributed to Soutine and the great artists he affected. Enhanced with artist and studio photographs, a chronology and biography, and a roster of Soutine Paintings in the Galerie Gmurzynska Exhibition, The Impact Of Chaim Soutine is a truly stunning and informative look at the influence and legacy of a notable man's abstract art and a welcome addition to personal and academic Art History collections.

A Derrida Must-Read!!!
The first part of the book is a short story by Blanchot and the seond part is Derrida's analysis. Derrida's critique is amazing stuff. He performs a close-reading, line by line. Derrida is one of the greatest thinkers, if not the most thought provoking theorist/critic, of our time.

Jazz Guitar

An Encyclopedic Dictionary of Jazz Guitarists (1900-1997)
This is a straight forward listing of all major and not-so-major jazz guitarists mainly from the U.S. and Europe. There is a biography, and a select discography and publications on every player. The book opens with a well-researched introduction on the evolution of jazz guitar, and closes with a section on the guitar as a jazz instrument--from Gibson to Benedetto. If you love jazz guitar, and need a handbook--this is it. Pictures are all in black and white. How I wish Summerfield included color pictures if they are available save for those artists from the early to mid 1900s. This 1998 publication is the 4th edition, and jazz guitar is still evolving with revolutionary players like Tuck Andress and Charlie Hunter paving the way. Maurice Summerfield has provided us a good survey of this art form.

The Jeffersonian Tradition in American Democracy.

A true Account of the Jeffersonian Tradition
Charles Wiltse's the Jeffersonian Tradition in American Democracy is a very good account of the intellectual background and philosophy of Thomas Jefferson. Wiltse starts out with the intellectual background for Enlightenment thought in Great Britian and France. It is shown how the philosophy of republicanism and libertarian thought progressed from the mid 17th century to the time of Jefferson.

Next Jefferson's intellectual background is explored. Locke, Bacon, Newton, Sidney, and Lord Kames are shown to be the main influences on our greatest founder. It then moves to Jefferson's progressive philosophy of liberty and republican thought. Public education, religious freedom, the abolition of slavery, ending primogenture and entail, and a republican constitution consume the mind of Jefferson.

Wiltse also goes into Jefferson's philosophy for "ward republics",a form of grass roots democracy. He details Jefferson's passion for ward republics to be the "salvation of the republic" as he called it. The main thing that makes this work so good id that it lacks the anti-intellectual postmodern "deconstruction" of Jefferson. No political correctness or extreme "presentism" viewpoint. A really good book for a Jeffersonian education.

Beautifully Written
I've been reading the general linear model section all day today, and it is just so nicely written I thought I needed to write a review. I can't imagine a clearer and more succinct description of this difficult topic. Entirely understandable, but be prepared to read chapters from beginning to end as unexpected abbreviations are often introduced and carried throughout the chapter.

As with all of the Kendall Advanced Theory books, a moderate degree of mathematical sophistication is assumed.
